Reaganauts for Ron?

Ronald, Donald, Ronald. It makes perfect sense to me.

Ed Rollins, 79, the national campaign director for the successful Reagan-Bush 1984 campaign, is behind an effort to draft Ron DeSantis as the Republican presidential nominee, ahead of President Donald Trump.

Rollins is not a Never Trumper or even an Establishment Republican as he worked for Ross Perot in 1992 and ran a pro-Trump PAC in 2016, the Great America PAC.

The Daily Mail reported Rollins and Lilian Rodriguez-Baz began the Ready for Ron PAC. The paper described her as an appellate attorney and conservative activist.

She graduated from Florida International Law School in 2011. Her family left Cuba for Florida when she was 4. She makes a good case for DeSantis.

On Tuesday, Rodriguez-Baz wrote, "As a proud Floridian, I’ve seen firsthand how our nation is changing, and not for the better. The freedom, opportunity and values that have historically made America great are under attack. We’re facing an economic disaster made worse daily through awful leadership. Crime is on the rise, illegal immigration is out of control, and our position of strength on the world stage is falling apart. Even as the richest nation on earth, we’re still unable to provide baby formula under today’s leaders, a clear indication that Americans are not being prioritized by their own leaders.

"But it wasn’t always like that. Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the United States enjoyed record high employment, economic stability, national security and global respect. Many are yearning for a return to these policies and the prosperity that comes with good leadership. While his legacy persists, the era of Trump is over and it falls to all of us to look forward for solutions. This is why we need to rally behind a new leader who can undo the disastrous Biden agenda and right our course.

"I know, as do so many others, that the only winning answer is Ron DeSantis.  And that’s why we must get ready for Ron."

Rollins said in a statement posted by the Daily Mail, "The era of President Trump was wonderful, but now, since he isn't currently running, we must get ready for a new leader, we must be Ready for Ron."

President Trump remains the elephant in the room except everyone is talking about him, and we are all experts now, ain't we?

The question is how many miles the elephant has left in him. His 2020 campaign was one of the most energetic, exciting and ultimately disappointing presidential re-election campaigns in the nation's history. The closest to it was Teddy Roosevelt in 1912.

But TR split the Republican ticket, which begat President Woodrow Wilson who begat World War I and the Federal Reserve.

A year ago, DeSantis had no national accomplishments. Now he has pushed the groomers out of the classroom, punished Disney for supporting groomers, and overseen a large influx of newcomers, especially the rich.

Republicans will nominate a Florida resident as president in 2024. The question is which one. will it be the man who lives in Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach or the one who resides in the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee?

  1. As a Floridian I have to say that his list of accomplishments is a record to run on and his experience as a Governor of a large population State is the perfect training to try to bring sanity back to our Federal Government. We will get him re-elected this fall and as much as I will be sad to see him go he would do a great job in the swamp.

    1. I would be surprised if he runs because of his wife's recent cancer diagnosis and treatment. So much uncertainty with this nasty disease that can come back at any time.

  2. Well, there's always Trump-DeSantis (does anybody want Pence again?).

That aside. I get the feeling DeSantis wants to do more with FL and figures running as a successful 2 term governor (or 1 1/2 term and full term VP) may give him more street cred.

As for now, the only big loss Trump had yesterday was GA and they needed the Demos Kemp and Raffensperger back, so his record is still pretty good*.

*What is the sense of open primaries (if there is any?).

    1. Somebody would have to move from Florida before a Trump/DeSantis could be legal.

  3. Trump will run. Just cannot announce now without affecting other things. DeSantis would make a good VP, someone who could take over if necessary.

    1. Trump and Desantis are both residents of Florida. They cannot be on a ticket together.

    2. Please explain your logic. Is that in The Constitution?

  4. I would like to see the Trumpster get in and then set the table for DeSantis. It would be a good one two punch and keep the conservatives in power for three cycles. It will take at least that long to straighten out some of the mess Joe and Obama have made. The FBI won't be fixed easily or quickly, same for the other deep state actors. It needs a long term effort...

