Media uses Trump hotel as diversion from Biden's chaos

Biden ended the week with a disappointing jobs report, rising inflation, Red China rattling sabers at Taiwan, vaccine mandate protests, and his poll numbers are tanking. CNN and the rest of the losers on media row needed a squirrel to run on the field and distract attention.

House Democrats gave them one: Trump International Hotel.

Long before he ran for president Donald John Trump won a bid to transform the Old Post Office in Washington into a luxury hotel. The Government Services Administration leased the property to him rather than selling it. This gave GSA some control over it.

Being an international hotel, people from other countries rented rooms when they visited the capital. Democrats have tried to use that to trigger the emoluments clause by portraying spending a night in a hotel as a foreign bribe. The courts have laughed off this nonsense. Even Obama judges know better. But the press is run by dumbbells.

House Democrats slipped the media a story on how much money he lost on the hotel.

CNN reported, "Former President Donald Trump racked up more than $70 million in losses over a four-year period from his Washington, DC, hotel, while publicly claiming that the hotel was making more than tens of millions of dollars, according to documents released by the House Oversight Committee."

Well, he was too busy being president to run the hotel. Duh.

But while he lost money on the hotel, Democrats claim he took foreign bribes by allowing foreigners to book rooms at the hotel.

International hotel, that is.

You would think that Democrats -- of all people -- would know the difference between a bribe and an actual business transaction. It is not like he was selling paintings or using Air Force One to fly to Beijing so his son could pick up a billion-dollar "investment."

But no, reporters are acting ignorant.

After going through the hotel's losses, NBC hysterically said, "The committee also said the newly obtained documents show that from 2017 through 2020, the Trump International Hotel in D.C. received about $3.7 million in payments from foreign governments, which it said raises 'concerns about possible violations of the Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause.'"

The courts already decided the hotel does not violate the emoluments clause.

But the media acts like it hires only from the bottom half of the class.

The story does not add up. On the one hand, the media tells you he lost a lot of money -- $70 million -- on the hotel. On the other hand, the media tells you he accepted "$3.7 million in payments from foreign governments" -- hotel bills for overnight stays and the like. The $70 million in losses wipes out any foreign payment.

But these stories are not supposed to make sense. They are merely to divert attention from Biden's surrender of Afghanistan, rising inflation, pathetic jobs report, rise of Red China's military, and the covid catastrophe (more people have died from covid this year than last despite vaccinating more than half the population).

  2. As usual, the media is financially illiterate. These reports are from the LLC. They do not show any losses at all. Cash flow for the group was positive, meaning the hotel itself (not included in these reports) made money each year, paying back the investment group that ponies up all of the development costs. I did not calculate, but offhand the rate of return looks pretty good.

Then almost all of her assignments get thrown into the videotape trashcan after the MKT (Media Kabuki Theater) exercise, "sending her out on a story."

  4. They're not so much mental retards as moral retards.

The Clinton Foundation and Hunter Biden are the very definition of emoluments.

President Trump lost money being a politician. The others all become politicians to make money--at our expense.

  5. First of all, it won't work.

In all likelihood, they don't, simply because it's the way they do business.

  6. The same people that believe Trump lost that kind of money are the same people that live in the same cycle of poverty their entire lives, the kind of people who pay the minimum payment on 29% credit cards and get a 13% auto loan.

  7. If the media is complaining about Trump, then Trump probably did something bad, because media people are smart, not dumb racists.

Also, Democrats have no reasons to be ashamed to be Democrats.

Also, the media is not a Democrat plantation.

  8. The media don't understand the difference between net and gross income. Check out this supposed contradiction from the NBC article:
"...Trump reported his hotel in downtown DC brought in more than $150 million, but ... the hotel actually incurred more than $70 million in losses."
And I'd bet quite a bit that the $70 million in "losses" includes a lot of depreciation (since the building was ground-leased, it could be 100% depreciated, unlike most commercial properties).

    1. Why do many wealthy people invest in real estate? Depreciation and the magic it provides for ones taxes.

    2. Depreciation is great while you're taking it (especially the ACRS back in the Reagan days), but time comes to pay for that free lunch when you sell the property and pay the cap gains tax on the depreciated cost basis.

Of course, you can avoid that indefinitely if you engage in a Section 1031 (Starker or like-kind exchange), but the Dems in Congress want to get rid of that too--even though it's been working out for over a hundred years.

  16. Maybe we can open up a Biden can of worms with Biden’s Death March — Skeletons of Darien Gap. The Darian Gap, between Colombia and Panama, is 60 miles of pure hell that those Biden has enticed to come on to America must cross to head north. Thousands have died, been robbed, stripped of all belongings and women raped. A survivor "recounted seeing a woman and her baby fatally shot by bandits and said eight people who set out with him died.
