The Olympics through woke eyes

Other than hoping a certain women's soccer team loses, I don't care about the Olympics but in surfing the news, it is hard to miss. And the Washington Post coverage looks like a doctoral thesis in Critical Race Theory.

First up is surfing.

They added it as a sport, and why not? It is the sport of Endless Summer.

For some reason, the Post's editors believe it is an American sport. Maybe it is all that Beach Boys music. That's speculation. What I do know is it ran a piece by Texas A&M assistant professor Thomas Blake Earle, "Centuries of U.S. imperialism made surfing an Olympic sport."

Yankee Imperialism.

Earle wrote, "The Olympic movement has faced criticism for corruption, scandals and the tacit endorsement of governments that regularly violate the human rights of their citizens.

"The history of surfing similarly shows that the sport is embedded in a history of imperialism. Surfing, much like the Olympics itself, would not exist as it does independent of how nations use sports as a tool of international relations."

Polynesians invented surfing about 15 centuries ago. Hawaiians later invented standing on surfboards. Americans popularized surfing.

This is that cultural diversity the Post and others keep pushing. What is the point of cultural diversity if we eventually rename it cultural appropriation.

His claim that surfing would not exist if nations did not use sports as a tool of international relations is wrong because surfing existed long before Christopher Columbus discovered a couple of continents west of Europe and east of Asia. October 12, 1492, was a day the Earth changed forever.

Earle is an example of the civic cynicism that newspapers run because he showed more ignorance than insight.

He was not alone.

Sportswriter Candace Buckner of the Post dragged racism into the decision by gymnast Simone Biles to drop out of the Olympics. Biles is burnt out. Her fear of failure exceeds her hopes for winning. At 24 she does not have the hunger she had at 16. They call it women's gymnastics but all the champions seem to be teens.

Buckner reduced Biles to the color of her skin by writing that for black women, "Simply being great isn’t good enough."

Buckner also is a black woman. I notice that many black women writers adopt the tone of speaking for all black women. It is a peculiarity that I do not notice among white males. I could no more speak for Biden than I could speak for Donald Trump.

But Buckner can speak for all great black women.

To read the Post, one would believe that the Olympics games are Yankee Imperialism that oppress black women.

Which is why I do not recommend reading the Post.

  1. Buckner - like all her fellow racists - fails to understand their own hypocrisy.

That increasing numbers of Americans are realizing that she and her fellow racists are accusing them of being racists for no other reason than their skin color, is a sign that the insanity of the radical left is reaching terminal velocity. The next step is the crash.

It seems to me, that we could apply the same standard to Basketball which was invented in Springfield, MA or to Baseball which was invented in the USA, and Skateboarding which is a California sport.

These wokesters waste our time with their petty rants that benefit nobody but their small cabal!

    1. You'd be surprised how many other countries claim that they invented baseball. Even Romania (really) does.

    3. They made a sport out of throwing telephone poles around too if I’m not mistaken.

My dad, who is Irish, always said the Irish gave the Scots the bagpipes, and they still haven’t seen the humor in them…

    4. Not only did the Irish give the Scots bagpipes, but also kilts and whiskey, which is Gaelic for "water of life."

  10. I suspect that all Earle knows about surfing and American imperialism is what he picked up wathcing Apocalypse Now.

  11. Which is funny Yancey, because there was a huge scene that they cut from apocalypse now that mirrored the original book that showed French imperialism… So yeah I’m sure that whole movie is just a study in imperialism for the woke-stirs

  12. Don, unlike you, I CAN speak for Biden.

    For example:

“Hey! My pants are loaded! I need someone to unload my pants and wipe my butt! Come On Man! You know! You know! The Thing!”

    You’re welcome.

  13. Tomorrow's featured Olympic baseball contest will be Team U.S.A. vs. Team Israel, and it will seem like a major league game with the U.S.A. lineup featuring Matt Kemp and Todd Frazier and Israel's lineup including Ian Kinsler and Danny Valencia.

  16. Isn't it great (otherwise why have goofy events like surfing - and who was around to document the invention of surfing 15 centuries ago before literacy in Polynesia?) that viewership is declining? Doesn't that meanthat Imperialist view points are also declining? Let the market - also known as the True Voice of the People - prevail.
