Highlights of the News

Anticipation hands.

ITEM 1: The Journal of the American Medical Association listed the top 11 causes of deaths in the USA in 2020. The top 10 was expanded to 11 this year to include covid.

Deaths jumped by more than 500,000 to a record 3,358,814.

Covid accounted for 345,323 deaths.

Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death at 690,882, followed by cancer at 598,532, and then covid.

Suicides were down.

That surprised me. Overdose deaths, traffic fatalities, and homicides did not make the top 11.

ITEM 2: Delta's CEO denounced Georgia's election laws, which includes a ban on politicking within 150 feet of the voting booth. Apparently Delta believes people will die of thirst waiting in line because of this.

Marco Rubio tweeted, "Dear Delta:

"You are business partners with the Communist Party of China.

"When can we expect your letter saying that their ongoing genocide in Xinjiang is 'unacceptable and does not match Delta’s values'?"

Ouch.

Suddenly the same liberals who opposed the tax break are defending it.

ITEM 3: Fox reported, "Biden says he'd 'strongly support' MLB moving All-Star game out of Atlanta over Georgia election law."

Pretty much, this is an order from the president to move the game.

If Georgia is so evil, why does he not order CNN to move its headquarters from Atlanta?

ITEM 4: NBC reported, "The Texas Senate in the early morning hours Thursday passed a package of election bills that would put new restrictions on voting in the state.

"The final version of the Senate Bill 7 is not yet online for review, but the original bill banned overnight early voting hours and drive-thru early voting, while restricting how election officials handle mail voting."

Hmm.

Without reading the bill, NBC condemned it as restrictions on voting.

Apparently the Atlanta Journal Constitution didn't bother reading Georgia's law either. Opinion first, facts later.

ITEM 5: The New York Times reported, "United Airlines said it will start hiring pilots again, the latest sign that the travel industry is recovering from the pandemic.

"In a memo to pilots on Thursday, Bryan Quigley, an executive in charge of flight operations, said United would start by hiring the roughly 300 pilots who either had a conditional job offer last year or whose start dates had been canceled because of the pandemic."

Operation Warp Speed begins to pay dividends.

ITEM 6: The Associated Press reported, "The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously upheld federal regulators’ decision to ease ownership limits on local media, rejecting a claim that the change would hurt minority and female ownership.

"The court said the Federal Communications Commission acted reasonably in 2017 when it modified rules that predated the internet.

"The old rules prohibited a single entity from owning a radio or TV station and a daily newspaper in the same media market. They also limited how many radio and TV stations one company could own in a single market and restricted the number of TV stations a company could operate in one media market."

The argument against the new rule was a straw man.

Under the old rules, white women and minorities didn't own that many stations despite being given preference.

ITEM 7: The Blaze reported, "Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, has been more than happy to speak his mind on a multitude of topics whenever he believes there might be even the most tangential coronavirus connection.

"He has warned against going to holiday gatherings, attending sporting events, living life without face masks even if vaccinated, allowing maskless kids to play together, and anything else that tickles his fancy.

"But he has been strangely silent about the current border crisis, where our Border Patrol is being overrun by thousands of illegal aliens surging into the U.S. The migrant crisis has raised COVID-19 questions in the minds of many observers.

"How many of these illegals are positive for the virus? Is our government even bothering to test them? Have they released known COVID-positive migrants into the country?

"It turns out that thousands of migrants have been released into the U.S. without evidence of ever having submitted to a COVID-19 test, the New York Post reported."

There is nothing strange about his silence. The things he favors -- mostly peaceful protests, funerals for certain people, and crossing the border illegally -- do not spread the virus.

The things he dislikes -- Trump rallies, holiday parties, and voting in person -- do.

It is uncanny how that works.

ITEM 8: The Intercept set up a straw man, "Conservatives are obsessed with nonexisting children. This is nothing new: The paranoia is a central tenet of the modern American right. They worry about a zygote or embryo as if it were already a child (it is not). Then there was the whole generation of nonexistent children whose brains turned to fried eggs on marijuana. The murderous Satanic children. The black superpredator children were a powerful racist fantasy."

