Macgregor: Zelensky is no hero

Retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor dared to tell Stuart Varney on Fox Business News that we should not hail Zelensky as a hero.

Liz Cheney tweeted, "Douglas Macgregor, nominated by Trump as ambassador to Germany; appointed by Trump as senior advisor to the Secretary of Defense, says Russian forces have been 'too gentle' and 'I don’t see anything heroic' about Zelensky.

"This is the Putin wing of the GOP."

And there it is: name-calling instead of an answer to a legitimate question of why are we siding with Ukraine.

The only person to actually try to give an answer to that was Kamala, who said, "So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong, and it goes against everything that we stand for."

She tried.

Macgregor said Ukraine is not our concern.

Via Carmine Sabia, Macgregor said, "The first five days, Russian forces I think, frankly, were too gentle. They’ve now corrected that. So I would say another 10 days, this should be completely over. But the question is, what is it that Zelensky is going to do? The Russians have made it very clear what they want is a neutral Ukraine. This could’ve ended days ago if he accepted that. And then they can adjust the borders, but the eastern part of Ukraine is firmly in Russian hands, but again, the Russians are not seizing territory. They’re destroying Ukrainian forces. That’s their focus."

Varney said, "Colonel, it sounds like you don’t approve of Zelensky’s stand."

Macgregor said, "Oh, I think Zelensky is a puppet. And he is putting huge numbers of his own population at unnecessary risk, and quite frankly, most of what comes out of Ukraine is debunked as lies within 24 to 48 hours. The notions of taking and retaking airfields, all of this is nonsense. It hasn’t happened."

Varney said, "He’s not a hero? He’s standing up for himself and his own people. You don’t think he’s a hero?"

Macgregor said, "No, I do not. I don’t see anything heroic about the man. And I think the most heroic thing that he can do right now is to come to terms with reality. Neutralize Ukraine. This is not a bad thing. A neutral Ukraine would be good for us as well as for Russia. It would create the buffer that, frankly, both sides want. But he’s, I think, being told to hang on and try to drag this out, which is tragic for the people that have to live through this."

Varney said, "I am inclined to disagree with you, colonel, but, you know, we’ll see how this works out."

Macgregor makes more sense to me than Vindman and the rest.

Readers may wonder why I am not accepting the NATO narrative on the Russo-Ukraine War.

Let us review, shall we?

If you dare question global warming (recently renamed climate change), they say you are for pollution and corporate greed.

If you dare question Obamacare, they say you must want people to die.

If you dare question how Biden got so many mail-in votes, they say you are an insurrectionist.

If you dare question BLM, they say you are a racist.

And if you dare question the validity of masks, vax and social distancing, they say you want people to die again this time from covid.

The pattern is clear. Any time you question them, they call you names instead of answering the question.

On top of that, their solutions never solve the problem. Replacing cars with electric cars results in big batteries "that have high environmental costs."

Obamacare did not make health insurance cheaper.

Not reviewing the election results has increased public skepticism and reduced public confidence in voting.

Following the BLM riots, the murders of black men soared.

And of course, all those mandated precautions did little to slow -- let alone stop -- the spread of covid.

Now if you dare question the West's sudden support for Ukraine, they say you are a puppet for Putin.

The propaganda campaign on this one is so good that polls show three-quarter of Americans want the USA to shoot down Russian aircraft over Ukraine. That's an act of war. Three-fourths of the nation are willing to risk World War 3 over a racketeer influenced corrupt government.

Some of the militia members are actual neo-Nazis.

We are only hearing one side to this story. Zelensky got to speak in private to 300 members of Congress and senior staffers on Saturday morning. That is incredible access.

Of course, he's pleading to Congress directly because the Biden administration is not doing his bidding. It said no to a No Fly Zone.

Victor Davis Hanson noticed lefties who propped Putin up in the past are rabid in their sudden support of freedom.

