Scientists claimed the algae bloom in the San Francisco Bay, which killed over 10k fish, was due to climate change. But it's now clear that it is due to the failure of local governments to upgrade the region's antiquated sewage treatment plants. https://t.co/Ov1RklIjPN

San Fran stinks to high heaven. A brown algae has taken over the bay, killing fish and making life miserable in the Port-a-John City.
Three years ago, Donald Trump tried to save the city.
The city blew him off.
Now the San Fran Chronicle has reported, "After an unprecedented harmful algae bloom first turned San Francisco Bay a murky brown color and then littered its shores with dead fish, many people assumed it was yet another climate disaster to add to the list, along with extreme drought, wildfires and heat waves.
"While scientists suspect climate change played a role in triggering the bloom, what fueled it is not a mystery. Algae blooms need food to grow, and this one had plenty: nutrients originating in wastewater that the region’s 37 sewage plants pump into the bay.
"In other words — we wouldn’t have this problem without the poop and pee of the Bay Area’s 8 million residents."
I know what readers are thinking. They let people poop and pee in the streets. It flushes down the storm sewers into the bay untreated.
The feds spent a small fortune separating the storm and sewage systems on Dodd Street in Poca, which has 30 homes.
But San Fran's problem is more than that although going Third World downtown certainly does not help.
As I said, three years ago, President Trump tried to do something about San Fran's poo pollution.
On October 3, 2019, AP reported, "The Trump administration ratcheted up its feud with California on Wednesday as the Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice accusing San Francisco of violating the federal Clean Water Act.
"Last month, President Donald Trump warned of a potential violation notice, saying the city was allowing needles and human waste to go through storm drains to the Pacific Ocean — an allegation fervently denied by city officials."
AP also said, "the EPA had identified violations in the city and county wastewater treatment and sewer system, including lack of proper operation and maintenance that has allowed raw and partially-treated sewage to flow onto beaches into the ocean and sometimes into streets and homes.
"The letter alleged that some discharges contained heavy metals and bacteria and said the city hasn’t kept up proper cleaning, inspection and repair schedules for the system nor properly reported or issued public warnings for sewage diversions."
While the media and Democrat spin was this was solely about poop on the streets, the EPA made it clear that the water treatment plants were a problem.
Democrats reacted with bitterness.
On May 19, 2020, the San Fran Chronicle reported, "Trump EPA’s targeting of San Francisco pollution may bring investigation."
The occasionally sober Nancy Pelosi and the occasionally coherent Kamala Harris (then a senator) were among the Democrats demanding to impeach Trump for daring to say San Fran had a sewer problem.
Now we see that once again Trump was right and his critics were wrong.
Let them live in the stinking mess they made.

I saw that and ROFLMAO.
DeleteAlright NB, if you were ROFLMAO, who helped you up? What were the damages? Will you be able to post tomorrow? Did your "Life Alert" work? These are questions a Dick would ask....
DeleteWe are concerned. As Pete would say, "it's nothing butt love"...
DeleteNB, I lmao too, but am sitting on the livingroom sofa. Thank goodnes I had my water sitting on the end table.
DeleteThis story is hilarious. I wonder if any of these idiots think back to PDJT's warnings.... naahh
It was a beautiful city at one time. This was a classy city with pride and grit. It had all the reasons why you want to travel. Until the evil democrat libs moved in. I saw pain and a mess coming from the 80's
DeleteThe brown stained water is an algae bloom you say? Raw sewage will stain the water brown too.
ReplyDeleteNew rule Bob: If it looks like poo, smells like poo and stains like poo it's raw sewage leaking out somewhere.
Once again they're changing the language.
From now on I'm telling the wife there's an algae bloom in the toilet after I'm done in there.
DeleteIs San Fran now classified as a shithole ? How come all shitholes are run by lefties ?🤔🤣
DeleteIt's those darned united crystal methodists.
ReplyDeleteNever bet against Trump. He is always right. (So far.) Yes, let them live in the stinking mess they made. Lefties ruin everything they touch. California: A paradise turned into a hellscape by liberals.
ReplyDeleteLet them live in it? Once they foul their nests they hit the highway and come foul ours. I wish we could build a wall to contain them.
DeleteNo so far about it, Jeffery, and we won't let them foul ours.