Fact check: 1. No one says a zygote is already a child. 2. The fried eggs was a TV ad not meant to be literal. 3. Drugs, not marijuana, were the subject. 4. The last two Democrat presidential nominees called black criminals super-predators.

The Intercept then said, "More recently, the right has taken up the cause of another sort of non-existing child: the children who are coerced into becoming trans; the so-called biological male children who pretend to be girls to play sports, and the other little girls on the team who are devastated by this; the children getting gender-affirming surgery or other irreversible medical interventions; and several variants on these non-existing kids."

Non-existent? NPR reported on a 3-year-old transgendering. The child had not reached the age of reason. The kid might not be potty trained.

Liberals are in denial that manipulating a child's hormones and destroying his genitalia are not child abuse.

How sad that we must share society with liberals.

ITEM 9: The Hill reported, "The Republican governor of Montana signed a bill this week banning sanctuary cities in the state.

"Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) signed the bill passed earlier this year by the state legislature requiring all cities in Montana to comply with federal immigration law."

What?

He is forcing towns to comply with federal law?

The nerve.

ITEM 10: HuffPo reported, "According to a stunning Fusion investigation, 80% of women and girls crossing into the U.S. by way of Mexico are raped during their journey. That’s up from a previous estimate of 60%, according to an Amnesty International report."

Oh my Lord.

If you support this invasion by illegal aliens, then you support rape. Child rape at that.

It is that simple.

ITEM 11: Via Glenn Reynolds, "Georgia lawmakers vote to pay soldiers wrongfully convicted of murder."

The story said, "In 1992, the soldiers, stationed at Fort Stewart, were caught up in a murder case while visiting Savannah for a bachelor party.

"Jones was to marry the next morning. The friends became lost on the way to a strip club. Around the same time, a black man named Stanley Jackson, 35, was gunned down in the street by multiple shooters described by a witness as possibly white men in a dark car. The soldiers, white men in a dark car, happened to ask a police officer for directions as she walked the witness into the police station.

"Soon the witness would falsely identify them as the killers. The witness, a black minister, would later say police, prosecutors and even fellow clergy encouraged him to identify the soldiers as the killers because of fears of a riot if no one was convicted. Black residents in Savannah at the time were outraged by the Police Department’s failure to solve crimes against black people. They alleged that detectives seemed to have a far easier time when the victims were white."

A prosecutor failed to stand up to an angry mob, which is sort of his job to do.

ITEM 12: Paul L. Caron reported, "Income Inequality In America Is Lower Than It Was 50 Years Ago."

I would hope so. We are 50+ years into the war on poverty.

After showing the facts, Caron said, "The raging debate over income inequality in America calls to mind the old Will Rogers adage: 'It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It is what you do know that ain’t so.' We are debating the alleged injustice of a supposedly growing social problem when—for all the reasons outlined above—that problem isn’t growing, it’s shrinking. Those who want to transform the greatest economic system in the history of the world ought to get their facts straight first."

Once again, facts emerge and liberals hardest hit.

ITEM 13: Just the News reported, "A majority of U.S. voters blame mass shootings not on access to firearms but on mental illness and gang activity, according to a new Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen.

"When asked, 45% of voters say mental illness is the most significant contributor to mass shootings. A further 18% cite gang violence.

"An additional 28%, meanwhile, say easy access to guns is the most notable contributing factor to those shootings. "

Mark me down with the 9% not sure.

ITEM 14: The National Pulse reported, "The Chinese Communist Party’s Cyberspace Administration of China has boasted of one of the most critical connections between the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the groups and individuals campaigning to stop President Trump and his America First agenda.

"New, bombshell admissions over China’s influence in both the United States and Europe link organizations such as the Berggruen Institute with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The Berggruen Institute first rose to national attention after co-founding the Transition Integrity Project, which advised on how Joe Biden could seize power on the back of an ostensible Trump victory.