VDH wrote, "How surreal the Left has become. From Hillary Clinton’s 2009 reset to Barack Obama’s hot mic buffoonery, to blankets for Ukraine and applause for Biden’s recent request that Russia pump more oil and hack only approved U.S. companies and institutions, the Left repeatedly has appeased Putin. Yet now the Left accuses its critics of pro-Putin pacifist sympathies! It is almost as if after spending a decade ensuring a Russian invasion of Ukraine and refusing to pump more oil and gas, the schizophrenic Left now wishes to risk a pre-midterm nuclear showdown."

The Cuban missile crisis worked for JFK in 1962.

Let us not fall for this.

Let us learn from Afghanistan and Iraq. Wars are easy to get into, hard to win, and impossible to keep any gains.

Instead of sending Zelensky more ammo, how about we send him a battalion of peace negotiators?

Kane at Citizen Free Press reported, "Ukraine executes peace negotiator for treason…"

All is not as it appears to be on TV despite Liz Cheney's assurances.

EV batteries probably responsible for the fires that sank the ship carrying your Bentley.

  2. The more this drags on, the more I think that MacGregor is right. Not our monkey, not our Circus. The Fact that Putin wants the Russian Part of Ukraine and the rest neutral isn't exactly Hit8er, 1939.The MSM screaming this is a war of conquest, by Russia with all sorts of imagined scenarios. Both sides have sinned against God
and Humanity. No one is not guilty. Zelensky meeting congress is scary, and Liz Cheney is right there in the center ring blaming, by proxy, Trump.

    - More and more proof about election fraud in 2020
    - Durham's recent filings and proof that Hillary orchestrated the whole Trump/Russia fraud
    - Worst inflation most of us have ever seen
    - Oncoming food scarcity and economic collapse
    - Proof that Fauci helped create Covid and that it was used to take away our freedom and destroy our economy
    - Biden's pathetic poll numbers

The Democrats/Left/Globalists are heading toward a wipe out in November because its too hard to rig thousands of local elections. Now, what would be a good excuse to prevent elections from happening?

    1. In the interest of comity amongst us :-), I actually agree with your entire list. But note that we are in this mess because of the things that the clown show has done - and now they are trying to "switch sides" in an attempt to cover up that THEY empowered putin and made this mess.

As PDJT has pointed out, of four Presidents so far in this century, he is the only one under whom Putin did NOT invade neighbors and take territory. Supplying the requested Javelin missiles and (most importantly) making the US the world's largest hydrocarbon producer kept our economy humming, hydrocarbon prices low, and on that last kept Putin from having the cash to finance his adventures and (1930s-Germany-style) irredentist grievances.

All these clowns had to do to maintain the relatively-quiet status quo was DO NOTHING. But they threw it all away on all these green delusions, and gave puny weak Putin a huge dose of steroids.

Now, having done that and created this monster, they have to distract from that by "changing sides" and bragging loudly about it.

There is no principle from the left on this one - they don't have principles, only tactics. They don't care a wit about Ukraine and Ukrainians - all they want to do is use Ukraine to distract from their own failings (which you listed above).

Pulling for putin won't harm the domestic left - it will only harm people who want nothing to do with putin's corrupt squat getting any bigger.

    2. Snowgander I believe you're a good person and an ally in the fight against the Left/Globalists. My issue before was with people simply falling for obvious Fake News lies and when anyone tried to point out the obvious Fake News lies they were smeared as Putin supporters. I don't give a shit about Putin. If he died today I'd have a bowel movement and go on about the rest of my day.

But Russia is no threat to us. The threat is the people who stole the election from us, the people who sold our economy to Mexico and China, the people leaving our southern border wide open, the people who created Covid and then released it, the people who locked us down in order to take away our rights and destroy our economy, the pedophiles running our schools, the people bankrolling Antifa and BLM and on and on and on.

Russia is ZERO threat to America. The only threat is if the same people destroying America are able to start a nuclear war over a corrupt shithole called Ukraine. Do not be distracted by the Globalists newest shiny object. Do not support their agenda. This is all meant to prevent you from focusing on the real problems and what they plan on doing while we're distracted with Ukraine.

