Highlights of the News

ITEM 1: Hey, remember when Maggie Haberman of NYT heard the band play Edelweiss at Trump's White House and freaked out thinking it was a Nazi song? It was written by two Jewish men a dozen years after the war and for their antiwar, anti-Nazi musical The Sound of Music.

And now for the rest of the story.

In the movie version of the musical, Julie Andrews portrayed Maria Von Trapp, who became the matriarch of a family of singers.

Life News reported, "The von Trapps were new to America when Maria was pregnant with her son, Johannes, the youngest of their 10 children. The family also was struggling financially because they recently had lost their fortune in a bank crash in Europe, according to the report.

"Then, more bad news came. When Maria visited a doctor complaining of severe back pains, he told her that she needed to abort her baby."

They were Catholic.

The story said, "However, the von Trapps refused to consider aborting their unborn son. Instead, they began to pray, asking God to heal both Maria and Johannes. When Maria went into labor, the family gathered together to pray the rosary and sing hymns together, she wrote in her book."

Lord willing and the creek don't rise, he will celebrate his 83rd birthday next month.

ITEM 2: Unherd reported, "How Defund the Police backfired. After a spike in crime, progressive cities are reversing cuts."

The story said, "Consider San Francisco. Its jail population plummeted to 766 in 2021 from 2,850 in 2019. If progressives had done what they’d promised, there would be 2,000 extra people on probation being supported to stay sober and out of trouble. That hasn’t happened. And that’s troubling because many who are released re-offend. Half of all offenders — and three-quarters of the most violent ones — who were released from San Francisco jails before trial, between 2016 and 2019, went on to commit new crimes. Instead of benevolent paternalism, progressives delivered libertarian anarchism. And yet all that would have been required would have been weekly drug testing, check-ins with probation officers, and electronic monitoring."

This is the plan. Democrats want to amp up violent crime so that this enables them to have a larger police force with more power to control the law-abiding.

Think not? As crime escalates in NYC, the police sent a squad to remove children from a Burger King for not having a vaccine passport.

ITEM 3: Ronald Klain is Biden's chief of staff.

He should go Greyhound, and leave the tweeting to us.

ITEM 4: Politico reported, "‘The View’ struggles to find a Republican."

Meghan McCain left. They won't hire a Trump supporter. Let them rot.

The story said, "Sources said that the show was eager to recruit young libertarian Kat Timpf, but she turned them down because of the show’s reputation for treating conservatives poorly and her contract with Fox. Timpf declined to comment to Playbook. Others have said that the show has a responsibility to fill the conservative chair with a strong Republican co-host ahead of the midterms if they are going to be a credible political talk show."

Liz Cheney will be available after January 3, 2023.

ITEM 5: Tom Cotton tweeted, "After campaigning on accelerating FDA approval of testing and treatments, it took Joe Biden *11 months* to even nominate an FDA Commissioner.

"The Administration then botched the paperwork, delaying confirmation until 2022."

This is the OUA -- Obama Understudies Administration.

Not ready for prime time.

ITEM 6: On the Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers said, "If science can't be questioned it's not science anymore. It's propaganda and that's the truth."

The CDC backed down from its 10-day quarantine rule and it looks like vax mandates are about to go the way of the pet rock.

Republicans had better call for a full investigation of the handling of covid. I want Fauci and the rest of the federal medical bureaucracy held accountable. And then I want most of it dismantled and the rest of it reduced.

ITEM 7: Just the News reported, "The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention significantly overestimated the prevalence of the COVID-19 variant omicron according to revised data released Tuesday.

"Omicron accounted for less than 59% of new COVID infections the week of Dec. 25, per new CDC data.

"Data published this week shows that omicron was three times less prevalent last week than reported. The CDC stated previously that that about 73% of new COVID infections were caused by omicron for the week of Dec. 18. That number was revised Tuesday to 22.5% of cases."

They don't know what they are doing.

Omicron actually is good for us because it could immunize us against the harsher versions of covid.

ITEM 8: WND reported, "Kaboom! Judge lets inspection of 2020 Dominion voting machines take place

"State officials actually sued to PREVENT review of system."

We will never get to the bottom of the 2020 election but what we learn from this may help in the mid-terms next year and the 2024 presidential election.