"The news lends further credibility to election-tampering theories especially concerning Chinese Communist Party influence.

"A 2017 report effectively claims – on the CCP’s behalf – that CNN host Fareed Zakaria, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Facebook Oversight Board member Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Never Trump philanthropist Pierre Omidyar and many others “co-operate” with the CCP and its goals."

Red China helped fund Never Trump.

Big surprise.

But it is a big deal.

Call them MARC-ists.

Make America Red China.

ITEM 15: Glenn Reynolds wrote, "The FBI is very good at woke politics, not so good at catching killers."

He pointed to the Boulder Muslim who killed 8 people even though the FBI was supposed to be keeping an eye on him.

But all of government -- from the military to the CDC -- is better at looking good than getting the job done.

The argument for limited government seldom touches on the fact that the government is terrible at most of the things it does.

Our hallowed Supreme Court gave us Dred Scott, Plessy, Roe v. Wade, Kelo, and Obamacare.

ITEM 16: Standby Weird Al Yankovic.

Kane at Citizen Free Press reported, "Jeopardy! ratings dropped another 5% in Katie Couric’s second week as guest host, falling behind “Family Feud” to finish second for the first time since Alex Trebek’s last episodes.

"Couric was the game show’s first-ever female host. On March 8, she took the baton from executive producer Mike Richards, who himself grabbed it from the game’s legendary champion and current consulting producer Ken Jennings. Next up on the show’s guest-hosting rotation was Dr. Oz, who began his run last week (though many Leftists were not pleased he got the gig at all). We’ll know how he stacked up next week."

She lost on Jeopardy, baby.

Songwriters Greg Kihn and Steve Wright probably make more money off the parody than they did the original, which was a pretty good song.

ITEM 17: Axios reported, "President Biden is unlikely to propose reinstating state and local tax deductions in his second tax-and-spending package despite pressure from several fellow Democrats, according to people with direct knowledge of the planning."

Sad trombone for New York and California billionaires, while the billionaires in Texas and Florida chortle.

ITEM 18: The Tax Foundation reported, "Income tax repeal is on the agenda in West Virginia, with Governor Jim Justice (R) and Republicans in both the House and Senate releasing plans for dramatically lowering or eliminating the state’s individual income tax. Despite their shared aims, these plans represent vastly different approaches. They are not even aligned on which income should benefit from rate reductions. House Republicans propose a straightforward reduction in income tax rates, while their Senate counterparts initially exclude investment income, and the governor excludes pass-through business income as well as investment income.

"Both the governor’s proposal and the plan offered by Senate Republicans would raise the sales tax rate, broaden the sales tax base (including to business inputs), and raise certain excise taxes, to which the governor would also add the creation of a luxury tax on certain purchases. The House Republican plan phases in income tax annual rate reductions without revenue offsets. The governor would offset rate reductions with a tax shift and the Senate adopts a hybrid of the two approaches, shifting burdens away from income taxes and onto consumption taxes while using future revenue gains to phase in subsequent reductions."

Go ahead impose a luxury tax. I don't care because my mean wife still won't let me buy a Bentley.

We tax cigarettes to curb smoking.

Doesn't that mean we tax income to curb working?

ITEM 19: CNBC reported, "While other corporate giants such as Coca-Cola and Delta have been quick to oppose Georgia’s new voting law, film studios in the state have been less vocal.

"In the past, Hollywood has used the threat of production boycotts in the state to make clear its opinions about Georgia’s politics. However, this time around, studios have been largely mum on the matter, leading many to wonder why.

"Some speculate the industry is hoping the federal government will intervene, while executives express their concerns behind the scenes or pull other levers such as the use of political donations. But another factor could be timing: Amid the coronavirus pandemic, studios are simply unable to make threats that could disrupt production."

Make no mistake: Georgia is Hollywood now and has been the leader in filming in the USA for about a decade.

But Georgia should be a free state, not beholden to Corporate America, bowing and tugging its forelock like the mayor of a company town bows to the coal mine superintendent.