    4. B_L - I'm glad (really!) that we're mostly on the same page.

But I disagree that Russia is zero threat - Mitt Romney had that right vs. obozo, but more importantly they indeed were no threat when PDJT was running the show and was keeping Vlad boxed up. Within a week, sniffy not only cancelled Keystone - he curtailed arms shipments to Ukraine; if Vlad had a puppet President in the WH, he couldn't have asked for more.

Irredentism is a VERY powerful and dangerous force, and even goes beyond its "old territory" bounds - both Hitler in the 1930s and Greece in the early-20th-century were using "language" to make claims on territories that never belonged to either country. Vlad can if he wishes make extensive "language-based" claims on places like eastern Estonia and all of Latvia (due to Russian immigration during soviet time). And in much of eastern Europe, Russian was a school requirement prior to 1991 and so large chunks of place like Poland and the Baltic countries are technically "Russian-speaking."

Russia is now a threat because sniffy and co. completely screwed up EVERYTHING - Vlad suddenly had both the money and the weak-opposition to make a go of it viable.

I had a conversation with a euro-type over there (person of influence) back in 2009 - the euro welfare state types are flummoxed as to why Vlad is obsessing over irredentism rather than focusing on "social problems"; the demographic problems in Russia include a blue-state-level birthrate along with male life expectancy below 60.

But in Vlad's mind, making Russia a big power with a proper-and-recognized "sphere of influence" will solve Russia's social problems - that's why an empowered Vlad is so dangerous. (Look at what Germany's "Place in the Sun" stuff did 100+ years ago.)

PDJT has Putin boxed in; team sniffy let him and out, and now are both astonished and trying to cover up their failings.

    5. BTW, one other thing that's an echo. It's been a Russian thing for decades now to accuse anyone who is opposed to them of being a bunch of nazis. Back in the 1980s, anyone who was trying to piece together history from only Pravda and Radio Moscow could be forgiven for concluding that the US and Britain had fought in WW2 as allies of *Germany* and *against* Russia. Keep that in mind when vlad seems to be able to find/hallucinating "nazis" all over the place.

I was going to say that the domestic left might have learned this from the Russians, but they actually did. Back in the 1980s, they would accuse anyone who was soviet-skeptic of being a "fascist." The domestic left was calling everyone else "nazis" decades ago, and is also just repeating the same trick.

    6. Well said.

To Don & Co. MacGregor is talking rot. The reason why the Russian attack was "gentle" wasn't because they were minding civilian casualties, it was because of two factors: the season and the political objective of the campaign.
The ground in Ukraine was already thawing in mid-February, which any historian of WW2 will tell you happens and starts to constrict military operations to the roads. This makes it much easier for defenders as they only have to concentrate on road junctions and not spread out across country.
It also means that crossing rivers is hard work, hence the importance of bridges, which the Ukrainians tend to blow before the Russian forces get there.
The nature of the first 72 hours of attack makes sense if you see the Russian campaign as a decapitation strategy against a foe thought to be no more than a house of cards in strength and will to fight.
Bumrush the cities, capture the local administrations and the national government and cause the Ukrainians (who by the way have been fighting since 2014) to collapse.
This didn't work because the Ukrainians fought - hence the columns of wiped out APCs, IFV and tanks in the cities.
It wasn't being too gentle (sadism in the pro-Putin camp?) but vast overconfidence.
Now the Russians are stuck on the roads, pushing slowly forwards against Ukrainian resistance and their own logistics problems.
Nothing to do with a failure to obliterate small towns with massed fire.

    1. FWIW, I have numerous friends there and have been there too numerous times (all over the country), and most of them feel differently.

But since this whole mess has everyone digging up stuff from the 1930s and 1940s...

Romania is now a very friendly country to the US - polls are polls I know, but in recent years, three countries in particular in eastern Europe have stood out as viewing the US very favorably - Albania, Poland, and Romania.

But back in the 1930s, Romania was one of the most pro-Nazi countries in Europe - you can look up the Iron Guard and Ion Antonescu. Romania was a formal ally of Germany in Barbarossa, and large numbers of Romanian troops were part of operations during that invasion - and Romania actually was rewarded not only with getting back the Moldavian SSR (now Moldova), they also got more territory further east (I think that Odessa was actually part of Romania during this time).

