A lesson from last night's World Series game

The Indians and the Cubs made the World Series, an improbable match as each team is about as familiar with World Series play as I am with Mandarin Chinese. But there they are, and for the Indians, a catcher who batted .183 this season is behind the plate.

That was not the plan. The Indians had traded for all-star Jonathan Lucroy in mid-season.

Indians: Best value in baseball

The Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Blue Jays behind the American League Championship series on Friday to determine who represents the AL in the World Series. It's a good match-up between teams that are in the bottom half when it comes to payroll.

Hillary's hilarious excuses

The "30 by 30" documentary, "Believeland," documented 50 years of Cleveland not winning a championship in any sport -- a record for futility.

In the show, ESPN asked former Cleveland Indians manager Mike Hargrove how long it took him to get over losing the 1997 World Series in extra innings in Game 7 after being two outs away from winning it all.

I'll let you know when I do, he replied.

Trump to go positive

Mike Cernovich, who has broken many stories at "Danger and Play," noticed a change in the cover and in the title for Donald Trump's running-for-president book.

Boo-hoo-hoo, Cubs fans

The last the Cubs were in the National League championship series, Punky Brewster went to a game. Cubs fans are fatalistic about the team's chances, and whine about not winning the World Series since 1908.

Big deal.

Rush Limbaugh's message

Fiction writer Sarah Hoyt's tribute to Rush Limbaugh presented a brief and plausible problem that Rush Limbaugh may have faced in 1987.

Trump stands up for America. AP calls it racist

I see where the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Indians may drop their names in favor of some other group to honor. Polls have shown Indians don't care.

"They don’t have anybody who can win the general"

Two weeks ago, I assessed the Democrat presidential candidates by citing an Old Gold cigarettes slogan, "Not a cough in a carload." There is not a president in a carload of Democrat candidates.

Democrats have begun admitting it.

What WSJ won't say about impeachment

Gerald F. Seib, executive Washington editor of the Wall Street Journal, wasted 1,587 words on an analysis of the impeachment. I say wasted because he did not use the one word that best described this effort.

Highlights of the News

July is Patriot Month. The greatest play in baseball history was when Chicago Cubs outfielder Rick Monday saved the flag from being torched at Dodger Stadium on April 25, 1976.

Now MLB brags that its players are too weak to stand for the national anthem. Why play it then? I stopped caring if the Cleveland Indians or Whatevers win the world series.

Do we want another Fox News?

Better yet, do we need another Fox News? That is my reaction to talk that Shari Redstone, vice chairman of CBS and Viacom, will launch another cable news network.

Even Trump cannot save the media

Thanks to our electing Donald John Trump as president, this had been a golden age of news. Despite this, many in the media are losing money, laying people off and even closing shop.

Democrats need to root for Cleveland teams

Robert Reich may be a mental midget but he is the only former labor secretary I can name. That is darned good self-promotion. His latest piece is in the Guardian, "It's Mueller time but don't forget: Trump has undermined the very idea of America."

Undermined the very idea of America? Seriously? What in the devil does that mean?

A detached view of Trump

Reading a review of "Donald J. Trump: A President Like No Other" by Conrad Black, I was struck that the reviewer wasn't particularly interested in the 2016 presidential election. Then I realized not everyone is politics 24/7. This gave Short's insights on President Trump a credibility sorely lacking among the experts.

Mike Cernovich fixes Trump's media problems

I see where Kimberly Guilfoyle openly lobbied for Sean Spicer's job. President Trump did not hire her. Good move. Never trust a reporter even if she is at Fox News.

President Trump already has all the advice he needs for free from the rebel Mike Cernovich.

Bill Gates made no one poor

The British elitists at Oxfam looked down their nose to sneer at the New Money, declaring that eight people own as much as the poorest half of the world.

So what?

Political expert eats crow

Charlie Cook, described by the Hill as a "respected election handicapper," declared the presidential race over -- OVER -- on October 13.

Now he is eating those words. Fast.