ITEM 20: United Press International reported, "Hispanic and Black workers continue to be underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, workforce and education trends do not appear to show an increase, according to a Pew Research Center study released Thursday."

So they should get off their asses, crack the books, and learn some math.

Instead of black studies and women's studies, white males are studying STEM.

ITEM 21: Breitbart reported, "Hawaii officials are planning to issue a vaccination passport to travel in and out of the island state as part of an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus."

It is called a vaccination card. Let's skip the melodrama and call things what they are.

FINALLY, on this date in 32 AD, Rome's puppet government in Jerusalem turned the mob against Jerusalem and got them to demand the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. His only threat to the Roman civilization was to tell people that indeed there is a life after death and that God is love.

The Guardian ran a story on October 2, 2015, which began, "Details have begun to emerge of the terrifying experience of students and staff at the Umpqua community college, where 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer shot and killed nine people and injured at least seven others.

"Harper Mercer died in a shootout with police who responded to calls about an active shooter at 10.38 am on Thursday."

The headline read, "Oregon college shooting: 'He asked are you Christian? Then he shot and killed them.' "

I ask myself sometimes if I were the second person he asked would I be brave enough to say yes?

Sometimes I answer correctly, and other times I am ashamed of myself.

Gee Surber just can't make up his mind today. First he credits LBJ's welfare state for reducing inequality.

Then he talks about 'limited government'! So he holds conflicting views on the same day.

His grave error is making inequality the same thing as poverty. They have nothing in common.

Gee where in the Constitution is the welfare state authorized to fight inequality or poverty?

    Crickets.

Is a welfare state compatible with limited government?

    Crickets.

  2. "Rome's puppet government in Jerusalem turned the mob against Jerusalem.."

    Biblical fact check: False.

Mat 27:21 Pilate said, "I have Barabbas and Jesus. Which one do you want me to set free for you?" The people answered, "Barabbas!"
Mat 27:22 Pilate asked, "So what should I do with Jesus, the one called the Messiah?" All the people said, "Kill him on a cross!"
Mat 27:23 Pilate asked, "Why do you want me to kill him? What wrong has he done?" But they shouted louder, "Kill him on a cross!"
Mat 27:24 Pilate saw that there was nothing he could do to make the people change. In fact, it looked as if there would be a riot. So he took some water and washed his hands in front of them all. He said, "I am not guilty of this man's death. You are the ones who are doing it!"

So its crystal clear Pilate knew Jesus was innocent. It was the Jewish people who said....

Mat 27:25 The people answered, "We will take full responsibility for his death. You can blame us and even our children!"

Surber clearly needs to dust off his Bible one day. Today would be a good day to do so!

    1. Jesus began his public ministry in his hometown of Nazareth.

Luk 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read.

Luk 4:27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian."
Luk 4:28 When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath.
Luk 4:29 And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff.
Luk 4:30 But passing through their midst, he went away.

And for the rest of his life his enemy was the Jewish priesthood of Israel who plotted to kill him many many times. The Romans left him alone.

Who paid Judas in silver? The Jews not the Romans!

The same with the apostles. Their chief enemies were the Jews not the Romans.

I'd be glad to see by chapter and verse which say that the Romans "turned the mob" against Jesus. Just one verse!

      I won't hold my breath.

    4. It wasn't the Jews who nailed Jesus to the cross. He CHOSE to walk that road out of his love for you and me. Down the Via Dolorosa all the way to Calvary. It was me who put him on that cross. My sin! He took my place. If he didn't die for you, you have no place in heaven. You cannot pay for your sin.

    5. BJ54: the history of Jesus’s life and death is recorded in the gospels. The Jewish leaders hated him because He claimed to be God; more and more people were following Him, especially after He raised Lazarus from the dead; and they were afraid of losing their power and prestige. All this is explicitly stated in numerous passages. He had never done anything to cause the Romans to see Him as a threat, and when Pilate asked Him if He was the King of the Jews, Jesus said that His kingdom was not of this world.