In December 1941, the US declared war not on three countries, but on *four* - Japan, Germany, Italy, and Romania.

In 1944, as the Red Army closed in from the east, Romania actually pulled an Italy and switched sides. Interesting story.

Net is that let's be careful to rush to think that everything from the 1930s and 1940s was just there waiting to be revived. Romania is actually a good example of that problem.

As for Zelensky, he is taking a lot of chances and it's as I said here a few days ago, he may be a crook, but it appears he's also brave.

    We shall see.

We went to A-stan because that's where Al Qaeda was based. That one was forced on us, much like Pearl Harbor.

We went to Iraq to nail a state sponsor of terrorism (and to isolate another).

most of what comes out of Ukraine is debunked as lies within 24 to 48 hours. The notions of taking and retaking airfields, all of this is nonsense. It hasn’t happened.

I have yet to see any support of that, but I'll keep an open mind.

As for who's the good guys, all this does hark back to Barbarossa, as I noted earlier.

Some of the militia members are actual neo-Nazis.

    Holodomor.

People in that part of the world have long memories. It may not be appealing, but, as I also said a few days ago, they do hate the Russians and they had no compunctions about fighting dirty.

  12. Seriously, this guy sounds like he is auditioning for the Neville Chamberlain award. It's eerie how so much of what is being said now could be found by just replacing Hitler-Czechslovakia-1938 with Putin-Ukraine-2022.

Keep in mind that there has long been an "establishment" viewpoint in DC that the "solution" to the Iran problem is to make some sort of "spheres of influence" agreement with vlad - wherein he gets back the old soviet "sphere of influence" in eastern Europe in exchange for him "fixing" the Iran problem for us.

That's not conjecture - a bunch of "establishment" types, 10 or 12 years ago, penned a piece in the WSJ proposing exactly this - and not surprisingly it sparked a furor in eastern Europe. Having suffered for decades and finally getting out from under the CCCP, now they were going to be bargained back to Russian control without their consent or consultation?

Bad things happen when "big powers" try to act like master chess players and cut deals amongst themselves while regarding the people and places they are using as bargaining chips that are as inanimate as blocks of wood.

BTW, since I've been to that country numerous times, be very careful about the whole "Russian speakers" propaganda. Language in Ukraine is a WAY more complicated issue that the lazy media types realize. Ponder a case where a British PM said that "We only want back the English-speaking parts of Ireland."

Russian diplomat Mikhail Ulyanov praised Iranian negotiators ahead of the public announcement of an updated deal that would presumably reduce international sanctions on their oil and gas in exchange for limiting their civilian nuclear program.

“Iranian colleagues are fighting for [their] national interest like lions,” he said. “They fight for every comma, every word, and as a rule, quite successfully.”

“I am absolutely sincere in this regard when I say that Iran got much more than it could expect,” he said. “Our Chinese friends were also very efficient and useful as co-negotiators.”

They seemed to believe their own b.s. - that Ukraine had been seized by an unpopular cabal of "nazis," that they would be welcomed as liberators, and that they would not only wrap it up in two or three days but would get all the supplies they needed locally.

Reminds me too that since the Bolsheviks got Russia out of WW1, Russia has fought only one major war - yeah, it was a doozy, but in that one almost all of their logistical equipment and the vast majority of their supplies came from the U.S. via "Lend-Lease" (sic). They have never actually done logistics on their own.

    1. I've been trying to find it on youtube and haven't succeeded, but maybe someone else can do better and find it - someone had it on a twitter feed last week but now I can't find THAT.

One thing that propelled Zelensky to prominence was a role he played in a TV show where his character was a small-town schoolteacher. One afternoon just after classes had ended, his father stops by for some reason, and they end up talking politics. The Zelensky character ends up going on a rant that is videoed by a student who hadn't left the building yet; it goes viral, and the schoolteacher ends up being elected President.

The rant should make even Americans cringe, since it sounds so familiar. He rants that, yes, they have free elections, but it's a competition between two sets of corruptocrats who are taking turns robbing the country blind.