DeleteThey can enjoy the perfume smell they created while sitting in the NON air conditioned homes/offices they happily asked for, by voting to keep Newsome in office. No sympathy whatsoever.
Delete"Democrats reacted with bitterness"
ReplyDeleteImagine, someone tells you that your water may be contaminated with human waste and drug needles and you react with ... bitterness. Not against the people who allowed the human waste and drug needles in your water! Nooo, against the person who tried to warn and help you.
This is where I lose it with Democrat voters. Everywhere Dems are in total control, violence is rampant, homelessness is rampant, drug use is rampant and health and safety concerns are rampant. How the hell can you see what Democrat policies do and continue to vote for these people?!? I just can't deal with anyone who votes Democrat anymore. I consider them so unintelligent they are beneath slugs in my estimation. They really do deserve every horrible thing that they voted for. Keep wallowing in your own excrement you subhuman scum.
Gotta say that you make some excellent points!
Deleteunfortunately, the rest of us get caught in their mess (FJB). what I have trouble with is the pretzels they turn into when saying 'but Trump...' I have a couple die hard democrat friends. They concede the point I am making then go 'but trump...' or on totally different tangent so they dont lose the argument. I quit beating my head against the wall. I thought when they started paying real taxes they would see some light. I was wrong.
DeleteSee Ibsen's "Enemy of the People."
DeleteI really think with the Dems totally, and I mean TOTALLY, in charge in Cali that there is no resistance to any foul election procedures. C'mon, Maxine? Swallowwell? Piglosi? They are never close to getting defeated. The fraud will never be questioned, because it can't!!! Until machines and leftist get booted, (fat chance), it will be business as usual....
DeleteYou are naming federal offices. Just look at the crazies and perverts in our State legislature. They are too busy declaring 12-year-olds responsible for deciding to chemically castrate themselves without parental approval OR notification. Meanwhile, they cannot get a tattoo. These are seriously disturbed people, many of whom have no kids and incapable of sustained, healthy or loving relationships.
DeleteThey should release all of them barefoot in the most desolate part of Death Valley . Then we'll see whose capable of being reformed ( probably none ) .
DeleteBarefoot in Death Valley??? I'm thinking a tad bit more harsh. How bout a 15' Organ Pipe Cactus shoved dead square up their...Dick isn't a fan of those people.
DeleteScientists first thought it was due to Global Warming? When do they not think that?
ReplyDeleteWhen do they think? They only imagine it.
DeleteIt is either Global Warming or Trump maybe both .
DeleteNot the Dems. 2DC
When the grant money stops.
DeleteI know a little about wastewater systems, having been a Village Administrator for 18 years. SF is par for the course. Small and medium size cities have to toe EPA's line when it comes to discharge limits. We completely separated our storm and sanitary systems in the 1980's. Cities like SF still have combined systems in violation of EPA standards. There are two reasons. SF employs dozens of lawyers to keep EPA tied up in court. Then there is, especially in CA, the political component. The Democrat state legislators tell CA's version of EPA to leave the big cities alone, and they either tie USEPA up in court or buy them off.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't this bad when it was part of Mexico.
ReplyDeleteYep, with all of 900 people living there.
DeleteHPB
Remember when Trump called some third world countries shitholes? This is what he meant. It has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with indoor plumbing. If your government cannot provide safe water and proper sewage systems then you live in a shithole. California is a shithole. Jackson, Mississippi is a shithole. Flint, Michigan is a shithole. The thing most shitholes have in common is Leftist leadership.
ReplyDeleteYes to that.
DeleteSan Fransicko. Living up to its name.
ReplyDeleteSan Franshithole?

It's a two-fer:
ReplyDelete"When the lights go out in the city, and the Sun shines on the Ba-ay"
"I don't want to be there, in my city, oh, oh-oh, no no no!"
You can bet cronies' skimming, salaries and pensions eat up all of the budget.
ReplyDeleteIf you've ever been on the embarcadero in San Francisco it's always smells of sewer. It's because the old brick sewer pipes from the 1800s are cracking and the city refuses to spend the money to fix them. So sewer has long been spilling out into the bay all along the embarcadero for years. this is by the ferry building near where poor Kate steinle got murdered by an illegal alien, which Trump mentioned when he was campaigning for the 2016 election.