You are implying that the Romans wanted Jesus dead and used the Jewish leaders to accomplish their purpose, but there is no evidence for that position.

    6. Clearly several of you don't really believe what the Bible says. Otherwise you'd quote chapter and verse to support your views.

People seldom do. They prefer their own opinions over the Word. Or maybe they think the Bible is anti-semitic. I don't really care.

But to completely reverse the story as Surber did is telling. Clearly he has some agenda there.

When you want to tell people what the Bible reveals to us all start or end with chapter and verse. Absent that it carries no weight at all.

Instead people love to add or subtract from the clear words of the Bible to reconcile it with their opinions. God deals with that too:

Rev 22:18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book,
Rev 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

Israel was disinherited once they sent Christ to die. Jesus warned them all about it many times. He also said the kingdom would be taken from them and given to others.

Mat 21:43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits.

Today millions of Christians pretend He never said that. Just ask BJ Doug Don and Jeremy.

    7. Joh 19:12 From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar."

Oops! And I thought Pilate 'got the mob' after Him.

Joh 19:13 So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha.
Joh 19:14 Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"
Joh 19:15 They cried out, "Away with him, away with him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

Gee it sure sounds like Pilate let the crowd decide what to do with this troublemaker Jesus.

What He does not do is wink at sin, thus we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. G-d wants people to know the sacrifices Jesus made on our behalf were accepted.

    1. Okay, I'll give you mine. :-)

Basically, all the world's bad actors are salivating over the chance that's been given to them to run amok. Think of Ukraine with respect to Russia the same way that you can think of Taiwan with respect to China (and yes, Russia often thinks of Ukraine in the same way, as a breakaway province).

A core problem with Ukraine on that count is that much of this amounts to an effort to reverse the changes of 1648 and 1709 in that regard. And Ukraine got stuck with the oligarch problem after the ussr broke up - basically, same game all over the old ussr, some ruthless guys seized the old state enterprises.

obozo and sniffy were weak and encouraged this sort of adventurism by vlad - and sniffy personally destroyed the anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine on behalf of his cokehead son (who had been hired by Burisma for exactly that purpose). It's also why the PDJT phone call was made and caused such a false furor in DC - he was trying to get the next go at anti-corruption going there with the new President.

obozo and sniffy sent only blankets and band aids; PDJT actually sent real stuff (like anti-tank missiles) and the put the kibosh on vlad and co. Now with silly sniffy and his zombie band back in charge, it's open season on Ukraine, Taiwan, and lots of other places.

      Rigged elections have consequences...

(BTW, there's only one good natural harbor around the entire Black Sea - Sevastopol; much of the Russian interest in Crimea is based on this simple reality.)

    5. Methinks that it's mostly posturing by swell-headed twerps with no negotiating skills (and no social skills either). They have a narrative to protect (see below), plus they perfer feel-good spruiking to actual substance.

Russia attacked Ukraine, and obozo/sniffy sent blankets and bandages. PDJT refused to publicly insult Putin (which is a stupid thing to do if you then have to sit in private with someone - anyone - and negotiate with them), but sent actual weapons to help Ukraine defend itself - and the Russian advance stopped.

But keep in mind that they have a narrative to protect about "Russia" and who vlad prefers.

Remember how back in 2008/9, the mocha messiah was upset that GWB was being too hardball with the Russians (who invaded Georgia in 2008) - and how he sent shrillary to Moscow with that silly, mistranslated "reset" button prop. (And how obozo sniffed at Mitt in a 2012 debate, when Mitt ID'd Russia as a rival - which led to the infamous obozo reply about the 1980s wanting their foreign policy back). And consistent with all that, obozo did little to help Ukraine when-and-after Russia attacked in 2014.

But the "russian collusion" narrative required that the past be extensively revised. All of the above went down the memory hole. Now, the problem was that vlad wanted DJT to win - because he loved Republicans and hated Democrats.

