Wokeness terrorizes liberals

The problem with being woke is you can never sleep. Liberal principles are fluid. They went from opposing gay marriage to supporting it to demanding kindergarten teachers talk about their gay marriages to their pupils.

This is crazy, and if anyone objects, the mob comes after them.

Ross Douthat of the New York Times carefully pointed this out in a column, "How to Make Sense of the New LGBTQ Culture War."

He began by pointing to a survey that shows young people are suddenly into LGBT. 21% identify as LGBT -- up from 3% among baby boomers.

He said the report divided people into three camps:

  1. This is great news.
  2. We shouldn’t read too much into it.
  3. This trend is bad news.

Douthat then wrote something very, very dangerous for an NYT writer to admit.

He wrote, "There is no clear evidence that any of this is making kids happier or better adjusted; instead all we see is a worsening of teen mental health, blurring into a young-adult landscape where sex and relationships and marriage are on the wane. So what we need now is probably more emphasis on biology, normativity and reconciliation with your own maleness or femaleness, not further deconstruction."

Zounds. That is quite an admission that LGBT may worsen your mental health.

I am surprised it got past the censors.

He is saying we are tossing away: boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy and girl marry -- which has guided our civilization for 100,000 years.

He admitted that transgendering boys to girls is a problem.

He wrote, "The main feminist concerns, associated most famously with J.K. Rowling (whose very name now summons a howling vortex of online controversy), are about the possible erasure of the biological sex differences that have traditionally been the basis of feminist analysis. This is a practical as well as a philosophical issue, manifest in the debates about whether transgender women belong in women’s sports or women’s prisons."

The liberal mob went after Rowling. The kids who became millionaires and world famous from her Harry Potter movies denounced her as adults.

Douthat took up Florida's Parental Rights in Education law. Liberals call it Don't Say Gay. They think a rise in LGBT identification is great, but don't you dare call them groomers..

He wrote, "The effects of this debate-ending impulse on liberal discourse is the third complexity lurking behind my initial categorization. Within liberaldom right now you literally cannot know, outside of private conversation, whether someone is fully in the first camp, more inclined to the second camp or even drawn toward the third. There is a gap between what people are willing say in public and what they really think that’s unprecedented on any controversial issue I have seen.

"This — call it discretion, if you want — is partly voluntary, based on a desire to be a good ally, to show maximal kindness, and not give any aid and comfort to conservatives, Republicans, Ron DeSantis.

"But it’s also enforced: A version of the Rowling vortex quickly surrounds anyone who argues skeptically about the rise in transgender identification or suggests that hormonal and surgical treatments are being overused, whether that person is a journalist, an author, an academic researcher, even a gender-dysphoria clinician."

Liberals do not fear conservatives. Liberals fear liberals. Seven years ago, Edward Schlosser wrote, "I'm a liberal professor, and my liberal students terrify me."

He wrote, "I once saw an adjunct not get his contract renewed after students complained that he exposed them to 'offensive' texts written by Edward Said and Mark Twain. His response, that the texts were meant to be a little upsetting, only fueled the students’ ire and sealed his fate. That was enough to get me to comb through my syllabi and cut out anything I could see upsetting a coddled undergrad, texts ranging from Upton Sinclair to Maureen Tkacik — and I wasn’t the only one who made adjustments, either.

"I am frightened sometimes by the thought that a student would complain again like he did in 2009. Only this time it would be a student accusing me not of saying something too ideologically extreme — be it communism or racism or whatever — but of not being sensitive enough toward his feelings, of some simple act of indelicacy that’s considered tantamount to physical assault. As Northwestern University professor Laura Kipnis writes, 'Emotional discomfort is [now] regarded as equivalent to material injury, and all injuries have to be remediated.' Hurting a student’s feelings, even in the course of instruction that is absolutely appropriate and respectful, can now get a teacher into serious trouble."

University officials don't care. It is all about the Benjamins. Professor Schlosser should be comforted knowing that these little monsters will be saddled with student loan debt once they drop out or graduate from college.

Douthat and Schlosser and Rowling helped build this little hell they live in. I'd tell them to sleep well, but you cannot sleep when you are Woke.

By the way, the actual NYT headline was "How to Make Sense of the New L.B.G.T.Q. Culture War."

The acronym is LGBTQ. I tried to contact Douthat and could not. I corrected it in the quote because I do not want to confuse readers. We all make mistakes. When I make a mistake, please take the time to tell me at donsurber@gmail.com

Thanks.