As I said elsewhere, ponder that that rant actually lands on the big problem and the big divide in much of the world these days...

  21. I would love to hear a direct answer from any Democrat to this question: If Putin is such a terrible man (and he is) why are we still buying Russian oil/gas? Follow up question: why does it make more sense to buy Russian/Iranian/Venezuelan oil rather than increase domestic US production? #LetsGoBrandon

  22. C'mon Don, you're old enough to remember March 1993 where the US, UK, France, Germany and Russia agreed that Ukraine would remain free and independent provided they did not accept NATO weapons nor influence. Der Spiegel actually did an article over a week ago. What's being lost in all of this is that Ukraine is a free and independent country, however, they have accepted NATO weapons and influence. Play stupid games, win silly prizes.

    1. The agreement was that Ukraine would give up the Soviet-era nuclear weapons that it inherited in exchange for having the new countries extant borders left as-is.

Putin stomped all over that back in 2014.

Keep in mind that the main message from this particular agreement-and-what-happened is...

      o If you possess nuclear weapons, don't give them up;

o If you DON'T have nuclear weapons, get them as soon as possible.

    2. Putin stomped all over that back in 2014.

Because ... The Ukrainian coup government started attacking Russian-oriented Ukrainians in the Donbas. And to secure their only warm water port on the Black Sea from a government that turned hostile to them.

    3. Umm, no - and I ask again how they could be attacking people in a region that they don't control and haven't since 2014.

2014 was the Ukrainians ejecting putin's puppet president (same guy both times) for the second time in ten years. The reason it went ugly is because putin's puppet brought in snipers to fire on the protesters in central Kyiv, killing about 100 of them. It was a rerun of Bucharest 1989, except yanukovich managed to escape to (surprise?) Russia.

Vlad keeps trying to grab Ukraine and keeps failing...

    4. It is not clear whose snipers fired on people at the Maiden protests. Some Euro leaders have indicated they think it was done by the neo-nazi factions of the protests as a false flag operation.

  23. Putin, who was enriched by the Biden cutback in US oil production & transport, reacted exactly as most sane & objective experts have been predicting for years. After the "strategic charter" between the US & Ukraine was signed on Nov 10 proclaiming US support for Ukraine to join NATO, Russia moved troops to the border. Before the invasion, Putin was very clear he wanted a "No NATO" assurance for Ukraine or he would invade. He received no such assurance from Ukraine or the US. Biden kept telling the American public that Russia was going to invade. So, why didn't the US and/or Zelenky burn the new charter and fly a huge "NO NATO" flag in Ukraine? So, the war progresses and all the brutality that comes with it. Yes, negotiators should go resolve whatever they can as soon as they can. But, don't send any of the current US "professionals". So far since January 2021, here are those blessed by the DC gang: Russia, Mexican Cartels, Taliban and, in process, Iran. Those heavily undermined: US taxpayers & middle to lower classes, US allies in Afghanistan, US allies elsewhere (soon - particularly in the Middle east) and the people who just wanted to live their lives peacefully in Ukraine.

  26. I sure could use some mean tweets right now.

I can't believe the US eoite actually want a war where no one can win.

Except, of course, the elite chirren, who will suck off the massive foreign aid the US would send to rebuild Ukraine.

This whole thing makes me sick.

When will the US learn to stay out of other country's business. WE caused the problems in Ukraine I am sad to say.

The DC media won’t report this (@JuliePace)….

Trump sanctioned Putin’s pipeline and Biden and the Democrats in the Senate dropped the sanctions.

Guess what happened in Ukraine after that?

  28. Zelensky is a traitor to Ukrainians. Instead of talking to the people in Donbas, he hit them with artillery for years. And now he is pushing untrained civilians to be armed combatants not in uniform, which means by the rules of warfare that they can be immediately shot as saboteurs.

The US government thinks that no one has a right to any opinion, or any war, that is not their own.

  31. Appeasement, the path suggested may work, but it also may not. Kane and MacGregor are cock sure of their correctness. But Ukraine was never offered by Russia to simply be nuetral and they would not invade. They planned regardless to take those so-called Russian provinces. We'll see.
