NCAA admits transgenders aren't the same

After 11 years of allowing transgenders to compete as women in sports, the NCAA finally has acknowledged that this gives former men an advantage. Swimmer Lia Thomas, who fancies herself as the Jackie Robinson of transgenders has shown the folly of the old rule.

Thomas has had the surgery and has lowered her testosterone level.

But she also has shattered just about every women's swimming record there is.

And post-surgery her swimming is slower.

Shall we compare her best times as a man to her post-surgery swimming, which I put in parenthesis?

200 Free … 1:39.31 (1:41.93)

500 Free … 4:18.72 (4:34.06)

1,650 Free … 14:54.76 (15:59.71)

She was a good male swimmer. She made second team all-Ivy League in her sophomore year. The lower speeds may be the result of recovering from surgery.

But her years of being male gave her a physical advantage that should disqualify her. No one is brave (or stupid) enough to say that. The LGBT will make your life miserable. Instead, the talk is about a level playing field, which is odd as pool water is as level as it gets.

Michael Phelps said, "I think this leads back to the organizing committees again, because it has to be a level playing field. That’s something that we all need. Because that’s what sports are. For me, I don’t know where this is going to go. I don’t know what’s going to happen."

Well no one except Caitlyn Jenner.

The rules are being changed midseason. Sorta.

The NCAA Board of Governors announced it "voted in support of a sport-by-sport approach to transgender participation that preserves opportunity for transgender student-athletes while balancing fairness, inclusion and safety for all who compete. The new policy, effective immediately, aligns transgender student-athlete participation for college sports with recent policy changes from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and International Olympic Committee.

"Like the Olympics, the updated NCAA policy calls for transgender participation for each sport to be determined by the policy for the national governing body of that sport, subject to ongoing review and recommendation by the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports to the Board of Governors. If there is no NGB policy for a sport, that sport's international federation policy would be followed. If there is no international federation policy, previously established IOC policy criteria would be followed.

"The Board of Governors urged the divisions to provide flexibility to allow for additional eligibility if a transgender student-athlete loses eligibility based on the policy change provided they meet the newly adopted standards."

In football, this is called a punt.

We deserve better from an organization that rakes in $1.1 billion a year, most of it from football and men's basketball. Ah, the irony of men's sports subsidizing women's sports in college where men now are an underrepresented minority of 40% on college campuses. Most of the players are black men who are an even smaller minority.

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America ain't happy.

CSAA tweeted, "We have been in communication with the NCAA BoG and are disappointed in their failure to take the lead in this important discussion."

Thomas has my sympathy. She was a very good Ivy League men's swimmer. Why not allow her to continue to compete with the men? In fact, why not make that the default for all transgenders?

Whatever the outcome, Thomas has shown that women's sports are not the equal of men's.

  3. I don't remember where I read the comment, and I can't attest to its veracity, but just the same it made sense: If you took the 10th place finisher in mens' 100 meter dash and put him against the fastest women in that sport, he would win by a ridiculous margin.

  4. I fully support caring about people, whether normal or trans. I would fully support any sport where a man wants to participate as a woman. But, he has to participate in the men's division. He can wear a full one piece suit, but he is still a man and must compete against like opponents.

    1. The effects of testosterone on physiology begin in utero. It's even detectable in fraternal twins where one is female and one is male.
The real tragedy of this mental illness is the attempt to say that "God made a mistake". And the true evil is the enablers of the lunacy.

  6. Sorry, I guess I'm old school. I disagree with calling Thomas by she or by her. He was born a male with all the right equipment, evidently. While Thomas did take the plunge (pardon the pun) and actually have the surgery performed and taken the other medical treatments, he was born a male and has acquired all the other physical qualities of a male. I have a hard time believing our society has fallen for this nonsense for 11 years in the world of sports. I didn't realize this farce had gone on that long.

  7. It's a his. "His" testosterone level. "He" not she shattered women's records. "He" was a good male competitor. He is a fraud. Males vs Males, Females against females and Trans against Trans. Imagine the spectator turnout of Trans vs Trans? Let the free market rule here!

  9. I recall, maybe about 25 years ago, that a team of "ladyboys" defeated Thailand's men's Olympic soccer team and caused a national embarrassment, but at least it was the proverbial level playing field.

  11. Anyway you look at it, anyone who actually wants to mutilate them selves to be "a different sex" has serious mental problems. Yet, look at todays military!!!!

  13. Your own article here in reinforcing insanity = this boy is not a girl and putting on a girls swimsuit to cover man-boobs does not make him a girl. There is no "she" when describing a man unless you want to talk about ladyboys and guess what? Ladyboys are still a male they just make-believe dress up LIKE a girl. So stop it. This boy is a boy and that's it. He can further demand to be known as a cat and nope. Not a cat. A boy.

His, not her, and there's nothing he can do about the superior musculature he has as a man.

  15. There are differing reports whether Lia has had a "lop-it-offa-me". She has been taking the hormones for 2+ years.

  16. "Swimmer Lia Thomas, who fancies herself as the Jackie Robinson of transgenders has shown the folly of the old rule."

Don, please don't buy into this insanity. Lia Thomas is a MAN, and you should always refer to HIM as a MAN. He does not "fancy HIMself" as anything but a man who is playing the system to get victories and records at the cost of real women!!!!

We on the sane side of this issue have to stand firm. We can't give them an inch, or they will demand a mile!!! So please let me re-write that opening sentence for you:

"Mentally ill male swimmer Lia Thomas, who fancies himself as the Jackie Robinson of transgenders has shown the folly of the old rule."

  17. Um. Why are you calling him a she? That's what this is all about. It's not really about women's sports or scholarships (altho the women involved i'm sure have a big interest). It's about control. It's about twisting people's minds so that they speak lies as truth as normally as the actual truth. By calling this person a "she" while they are still a complete male is part of that lie and twisting people's minds.
This bit about "their pronouns" is another. And it should not be adhered to out of respect or comity or any sort of aim at civility. They certainly aren't being civil about anyone who doesn't conform and you can believe it's going to get worse. We're already firing teachers because they wouldn't "meow" back to a student who identified as a cat!

This guy who calls himself Lia and says he's a female whether he really believes it or not does not deserve nor will he ever earn the right to demand we acknowledge his mental deficiency nor to cooperate in his brain twisting for what ever reason.

    Stop it Don.

  18. My mistake I didn't realize that he had the surgery. That still doesn't change a thing in my view as his innard parts are the same. He cannot have children. He never could. Fiddling with his hormone levels does not make him a woman.
And it's still brain twisting regardless.

  19. He is not a she. Never was never will be. Stop calling him using a female pronoun. He should have received mental help not surgery and hormones. And maybe someone should investigate his parents. Something happened to him that made his mind go.

  20. If a transgender competition team is established, watch for them to demand separate teams based on biological sex. A woman athlete identifying as a man will never be as fast or as strong as a male athlete pretending to be a woman.

  21. Why do we never see trans "men" wanting to compete on the men's basketball or football teams? (Rhetorical)

  22. Mildly interesting I saw a picture of this boy/man standing in demure girls swimsuit to cover manboobs and wondered where did he tuck a dick? We all quite know a man has one... was it taped up or backwards underneath or what? Questioning minds want to know.