    1. DJT wont make the same mistake twice , his cabinet will be missing the snakes that caused so much trouble in the term. he knows the unelected bureaucracy will be against him, all his jokes about moving government out of DC have to come true. he ll also have to dissolve department and reconstitute them,. the cia and fbi need to go and a new agency formed

    2. I also agree. Florida needs DeSantis for another term. In the meantime he can work on who will replace him. I think this talk of replacing Trump is disgusting.

    4. What do you mean he won't make the same mistake twice?
He supported Oz,endorsed Boozman over a true MAGA candidate, endorsed Crapo
endorsed Mitch in 2020 and waited to endose Mastriano until it looked certain that he was going to win. There are others but this is just off the top of my head--sorry he has a a horrible track record in his picks--DeSantis in 2024

  5. I think the table needs to be set for DeSantis in 2028 after two successful terms as governor of Florida.

  6. I give Trump the edge as he has been there and been screwed over. He knows what to do this time and should be more prepared. DeSantis will face a learning curve. DeSantis as VP !

  7. Woodrow Wilson did not beget World War I. That was Europe committing suicide. He merely entered us into it after three years of carnage and winning reelection on the slogan, "He kept us out of war."

As for the coming and future elections, I can see the MAGA Republicans fielding an embarrassment of riches, not only Trump and DeSantis, but Youngkin and Sarah Sanders, who just won her primary last night.

  8. whatever DeSantis was able to do he had support in the legislature.
does not translate as support in US Congress even if R win majority with incumbents returning!

  9. Don:
If we can take over the House and Senate by large margins this November and then put Trump/DeSantis in the White House in 2024, then conservatives will have set the stage for a dozen (or more!) years of REAL Republican governance. That would go a long way towards bringing this nation back to the vision of our founding fathers. We all need to pray and work hard to see this happens.

  10. I gotta say, if Trump were the nominee, I'd vote for him in a flash. That said, I'd rather he didn't run against DeSantis. At this time Trump would be better for the country as a "king" maker. Get money to the folks that would be the best who are having trouble getting funded because of the 'swamp'. His nomination would just bring all the nastiness up and further and altho I'd be in the front lines fighting them, I'd rather not. They'll never forgive Trump. They might give DeSantis some slack (probably not). Plus I think DeSantis can pick his team a bit better than Trump did because he has been political longer than Trump. Trump was a builder and his picks went to those who'd done the job before no matter for who. Bad choices all over.
It will all depend on a whole lot.
One main thing is how much the left cheats this year and 2024. I don't believe Trump and DeSantis could get along. Unless Trump would be Vice.

  12. If I read my US Constitution correctly, it has to be one or the other. President and Vice President on one ticket can't be from the same state. Besides, I'd love to bear witness as President Trump delivers a reckoning. The bill will come due and must be paid in full.

    3. How hard would it be to have Trump change his residency back to NY? Or NJ or anywhere else really. So that is a non issue if he want a Trump DeSantis ticket

    3. It isn't strictly true that there's any law against Prez and VP coming from the same state. The constitution does, however, prohibit the members of the electoral college from voting for 2 candidates from the elector's home state. This would obviously make it pretty hard for a 2-Floridian ticket to win, since they would not get any electoral votes from Florida.

  18. Terrible idea. Fed Guv is beyond hope. Only states can protect our rights. We need DeSantis as leader of governors. We must not lose him to the Swamp. Does anyone really think he wouldn't be stymied at every turn? Turn our backs on the Fed Guv! Corruption so far gone that we must retreat to Red states.

  20. Excellent article as always, Don.
I hope Trump's people see this as a wake up call.
He needs to stop talking about the stuff that happened and start laying down what needs to happen to fix the stuff we're facing.
5 points is all he needs.
Whatever he says, the bad guys will rail against it and call him a white soopreme or whatever....they won't do what he suggests and it will make him look like a genius.

But, enough of this Hillary, stolen election, lap top BS. That can be swept up once the boys have Congress.