  1. The earlier corollary is

"The worst thing that can happen to a socialist is to have his country ruled by socialists who are not his friends."
    --Ludwig von Mises

As for these modern kiddies, well, they are not unlike the pre-WWI German Youth Movement von Mises describes in 'Bureaucracy'. It was a reaction to not the stultifying bureaucratic German culture. It too had leaders similar to today, "The chiefs of the youth movement were mentally unbalanced neurotics. Many of them were affected by a morbid sexuality, they were either profligate or homosexual. None of them excelled in any field of activity or contributed anything to human progress."

That this happened before should not salve us however. While fortunately many of those German youth died in the trenches, those that survived became dutiful slaves to first Hitler, then Stalin. They were the ones who ran the Nazi Final Solution. In the end, very efficient, if genocidal, bureaucrats.

    1. Also the Red Guard in China in the 60's put dunce caps on college professors and paraded them through the streets.
Today the Chinese laugh at us.

    2. These Red Guards are in poverty today, and some have even been killed by the current Chinese Communist Party for opposing the Chinese venture into the world of Capitalism and repudiation of Maoism. These Maoists activists are quite pathetic.

  2. Of course, liberals will continue to yell "the right is moving farther to the right." LOL. We haven't moved at all. Liberty, family, meritocracy. Etc.

    1. I'm glad I was a college grad in the early '80s when students took their academic lumps with aplomb.

I went to a technical college 10 years later for an A.A.S., and the students argued for every little point on tests.

  5. I make more then $12,000 a month online. It’s enough to comfortably replace my old jobs income, especially considering I only work about 11 to 12 hours a week from home. I was amazed how easy it was after I tried it…
    :) AND GOOD LUCK.:)

    3. Tucker had an interesting suggestion for Elon, especially if Twitter's board attempts the poison pill defense. Encourage all of us to by a couple of shares and pledge our proxies to him. He'd get control without having to spend any more money.

On the other hand, if they push legalizing bestiality, I'm in. That way I can keep livestock inside city limits, file a joint tax return, and divorce is only a meat locker away.

  9. The professors may "fear" their liberal students but in reality their liberal students are only doing the university administrations' bidding. That is apparent in their admission that they do not fear conservatives. Conservative students can be just as vocal and critical as liberal students the only difference is that the administration will dismiss conservative complaints while destroying the same professor over liberal complaints. Reform or dismantle university administrations and the problem goes away.

  10. My last few years as a executive in the business world I was largely kept away from customers because I might say something to "hurt their feelings". This was in a industrial setting not retail. The world had started going mad ten or fifteen years ago and we didn't even realize it.

  13. I feel the same way about people like Bill Maher, Megyn Kelly and Bari Weiss. They’re starting to “get it” but they helped create the monster. Had they been even fair to Trump and his supporters, we might not be in this mess.

  15. A personal vignette. Yesterday my grandson called to ask if I wanted to go to the sportsmen's club and hit the range. I, of course, said yes, and this morning off we went. He with his 5.56 AR and custom 6.5 Creedmoor rifles and .45 ACP Kimber and I with my trusty .25-06 Winchester Model 70, sporterized SKS and Ruger Blackhawk. After two hours of punching paper and ringing steel we left the range in excellent states of mind. (I must boast that I rang the 6" gong at 100 yards with the Ruger.) Nary a thought about the LGBTQ culture wars. What blessed relief! Unfortunately, on the trip home we both lost all our firearms in a tragic accident with a canoe.

    1. Sounds like a great day until the damn canoe incident. The firearms are probably near where any weapons of mine are, if I ever owned any.

  16. None of this is news, of course. We've known for several decades that people who get cut (one way or another) do not find the peace they want.

What is a lie is the idea, floated by the we're-not-Kinsey crowd, that it's 3% that are homosexual.

CDC, in the days of Zippy, said it was 1.3% who IDed as one type of deviant or another, after a long survey, which jibes with other, previous estimates.

    Liberals do not fear conservatives.

Only when the Conservatives get mad. Consider Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.

  17. Just my personal opinion. "Is a transgender woman a real woman?" The answer is No. If you have to label him as a transgender woman in order to ask the question, you have already said that he is not a woman. Calling a man a woman does not make him a woman.

  18. Try as they might, Femi-Naziis are still women. As they quietly creep up the pecking order, they maintain the habit of making a mental note of every snub and slight they encounter. Then when the facts get in the way of their argument, they flip to reciting their Littany of VICTIMHOOD. Good luck with THAT type of leadership.

  19. Here's an interesting thought. If a man can be woman (and vice versa), or a white person can identify as black, then why couldn't a man claim to be a woman who identifies as a man? He'd be a trans both ways. Heads would explode.

  20. I’m gay. Been with my guy for many years. Our relationship is our own and not looking for your approval. But the crazies trying to impose their views are damn dangerous. I’ve always had the ability to live my life as wanted. These idiots want you to live your lives the way they think you should.
