Bret Baier: "The President Obama documents were handled properly" pic.twitter.com/RSSEdg8DpS
— Justin Baragona (@justinbaragona) August 12, 2022
For the past quarter-century, the mainstream press has treated Fox News as a red-haired stepchild. The media ignorantly mocks a channel that not only beats all its cable news competitors but all the cable outlets.
But they also use Fox to validate their talking points whenever a Fox host repeats their lies.
Shep Smith was long praised as a rare real journalist at Fox because he said the same things that are not true that the rest of the media say.
Of course, when he left Fox he was of no use to them. He had to settle for a downtime slot at CNBC. He really isn't that good.
With Shep and Chris Wallace gone, the media was having trouble, what a sad, sad story. They needed a new Fox host to restore their former glory. Where, oh where was he? Where could that man be?
Well now it's showtime for Bret Baier and the media. Winter for The Donald and France.
Newsweek reported, "Fox News anchor Bret Baier refuted suggestions promoted by Donald Trump and a fellow Fox News personality that former President Barack Obama had mishandled 33 million documents, including classified materials."
Refuted?
Someone needs to look that word up.
The story said, "Baier on Friday rejected the comparison during a Fox News segment, saying that while Obama had relocated the documents, that action had followed the legal process. In Trump's case, the legal process does not appear to have been followed, although the former president and his attorneys contend he declassified the materials before leaving the White House."
Hmm.
Baier said, "There is a process. President Obama, according to NARA and that statement and everything we know, followed the processes to get those documents to Chicago. There was, you know, a lot of grumbling that they hadn't been posted online as promised but how they were handled was done by that process."
That's not much of a rebuttal. Definitely it is not a refutation.
Elsewhere in Newsweek, Mike Davis showed Baier is talking out of the orifice he sits on. Davis is a former chief counsel for nominations to then-Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley. He said no process is needed.
Davis wrote, "All presidents take mementos and other records when they leave office. They don't pack their own boxes. The National Archives takes the position that almost everything is a 'presidential record.' And the federal government, in general, over-classifies almost everything.
"Even if Trump took classified records, that isn't a crime. The president has the inherent constitutional power to declassify any record he wants, in any manner he wants, regardless of any otherwise-pertinent statute or regulation that applies to everyone else. The president does not need to obtain Congress' or a bureaucrat's permission—or jump through their regulatory or statutory hoops—to declassify anything. The Supreme Court reaffirmed this in the 1988 case, Department of the Navy v. Egan: 'The President, after all, is the 'Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States.' U.S. Const., Art. II, § 2. His authority to classify and control access to information bearing on national security...flows primarily from this constitutional investment of power in the President, and exists quite apart from any explicit congressional grant.'
"Thus, if Trump left the White House with classified records, then those records are necessarily declassified by his very actions. He doesn't need to label that decision for, or report that decision to, any bureaucrat who works for him. It is pretextual legal nonsense for the Biden Justice Department to pretend Trump broke any criminal statute. Indeed, it is noteworthy that Attorney General Garland apparently did not seek an opinion from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC)—the de facto general counsel for the executive branch—before ordering this home raid of his boss's chief political enemy. Perhaps Garland knew OLC wouldn't give him the answer he wanted."
In short, nothing at Mar-a-Lago was classified information because as president, Trump had the power to de-classify anything he sent to Mar-a-Lago.
Thus the hunt for classified documents was bogus.
I saw that on Day One in Poca, West Virginia. Surely someone much better looking, better educated and better groomed like Bret Baier saw it in Washington.
But he's the new Chris Wallace and he must at every opportunity say the walls are closing in on Trump.
That way Bret Baier will maintain his status as the one Real Journalist at Fox.
Donald Trump called out Fox News and their hypocrisy as being a conservative news network. True. I miss One America News. (DirecTV).
ReplyDeleteBrett Baier is a RINO and certainly not a Trump supporter. He is not fair or balanced, at times, and he is afraid of being decisive against the MSM. Fox is well on its way to CNN lite. Only Tucker and Gutfeld are left and I am not sure how long they will last. Hannity, a so-called close confidant of Trump, will do as he is told. I've written off Laura, who now wants Trump-like policies without Trump. Ignoring Trump and promoting DeSantis will backfire, bigly. Wait and see.
ReplyDeletehey brett has to keep his employment options open if Fox ever gives him the boot.
DeleteHow can anyone forget the terrible coverage election night 2020 when this same crew kept pushing "Arizona called for Biden", hrs before the freaking polls actually closed? While REFUSING to even mention on air that trump had won ohio and florida?
DeleteThe overall bias of these so called elitists make you want to upchuck, while they think they are being professional. Problem is, they are talking to EACH OTHER, on air. Trying to shine for other tv talking heads, to impress them instead of being fair or balanced. A pox on them all!!
I remember that horrid election night of Fox News coverage. Canceled Directv when I realized the landslide re-election of Trump had been stolen without a real recount or inspection of countless legitimate fraud cases, so there was no point in watching Fox News ever again. Most of the “journalists” seek after affirmation from “elitist” journalist circles rather than reporting the truth. They all can get stuffed.
DeleteEN2 SS says:
ReplyDeletebetter looking, Debatable
better educated, I wouldn't bet on that, more indoctrinated, for sure
better groomed, So? You can groom a weasel, but it is still a weasel and will never be a mink.