Why? (And Frontline did an entire two-hour special as propaganda for this back in 2017 - filled with old clinton-era functionaries spouting the same b.s. in sequence.)

Well, you see, back in the 1990s, the clintons and their cohorts had just been too persistently hard on the Russians, pressing them to adopt "democracy." The Russians hated that, and preferred to deal with Republicans - who just wanted to do business and weren't fussy about things like "democracy" and "human rights." (That's all totally made-up b.s., but this is what the propaganda shills were pushing). And vlad personally hated the Democrats and the Clintons in pointed particular because of this - and so he personally intervened to help DJT because of his personal hatred of the Clintons for too-vigorously promoting "democracy" in Russia back in the 1990s.

That's all a pack of lies, but they are totally overinvested in it - so they keep acting today as if all of their own b.s. (above) is true...

  15. Item 18: If WV wants to compete with the income tax—free states for people moving out of high-tax states, then WV needs to be income tax—free. Florida has no state income tax on individuals. Since there is no state income tax, there is no state income tax return, and therefore no complicated rules about what is taxable and what is deductible. Flotida’s corporate income tax applies only to actual corporations, not pass-through small businesses and LLCs.

WV is moving in the right direction in reducing its state income tax, but until you hit zero, you’re still at a disadvantage.

BTW, Florida is also a right-to-work state, with no “hidden” employment tax called “union dues.”

Item 30: “So they [blacks and Hispanics] should get off their asses, crack the books, and learn some math.” If they did that, they’d get a beat-down from their homies for “acting white.” (“Acting white” is better known as “preparing for success.”)

Finally: A huge majority of shootings happen in “gun-free zones,” like school campuses. If it were anywhere else, if I were the second person the shooter asked that question to, he would be staring down the barrel of my 9mm as I said, “Why, yes, as a matter of fact, I am.”

  18. A lot of us here keep restating the obvious, which is all the virus numbers are politically-motivated fraud. Unfortunately, complaining is just about all we can do. Any effective escalation on our part will land us in jail. Our governors, on the other hand, can step up BIG TIME by invoking the 10th Amendment. They do not need Supreme Court approval to follow the Constitution. And, they can do this without going to jail. So, I ask for the one-hundredth time, where are the governors in America's fight for survival? DeSantis is off to a good start, but he's cherry picking issues. The 10th Amendment is a blanket solution and one that should encourage the most popular support. I suspect RNC consultants have been assigned to talk down red state governors from such action, but it's only a hunch. It appears expecting our senators and congressmen to do the right thing is a lost cause. They're on the deep state, DC merry-go-round, so governors are the next, and best, line of defense. We're waiting...

    2. Interesting observation. How would most people feel about their neighbors having lots and lots of freedom? The conversation would go like this, "But, what about this?" Or, "What about that?" "Don't we need to control that?" It's a strange concept to contemplate in what the saying says is the the land of the free. Yes, people with
freedom must be trusted. That's where personal responsibility rears its ugly head. Freedom without that doesn't work. It's freedom's flip side. Unfortunately, responsibility is a burden and the Bolsheviks in government are only too happy to help you dump as much of it as you wish. That's their basic sales pitch and it's a strong one. After all, who doesn't want to win the lottery? So, freedom lovers must be prepared to exercise it responsibly. At least that's what I was taught in school a long, long time ago.

  19. 1:
I sound like a broken record repeating this but: before 2020, if people died from heart or lung disease, gunshots, vehicle fatalities etc, that's how their cause of death was listed EVEN IF THEY HAD THE FLU.
With the China flu, however, all that went out the window. No matter how a person died, as long as they had tested positive, they died of the China flu. (and don't get me started on the accuracy of pcr tests)

Deborah Birx even said during a press conference, that people didn't even have to be tested!

So in the end, the China flu mortality has been greatly exaggerated, other cod's have been absorbed by the wu-flu (hell, seasonal influenza and colds dropped 98% according to cdc), and the only reasons that this flu has been pushed in our faces unlike any other flu season is money and political power.
