Taliban may take down Biden

As Afghanistan falls, so may the Biden government because the American people who watch the news are horrified by the images on ABC, CBS, and NBC each morning and evening. We wanted out of Afganistan after nearly 20 years, but we wanted to leave in peace.

This is not a peaceful transfer of power. This is a real insurrection, and Biden helplessly flails in response.

Biden's interview with former Clinton White House spokesman George Stephanopolous was as disastrous as his speech to the nation on Afghanistan. which was as disastrous as his press conference in which he took no questions.

And all of this is as disastrous as his policy. There is no way to spin Biden's desertion of 38 million people in Afghanistan, including 15,000 Americans. We left billions in weaponry and vehicles to terrorists.

But it is the images of helpless people trying to flee Afghanistan that sticks in the public's mind. 640 people wall-to-wall in a C-17 shows just how awful this abandonment of Afghanistan is.

For once, the press is actually doing its job.

That spells trouble for Biden because the truth is not his ally.

It never was.

Last week, Biden was set to go on vacation with a big victory in Congress, as 19 RINO senators voted with him on his multi-trillion-dollar giveaway in the name of infrastructure.

Politico reported, "Watching the Senate vote tally in front of a television screen in the president’s private dining room, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pumped their fists in triumph. The linchpin of their domestic agenda had begun to fall into place."

Spend, spend, spend.

Buy those votes and reward donors.

The story said, "But as the White House was taking a giant victory lap over its domestic accomplishments, a disaster was looming on the other side of the world in Afghanistan."

That was on Wednesday, August 11. By Sunday, August 15, Biden was in trouble.

The story said, "Most of America’s top diplomats and generals were still operating under the assumption that they had ample time to prepare for a Taliban takeover of the country — it might even be a couple of years until the group was in position to regain power, many thought. Though some military officials and intelligence agencies had stepped up their warnings about the possibility of a government collapse, officials felt confident in the Afghan security forces’ strategy of consolidating in the cities to defend the urban population centers."

It is interesting that everyone agreed that Biden was turning over the country to the Taliban, which raises the question of why he left war materiel and the like behind. They expected a Fall of Kabul eventually. Why did they not learn from the Fall of Saigon, which happened when he was a senator?

Disasters have consequences.

Even Never Trumpers cannot blame President Trump for Biden's calamity.

Rich Lowry wrote, "Joe Biden did to himself what his opponents couldn't — shredded his own credibility in a high-profile, hugely consequential matter that won't be forgotten.

"No memos from the desk of Donald J. Trump, no RNC talking points, no right-wing Twitter memes or excoriating floor speeches by Republican senators possibly could have had the effect on Biden of Biden himself selling and defending his Afghanistan policy in terms instantly discredited by unforgettable and horrifying images on the ground this week."

What Lowry overlooked is that there have been no Democrat talking points.

There is no water for Lowry and his fellow travelers to carry.

But Lowry holds out hope. He wrote, "Afghanistan, unless it gets much worse, won't kneecap Biden's presidency. The public is ambivalent about the war, and other events will intervene. But the blow to Biden's credibility will remain.

"His next big priority, the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill, is not a modest measure. It is an unprecedentedly large spending bill with unforeseeable consequences. Will people believe Biden's assurances that there will be no downsides to the bill, only wondrous effects, after seeing what became so quickly of his assurances that there would be no downsides in Afghanistan? Will the handful of swing Democrats in the House and the Senate be as willing to follow his public line?

"Then, there are crises yet to come. Biden won't be as believable if there's a showdown with Iran or China.

"His talk of fearless truth-telling has proved, true to form, to be just talk."

I do not know about that. People want to believe their president. Johnson's loss of credibility cost him the presidency in 1968. Nixon's loss of credibility cost him the presidency in 1974.

And the situation in Afghanistan is horrifying.

The New York Post reported, "Harrowing footage from Kabul’s international airport shows desperate Afghans attempting to flee their country by any means necessary — even handing children to US soldiers on the other side of the airport wall in the hope of getting them on evacuation flights.

"The nonprofit organization Rise to Peace posted a series of video clips of the chaos Tuesday. The footage shows a mass of humanity outside Hamid Karzai International Airport, some of them waving passports and other identification documents.

"The initial clip shows a man being helped over barbed wire by a pair of American soldiers. A series of pops can be heard in a second clip, which Rise to Peace claimed was exploding tear gas canisters utilized in an effort to keep the crowd back.

"In a third, longer clip, a man and a pre-teen girl boost themselves up on the wall to talk to a pair of U.S. soldiers. Eventually, a woman clad in traditional dress pulls herself up to the top of the wall as well, and one of the soldiers reaches down to pull the girl over the wall before the video cuts out."

I get that none of this will matter in the 2024 election.

The question is whether Biden survives till Labor Day?

    2. It depends somewhat on how Biden is relieved. My guess that the supremes will have to say if she can act both as VP (and President of the Senate) as well as the President. I'd think not, but who knows. Assuming she cannot - Mitch McConnell will be naming the next VP, but he will hold the keys to anyone passing the Senate.

    3. I suspect they will make an acting appointment pending confirmation and this will vote for itself.

    4. I suspect an acting appointment could act as VP, but seriously doubt they could act as president of the Senate without confirmation by the Senate.

  7. If the Taliban leadership were smart, they would do all they can to keep the current White House patsy in power, including repatriating all Americans currently stuck there. If the 2022 and 2024 elections go against the Democrats, there is no guarantee that a Republican successor won't be out for blood.

  8. I think we are stuck with Biden through the next election. Kamala Harris as president is 10 times worse than Biden and Obama. And as J in StL said, a 50-50 Senate will not confirm Harris. Our only savior will be to take the House and Senate in 2022.

    2. Given Biden’s age and medical history, it’s a reasonable possibility that the stress of this situation brings about his exit (stroke or other medical issues) by year end 2021. Seems unlikely he can make four years. Younger men age rapidly as POTUS and Biden is hardly a younger man.

    3. JfC... Yes the presidency has a way of aging presidents, except Trump because unlike politicians, Trump was used to stress and 15 hour work days...
However, Biden only works about 10 hours per week so it might not affect him as it did others

    2. Out here in Cal-unicornia, the Dims are testing new election-stealing tactics to save Gov. Newsom from his well-deserved recall election.

Two new ones that expand on existing vote-by-mail fraud are:
      (1) trick holes in the envelopes - if you put your ballot in the envelope the natural way, a YES vote (to recall Newsom) shows through the hole, so the union postal worker or election official can just toss it in a shredder.

      (2) new "download your ballot" program - being sold as a defense against the Delta Variant. You can stay in your hovel and print out your ballot (as many times as you wish, heh heh). Then vote NO to keep Newsom in office as many times as you want!

As Don pointed out, in 1968 LBJ lost his credibility and decided not to run for re-election.

At the time, LBJ's loss of credibility was called "the Credibility Gap".

Rich, give it up. Your case for Biden is hopeless. Biden will screw everything up. Look at the border, look at his energy policy & energy prices, look at his crazed spending spree. Biden will screw EVERYTHING up because he isn't smart enough to care about his legacy and his handlers are doing anything they can to keep the party's crazy left wing happy.

Of course he will. No need to imitate Rachel Maddow circa 2016.

"The question" is WHY is the press suddenly doing its job? Sure, they love compelling video to generate clicks. But one senses that they are truly, if slowly, becoming willing to point out that Biden is a dope.

And it's not to get Biden removed. I think they are switching gears to go even more all-in with China, and they are now becoming more willing to rip the USA in new ways... even saying the Dem POTUS is a buffoon.