Yep, you have that right. And no matter how much makeup you use a pig is still a pig. Im stealing your weasel mink analogy though, its better.

Whatever else he is or isn't, Baier isn't smarter than our host.

Brett Baier has always been a Never Trump tool. Don’t forget it was he who provided a platform for Never Trumpers Jonah Goldberg, Stephen Hayes, & the other witless blonde - who’s name I can’t recall; she was SO memorable - long past their sell-by date.
ReplyDeleteBoarwild
It was Brett Baier, Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Eph Hayes that drove me to cut the cord in the fall of 2016.
DeleteI totally understand why. That's quite the RINO trio.
DeleteBaier is the designated Lib now.
ReplyDeleteI lost respect for Brett Baier when he and Gary Sinese cancelled their appearances at the Catholic Legatus Conference. They caved to the gay mafia’s bullying over Catholic doctrine against homosexual “marriage”. I’m sure by now he’s disposed of his rad-trad rosary.
ReplyDeleteCourageous Conservatives say, "B-b-b-but we have to abandon this guy who sacrificed everything for us and embrace the newest shiny thing the Establishment is holding in front of us!"
ReplyDeleteIts a real mystery how conservatives keep electing people like McConnell and Mittens and Murkowski instead of supporting true patriots who fight for them.
They don't call the Republican Party the stupid party for nothing.
DeleteSad but true. I kinda hate playing this role cause I do like what DeSantis has done in Florida but we can't let people be fooled again and drop our best warrior for no reason. Maybe DeSantis will be great, I don't know. But I do know the MAGA King will come with both barrels blasting. We need that man now.
DeleteYes. I am now sadly waiting for Trump to be arrested. That looks like the next move.
DeleteLuAnn - I don't think you need to worry about that. This is deflection to keep Trump's persona in the 22 election so as to drive dem turnout. Of course, as we have seen it has done the exact opposite. No one ever said the deep state was smart - they just had power against you. DeSantis has shown the power a state has against that. FJB will not even try and mess with Florida anymore. Every time he has tried it has gone poorly for him.
DeleteThe DOJ might have been trying to drive Democrats to the polls in Nov, but they lit the GOPers on fire. Unintended consequence, though the DOJ should have expected it. I am just hoping we get some better Senators and Reps in Congress, ones who can fight back.
DeleteHope you are right, Black JEM.
DeleteMaybe they will have driven Alaskans to totally reject Murkowski and the rigged voting system they instituted this year. Today is a yuuuuuge day.
DeleteIt's a shame Bret Baier has wussed out. I really liked his books on Ike and Reagan.
ReplyDelete-LG
Makes me wonder just how honest he was in those books.
DeleteThis is unrelated to the blog post: https://amgreatness.com/2022/08/15/its-inevitable-trump-will-be-indicted/ .
ReplyDeleteIt's a sobering assessment; Julie Kelly is a serious person.
Yes she is. But I do not feel that is the end game. And with this botched raid, anything they took wouldn't be admissible anyway, even if a friendly DC court approved, it would never stand upon appeal. And by failing to try and totally take out the king - the king would come back for heads - real heads with real punishment, including Obama, the most corrupt president in history. Though FJB is winning on the money side it would appear.
DeleteOld saying goes something like: if you aim to take out the king, you better aim well.
DeleteThis came out of weekNews? Evan Thomas' old rag? The one that declared We Are All Socialists Now?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the world coming to?
Bret Baier is a pudgy, self-important Mouthpiece for the Tweedle-Dum Wing of the Teedle-Dee/Tweedle-Dum Industrial Complex and Occupation Government that Eisenhower warned us about.
ReplyDeleteJust another Election Thieving Windbag in a town filled with little else.
Reading Mark Wauck over at MIH has an even better theory that the seizure of records was to find out what Trump has for evidence against the deep staters for his upcoming lawsuits.
ReplyDeletehttps://meaninginhistory.substack.com/p/i-think-jen-dyer-agrees-with-me-too
Don't forget that RINO Paul Ryan, former speaker of the house while repubs controlled it, is on the fox board now. The same ryan that stopped trump from getting much done while in the majority.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that.
DeleteAnother snake.
DeleteBret Baier needs to move on to another network, like CNN, and take Hannity with him.
ReplyDeleteI gave up on Baier long ago, too.
Delete"Perhaps Garland knew OLC wouldn't give him the answer he wanted."
ReplyDeleteOne of the most important life-lessons I learned while serving in the US Army was: Don't ask the question unless you're SURE you want to hear the answer.
Brit Hume was supposedly Brett’s mentor initially but he obviously wasn’t a good student. He also idolized Charles Krauthammer. Though not a Trumper either, Charles was insightful and honest in his critiques while Brett is merely self-important. Haven’t watched him since the election.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like they’re bribing him with lots of food!! He’s certainly been feeding that inner child. I always thought he was dumb as a stump. ✔️ Confirmed
ReplyDeleteBrett is dead to me every since he allowed himself to be used as a Paul Ryan type of tool by calling Arizona early for the Biden.
ReplyDeleteBaier set up Kari Lake and she changed his pronoun to wimp.