It's amazing to continually learn how impotent and ineffective Trump was. He talked a big game and it felt nice to see someone punch back in the culture war. But, wow, he didn't deliver on so many promises and failed at so many things like this. Meanwhile, Ole Bido plugs along, making progress everywhere he turns.
ReplyDeleteHah! Define progress. Herd's a starting point: Remember when Braindead said just a few weeks before the event, that if Russia went into Ukraine in a limited way, it would be okay? Remember that? I'll bet you don't. Well... if'n that warn't a humongous green light, nothing could be. So how many thousands have been kilt as a result of Demented Joe playing stooge to Russia's ambition?
DeleteDid you understand that Biden was severely dementiac before you voted for him?
Chickenshit troll posts as anonymous, imagine that ! I still have a hard time understanding that level of stupidity. I think it's more evil than anything else .
DeleteApparently you don’t drive a car or have to buy gas or oil. Does fentanyl sound familiar to you?
DeleteTypical trump qtard cultists. Avoided my actual point: Trump was impotent and ineffective. Instead you jump on a misinterpretation of my comment about Bido and try to label me a lefty.
DeleteSo, for the special short bus jackasses that still support trump in 2022, here's the clarification for your simpleton "lock her up" brains: meanwhile biden steamroller thru all republican opposition to successfully implement his communisitic, America hating, constitution ignoring, freedom destroying plan for global elitism.
Any feedback now geniuses? Or should we talk about finally, really really building the wall in 2024 after we give MO money to trumps campaign?
Oh, give me a bloom that portends imminent doom
ReplyDeleteAnd the stink that causes to wretch
Let us feed it from streets that are now toilet sheets
And display anything humans can ketch
And let us step in the goo that gets under shoe
So we can bring disease it into our lives
What was once a fine City is now totally shitty
But they don't care as long as Left thrives
Everything going on in CA is a man made and created disaster. From the fires, the water, the bay, the lack of electricity production, and on and on and on... California is a 24/7 man made disaster, all of which could have been avoided.
ReplyDeleteI swim in the bay several times per week as a member of the Dolphin Club at Aquatic park. About 2 weeks ago, when the news about a red tide started, I could smell the crappy water while driving over the east side base of the Bay Bridge. It was terrible. I figured then it was a sewage discharge. Not some magical Algae bloom or climate issue. Smells like shit. It's shit.
ReplyDeleteCheborneck.
The current problem of the red tide algal bloom is a result of the periodic presence of that algal species combined with the suitable conditions it needs to flourish, namely, (sun)light, water, and CO2 for photosynthesis, O2 at night for respiration, and the nutrients nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (N-P-K) for cellular reproduction and growth. Control, ie reduce, any of these components and there will be no catastrophic “bloom”. From an environmental engineering standpoint, it is a routine recommendation to reduce “point sources” of N and P from both municipal and industrial sources. We use “nitrification-denitrification” for Nitrogen removal, while Phosphorus can be removed either biologically by growing phosphorus accumulating bacteria (PAOs), chemically by adding lime, or physically using sand or membrane filtration. Not cheap, but neither is the current forms of treatment. Please note that N and P must typically be removed from wastewater from municipalities discharging into lakes, where natural dilution by mere volume is insufficient to render conditions acceptable. To take a classic example, Milwaukee, WI discharges wastewater into Lake Michigan, and therefor must meet more stringent requirements under the 1972 Federal Clean Water Act. The N and P removed from Milwaukee’s wastewater is contained in a concentrated mixture similar to wet mud called “sludge”, which is then composted and yes, marketed nationwide in garden centers as a fertilizer/compost soil amendment product. It puzzles me that a region considered to be sophisticated as the San Francisco Bay Area is unaware of such routine and long established municipal wastewater treatment practices; it is even more disappointing to read the comments from so many persons naive to this fact who carelessly, perhaps even recklessly, would like to attribute this all to so-called “climate change,” whatever that is supposed to actually mean. Might as well just say it was because of the “bogeyman.”
ReplyDeleteHaving been in the sewer business in the Bay Area, the last thing most Districts want is a tight system. They simply don't have the capacity to treat the effluent and rely on exfiltration (leaks) to lessen the load on treatment plants.
