Global cooling is the problem

Willie Wei-Hock Soon is a Malaysian astrophysicist and aerospace engineer employed as a part-time externally funded researcher at the Solar and Stellar Physics Division of the Harvard–Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

He has taken a look at that big yellow thing in the sky, and he does not like what he sees.

The light from the sun is dimmer today than it was 40 years ago. It is a cyclical thing. But that does not diminish the threat to the Earth.

Strange Sounds reported that Soon said, "what we predict is that the next 20-30 years will be cold. It will be cold, so it will be a very interesting thing for the IPCC to confront."

The IPCC is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a UN bureaucracy that promotes the fully discredited Global Warming hoax.

Soon, of course, pointed out that global cooling is a far greater source of concern than global warming.

He said, "We will have a lot more problems were the planet to cool rather than warm."

He also said, "If you want to face a serious problem, worry about an ice age; never worry about global warming."

History shows this is true. Societies flourish in warm weather, in part because the good weather improves the crops.

Sunspot activity has fallen off from the hyperactivity of the 1990s and early 2000s. More sunspots, more sun, higher temperatures. Carbon dioxide has scant effect on this.

Forbes noticed the drop in sunspots last year, and reported, "While we on Earth suffer from coronavirus, our star—the Sun—is having a lockdown all of its own. Spaceweather.com reports that already there have been 100 days in 2020 when our Sun has displayed zero sunspots.

"That makes 2020 the second consecutive year of a record-setting low number of sunspots."

The problem goes back to August 2008 when there were zero sunspots.

Solar activity is cyclical.

But this cycle is less active than previous ones.

This was predicted by physicist Leona Woods Marshall Libby 40 years ago in an interview the Los Angeles Times published in 1979. Among her many life accomplishments was developing a way to carbon date trees to retrieve climate data from centuries ago.

As I wrote back in my newspaper days, "In 1979 -- when the scientific consensus was global cooling -- Dr. Libby forecast a rise in temperatures until the year 2000 when it would get colder again for the next 50 years.

"'Easily one to two degrees,' she told the Los Angeles Times. 'And maybe even three or four degrees. It takes only 10 degrees to bring on an Ice Age.'

"The first half of her prediction proved true. Temperatures peaked in 1998."

We are not doomed by the weather.

But we are doomed by the socialists and fascist who have politicized weather in an effort to waste trillions of dollars on unnecessary technology designed to avoid producing carbon dioxide, which along with water is one of the two most essential ingredients to life on this planet.

The third thing needed (and indeed, the most important) is the sun.

You know, that big yellow thing in the sky that the IPCC ignores.

  1. There are numerous cycles which impact our weather. The sun isn't the only thing creating a cycle. Every planet in our solar system exerts a pull on earth. Just like the moon causes tides, those planetary attractions move us further and closer to the sun at times. Get Jupiter and Saturn pulling us away and there will be cooling during that part of the year. Then, when we are on the opposite side of the sun, it will pull us toward that heavenly hot box. The guys who do weather for the farmers almanac figured it out a long time ago.

Ah, no. At least not far enough to change our average planetary temperature. Our net orbital velocity controls how far we are from the sun, period.

The primary driver for global temperatures is, and always has been, total solar insolation. We just started a grand solar minimum, and can expect temperatures to decline over the next 30+ years.

We are in an Ice Age, and have been for 3 million + years. Ice Ages make up about 10% of the Earth's history, and for most of the time are about 10-15 degrees colder than today. Within that Ice Age, we are about 40,000 years (nearly the entirety of Homo Sapiens' history) into an inter glacial period. Those make up about 10% of Ice Ages. The rest of the time, the Earth has been 10-15 degrees hotter than today. Oh, by the way - the inter glacial period is about due to end.

Not to panic. It will probably be a few thousand more years before that happens. In the meantime, use of fossil fuels will end in about 20 years. Declining prices for utility scale solar will make it cheaper, in about 10-12 years, to manufacture clean burning carbon neutral substitutes for gas, diesel, and jet fuel from just seawater and electricity. It will take another 8-10 years to build enough factories globally to replace traditional fossil fuels with superior synthetics which cost less, and those will only be used in about the 20% of applications where solar and batteries (which will be cheaper yet, where practical) just don't cut it. No threat to our legacy equipment, no threat to northern places with no winter sun, no threat to our climate.

By 2050, CO2 levels will be going down globally thanks to Global Greening - for free.

The change has occurred because all the scaremongering has made large swathes of children completely hysterical and scientists have pushed back against the misuse of their research to the extent that it doesn't even reflect reality.

  17. There is another argument on climate change as put forth by Professor Valentina Zharkova who gave a presentation of her Climate and the Solar Magnetic Field hypothesis at the Global Warming Policy Foundation in October, 2018. But the media and Democrats ignore such information.
Valentina Zharkova is a Professor in Mathematics at Northumbria University. She has a BSc/MSc in Applied Mathematics and Astronomy, a Ph.D. in Astrophysics, certificate in project management
Reportedly Zharkova was one of the few that correctly predicted solar cycle 24 would be weaker than cycle 23 — only 2 out of 150 models predicted this. Her models have run at a 93% accuracy and her findings suggest a Super Grand Solar Minimum is in the cards beginning in 2020 and running for 350-400 years. Another little Ice Age.

  25. I've been writing about this for years now. We're coming up on a solar minimum. The Russians have been talking about this for years now.

Most of these cycles are known. Just like this year we're in an El Nino weather pattern. That's why we have two cyclones in the Pacific, and none in the Atlantic. It's funny how none of this is taught in schools anymore. But it's in a freaking Farmers Almanac. The Pacific is warmer during El Nino.

What I found most interesting was the Global Dimming crowd. They were worried that particulate matter was going to cause a decrease in Earth's temperatures because of a reduction in sunlight reaching the surface. The funny part was, Global Dimming follows the same logic as Global Warming!

This was my point as a kid in school. You can't claim that particulate matter in the atmosphere blocks light from coming in, making it cooler, but also claim it holds more heat in. Not unless it's moving around and allowing more sun to reach the surface at times, and then moving back to block the heat release.

Besides we know it's BS because what ever happened to the hole in the ozone layer? You don't hear about that at all. It's because it's was something happening too far away, they couldn't sell that well.

And the same people who are pushing Global Warming are the same people who pushed Global Cooling in the 1970s --using the same data!

Blaming it on man is a crock. There are changes in the planet, we know that from recent history. There are changes long before the industrial revolution. We know this as well.

The way to know is BS is to look at the proposed solutions. If it has anything to do with taxing developed countries to help emerging countries, it's a fraud! Oh, that's been the answer to all proposed "Climate Change" issues thus far...

I think man made climate change is a losing battle. I hope they do bring it up again, because nobody's falling for it. You can't tax volcanoes...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are some who claim that low sunspot activity is correlated with high volcanic activity. If true, then the increased volcanic particulate in the atmosphere could be the primary cause of the cooling.

      Delete
    2. We know that there have been cooling periods before because of volcanic activity.

It could be related, who knows?

I've often wondered if there's a correlation between the moon's apogee and perigee and earthquakes. I was trying to work out data from the USGS data and moon cycles. But that was 20 years ago. My Excel skills are much better now. I might look at it again!

That is a truly KEY point - we are 3+ million years into an Ice Age, within which we are 40,000+ years into an interglacial "intermission" from the deep freeze. Today's temperatures represent less than 1% of the Earth's total history, and are the LEAST likely to be "normal."
