Supreme Court is over the target

Conservatives do not trust the Supreme Court and for good reason. From Roe to Johnson (the flag burning case) to Obergefell (gay marriage), the court has been the king of the leftist wing of the Democrat Party. It does not help that many of these justices were appointed by Republican presidents. However, Democrat Senates forced compromise. For every Clarence Thomas confirmed, there had to be a David Souter.

That changed thanks to Donald John Trump and six years of Obama refusing to work with Republicans. When Republicans took the Senate, they refused to confirm any judge or justice appointed by Obama.

This helped give Trump three Supreme Court nominees. They will and have disappointed us, but the fact is they are rolling back the most egregious errors by the Supreme Court in the past 50 years.

Reversing Roe -- ending that fake right to abort -- was just the start. Liberals, who for decades worshiped at the altar of the court as it altered the Constitution, now fear the interpretation of the Constitution as written and not as massaged and messaged by the mediocre mice in the media.

Now the liberals complain that the Supreme Court has the last word.

The Atlantic ran a piece by Glenn Fine, "The Supreme Court Needs Real Oversight."

For 233 years, we needed no oversight. With Roe gone with the wind, liberals suddenly say we do. Abortion is that important to them. That is very telling -- and scary.

Glenn Fine points out that public trust in the Court has fallen. That's a good thing. The public should not trust the government. Trusting the government got us FISA, which later allowed Obama to use the FBI to spy on Donald Trump, who dared question the authenticity of a birth certificate that Obama still has not produced. I know he was born in Hawaii. I just love that this still bugs him.

When I think about the government, I am reminded of the title character in the police detective spoof Sledge Hammer! He used to say, "Trust me. I know what I'm doing" just before doing something foolish. One time he said that and then nuked the city of San Francisco.

Given the covid follies, I will pass on trusting the government. I mean, it cannot even run a water plant. Look at Flint, Michigan. Look at Jackson, Mississippi.

Fine wrote, "Oversight of the judiciary is a difficult issue, involving separation-of-powers concerns. I was the inspector general of the Department of Justice for 11 years and the acting inspector general of the Department of Defense for four years; I saw the importance and challenges of oversight in two of the most important government agencies. I also experienced the difficulties in conducting complex investigations of alleged misconduct, including leak investigations. But as I wrote in a Brookings Institution article this past May after the Dobbs leak, the Supreme Court does not have the internal capacity to effectively investigate such leaks, and it would benefit from a skilled internal investigator, like an inspector general, to help oversee the Court and the judiciary."

Wait a second.

This guy was the inspector general of the Department of Justice from 2000 to 2011? Who did he send to jail? Has he ever spoken against the FBI's spying on Donald Trump? Did he call out the Mueller Witch Hunt?

Of course not. And he left as chairman of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee in 2020 after Trump fired him as an inspector general.

What Fine proposes is tying the court down by the inspector general bureaucracy which was OK with the FBI spying on a presidential nominee but clutches its pearls over Ginni Thomas being a conservative.

I don't trust the Supreme Court but I trust far less the warrens of bureaucrats underneath the government.

The Supreme Court has liberals scared because it no longer advances the socialist agenda. Instead five justices and occasionally Chief Justice John Roberts are upholding the Constitution at a time when it is under siege by the enemy within: the federal government itself. That's worth defending even if you don't quite trust them.

  2. DS: Good call-out. This fool Fine should go back to watering his African Violets. Unless he wants to speak about the horrible acts of the recent Department of Justice (the unconstitutional Dem power wagers).

    1. He talked at length of the positions he held but not one word of any accomplishments in those positions likely because he just collected a big paycheck and sat in a huge office doing nothing. i worked for a huge utility for several years and one day was at the headquarters and nioticed suits coming in with the WSJ under their arm like Al Bundy going to the toilet.

  3. Not sure we should give much credit to Democrats for compromise. The confirmation hearing for Souter was a cakewalk compared to Thomas. Just ask Biden.

George W. Bush is the one who gave us FISA and most of the other Big Brother crap we have today. A big problem we have is too many Republicans in Congress of his ilk and not enough conservatives.

One reason we never learned who leaked the Dobb's decision from the Supreme Court is because John Roberts (a George W. Bush nominee) didn't want the culprit known.

  4. This is a reminder that Trump did the unthinkable. He appointed 3 justices to the Supreme Court and ALL 3 voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. Not even Reagan could do that, giving us only 1 conservative justice (Scalia) and 2 liberal justices (O'Connor and Kennedy).

To this day I am still stunned that Trump pulled that off. He deserves the second term that was stolen from him. Anyone who challenges him in the primaries will never have my vote in any election, including 2024.

    1. “Anyone who challenges him [Trump] in the primaries will never have my vote in any election.” I guess it’s a good thing you didn’t pull that crap in 1968. If you had said “Anyone who challenges him [Nixon] in the primaries will never have my vote in any election,” you would have voted against Ronald Reagan for president in 1980.

Reagan challenged Nixon in the 1968 primary, which means he “never” would have gotten your vote “in any election.” Cut off your nose much?

    6. The election of 1960 was stolen. Vote fraud in Daley's Chicago did the trick.

  6. Now that the Democrats can no longer count on the Supreme Court to implement the Dem's liberal agenda, election fraud has soared due to the Dem's realization that they must control the other two branches of government. When the Dems controlled the court Congress was a nice to have (mainly for Supreme Court appointments) but not really a requirement for passing liberal legislation.

  8. Reversing Roe v Wade was done under deep state orders. It was the cattleprod necessary to maximize leftist votes this year. So they did it.

Do you think that the court that punted for 50 years picked this year to reverse because of principles?

The same court that wouldn't touch election theft?

    Dream on.

  11. You can always tell a Marxist groomer. They believe a man can be pregnant. They can't define what a woman is. They believe a six year old should be able to determine their sex and undergo multination, yet that the same child can't buy a firearm. They lecture us on the evils of smoking but flog drugs. They talk about equality and practice rank descrimination.

Lefties are crazy. And if you say so a masked group of fifty will beat up your 80 year old grandmother and kill her dog.