ITEM 9: Reuters reported, "China, under fire for approving new coal power stations as other countries try to curb greenhouse gases, has completed the first 1,000-megawatt unit of the Shanghaimiao plant, the biggest of its kind under construction in the country.

"Its operator, the Guodian Power Shanghaimiao Corporation, a subsidiary of the central government-run China Energy Investment Corporation, said on Tuesday that the plant's technology was the world's most efficient, with the lowest rates of coal and water consumption.

"Located in Ordos in the coal-rich northwestern region of Inner Mongolia, the plant will eventually have four generating units, and is designed to deliver power to the eastern coastal Shandong province via a long-distance ultra-high voltage grid.

"China is responsible for more than half of global coal-fired power generation and is expected to see a 9% year-on-year increase in 2021, an International Energy Agency report published this month said."

We need a president who says to hell with this windmill stuff, fire up those coal plants!

ITEM 10: Adam Andrzejewski of Open the Books reported, "On Christmas Eve, Dr. Anthony Fauci turned 81. However, he is not retiring just yet.If he did, Fauci would reap the largest federal retirement package in U.S. history. Our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com estimate Dr. Fauci’s annual retirement would exceed $350,000."

His handling of covid was criminal. Republicans should get him for lying to Congress. A conviction would deny him his ill-gotten gains.

ITEM 11: The Tennessee Star reported, "Republicans Move to Ban Federal Funds to States, Cities That Allow Non-Citizens to Vote."

Marco Rubio makes his move for 2024.

ITEM 12: Fox reported, "The Chicago dispatcher who was widely praised for his calm demeanor while assisting officers who came under fire over the summer issued a stark warning on social media last week, saying at least one district is dangerously understaffed. Keith Thornton Jr., the dispatcher, took to Facebook to inform followers that there is a staffing problem in the 16th District, despite assurances from city leaders, the Chicago Sun-Times reported."

Democrats want high crime, hence their campaign to rid cities of good cops.

ITEM 13: Breitbart reported, "China’s government-run propaganda newspaper Global Times defended President Joe Biden on Monday from Americans using the phrase 'let’s go, Brandon' to signal dissatisfaction with his job performance, claiming it is representative of 'extreme political sentiment' and branding it abuse."

Now we know where NBC got the idea to bash Let's Go Brandon -- a phrase its own reporter created.

ITEM 14: I mentioned a few days ago that 538 asked on Twitter for women's stories on abortion.

Andrea Widburg reported, "FiveThirtyEight probably expected very different abortion stories."

Robin tweeted, "I found myself unexpectedly pregnant at the age of 22 in my last semester of college with my daughter. Her father and I decided to marry, and she is still the most unexpected blessing in our lives. I cannot imagine a world without her joyful presence."

Abby Johnson tweeted, "Yes, I’ve had two. Biggest mistakes of my life. There’s nothing more unnatural than a mother taking the life of her child. Women need support and encouragement, not abortion."

Nick Searcy tweeted, "My son was born extremely prematurely to a single mother who lived in the projects. Rather than abort him, she gave him life and allowed us to adopt him. He’s the handsomest and sweetest young man you could ever meet. I thank God for him every day."

People used their real names. Real stories. There's a reason not many women brag about an abortion. I trust the people at 538 now know why.

ITEM 15: Motorious reported, "UK Inches Closer To Eliminating Private Car Ownership."

This is the goal of electric cars and other nutty ideas. Mobility is freedom.

FINALLY, a reader wrote, "Do you realize that Let's Go Brandon chanters are the new LGB community?

"Feel free to use this in your blog."

As well as the FJB community.

It’s worse than that. I couldn’t find the following in the NY Post, so thank God for the video (in the article).

The Jackboots Have Arrived – NYPD Begin Arresting Unvaccinated Americans During Indoor COVID Compliance Checks
New York City was the first large metropolitan area to require vaccination identification cards to enter restaurants, bars, dining establishments and various public and private venues. Now comes the enforcement part.
Watch this video below to see the New York Police Department (NYPD) start deploying vaccination police, and making arrests of people who do not present papers to prove their status.
    …..
NYPD is the first to start showing their jackbooted nature. Next will likely be Chicago and Los Angeles; it spreads from there. Once the Blue State governors and city officials see they can turn to violence in order to retain their dictates, orders and demands, that violence will not stop – nor will it diminish.

  2. Item 9: “China .. has completed the first 1,000-megawatt [coal-fired power plant].” With the stockpile of uranium they have for nuclear weapons, you’d think they would be building nuclear power plants. In fact, I’m surprised they’re not selling a “Made in China” portable nuclear power plant the size of a Honda generator. They would sell thousands in Florida as a hurricane approaches. The only problem would be the software back door that Xi would use to make them all explode in unison when Trump 2.0 imposes new sanctions on China.

    1. For a decade I tested newly constructed nuclear power plants and had been a licensed operator/supervisor before that time. I saw up front that the plants are safe but the management wasn't/isn't (?). I saw AEC/NRC testing standards and operations protocols violated. I went against such crap and won some battles when in operations but at one plant was "fired" and blacklisted for challenging management's decisions.
An operator has to maintain profitability and safety; at times not compatible. I could not verify once if my instruments were correct showing a run away chain reaction during a shutdown with the possible movement of fuel elements, but where welding could have induced false signals into the instruments, so I evacuated the site. We lost over a day of the schedule. It turned out to be the welding, but if it had been a chain reaction, the results could have been disastrous.
I tried pushing congress, as best I could, to have control room operators/supervision to be employees of the NRC, not the plants' management; just like air flight controllers are FAA employees and can SD any airport over safety regardless of the cost. That battle I lost.

    9) I worked on the testing of two Chinese coal fired units over a decade ago and it certainly doesn't pop out of my memory that they had the environmental facilities we require like bag houses to filter the exhaust.
The technology has existed for many years, so if my memory is correct, protecting the environment as US power houses must do is not being done since they are intentionally placing efficiency over the environment.

  19. 3 - Central planning is always carried out in the manner most-convenient for the central planners - not to obtain results.

6 - "I want Fauci and the rest of the federal medical bureaucracy held accountable." All of them need to be sent to Gitmo to rot; this "just cashier them" isn't sufficient and is tiresome.

8- "We will never get to the bottom of the 2020 election." We won't by inspecting machines where it was the software and the data that really mattered. We can get to the bottom of it by attacking the small fish with RICO prosecutions and then working up the ladder.

11 - One interesting side aspect of this is that in most of the places trying to pull this sort of stunt, non-resident property owners are not allowed to vote (talk about "taxation without representation"!!) and often even are fleeced with a much-higher tax rate than that faced by the locals. Can we get some decent tacticians to start pushing for redress of THIS situation as great pushback?

15 - "Mobility is freedom." In the USSR and other communist countries, you couldn't go anywhere unless you got "permission." Feel like hopping on a train this weekend to visit friends in another town a couple hours away? Fuggedabout it. The infamous "internal passport."

His most famous line was that "In America, you watch television. In Soviet Russia, television watches YOU." But another was with regard to the internal passport and no-can-travel. That in America we had American Express and their marketing slogan at the time of "Don't leave home withou it." Well, "In Soviet Russia, we have Russian Express; their marketing slogan is 'Don't Leave Home.'"

    2. And the insidious thing is that the Marxist Left cynically exploits this agony and internal sense of guilt by suggesting that a path to "redemption" is to regain your "righteousness" by supporting Leftist political positions. Plus, you then get to vent your upset feelings and hate and feel morally superior to all those stupid, racist people on the Right.

I believe the same dynamic works with people who have participated very promiscuously in the "hook up culture". In one's heart, one senses, however dimly, that your soul has been to some degree demeaned by casually treating your body in this way, and pretending your heart and soul are unscathed by this behavior. But hey, at least you're not like those hateful Christians or those racist Republicans.

The Marxist left exploits both people's good side (their desire to be supportive of black people) and people's bad side (being seduced into abortion, promiscuity, etc). It gets its hooks into people on a variety of psychological levels. The more miserable or ungrounded a person is, the easier to manipulate them.

But their tactics are not effective on people that have some spiritual grounding. Hence atheistic Communism's aggressive stomping out of every religion.

(In China, prison and organ harvesting for Fallen Gong, 1,000 concentration camps for Muslim Uyghurs, Christian churches must preach support for the Communist party and replace pictures of Jesus with pictures of Chairman Xi, etc.)
