Wednesday's storming of the Capitol was not a riot or an incursion or an insurrection. Nothing was torched. No one was beaten. The only violence came from the police who shot and killed an unarmed woman.
Oh some tables were turned over.
You know who else turned tables over?
This guy.
And for the same reason.
Cheaters.
Next time, bring a whip of cords.
Next time, bring a whip of cords.
Readers send me stuff all the time and so far, I have kept up. One reader sent me a quote from Mark Steyn from 7 years ago: "The pen is not mightier than the sword if your enemy is confident you will never use anything other than your pen."
Conservatives have always been the guys with the pen, which brings me to John Adams and Ben Franklin. During the American Revolution, we sent them to Paris to beg for aid from the French. Adams was a dutiful lawyer. He wrote letters by day and chilled with his wife at night.
Doctor Franklin was a rock star. He discovered electricity. He wore a beaver hat, something he would never do back home but he wanted to make an impression. Did he ever. He partied all night. Well, 2 AM in Paris is 9 PM in Philadelphia, so technically he was early to bed.
The partying cheesed Adams off, as one could imagine. And Franklin succeeded, which cheesed off Abigail Adams. I am not knocking the Adamses. They were true patriots, if a little stiff. And their son spoke against slavery and won the Amistad case before Lincoln came along. We are talking about the best of the best people when we discuss the Family Adams.
But Franklin, a wordsmith, also knew the shortcomings of words. And so he scanned the scene and saw how best to get to the aid. Adams knocked on the door and got no answer. Franklin went around back and was let in.
Which brings us to Wednesday. President Trump had banged and banged and banged again on the front door. The Supreme Court would not let him in.
OK, then let us try the back way in.
Why not?
Riots in city after city this summer worked for Black Lives Matter. Why not us?
As the reader said, "I have a very negative reaction to assertions that -- assuming Trump actually did instigate Capitol Hill chaos today (which I didn't watch) -- he is to be condemned. After the outrageous treatment this human being has had to bear up under for four solid years, I wouldn't blame him if he called and addressed a joint session of Congress and then -- with the door locked from the outside to keep the audience from bolting -- stood in front of them for 45 minutes repeatedly saying nothing more than fuck you."
That would be the most appropriate State of the Union speech in history.
It seems everyone in the world is dumping on President Trump, who is our proxy. The Wall Street Journal wants him to resign because someone tipped over Nancy's table. Shocking.
The reader linked a column by Steven Hayward, "The Tragedy of Donald Trump."
He wrote, "In my casual canvass of social media and other screens, I am struck by how many people who have supported Trump for the last four years have found today’s events over the line."
Perhaps it is battle fatigue. Losing is not a pleasant experience. I will cut them some slack, and also I will cut them loose.
My reader also showed me a lengthy reply to Hayward's piece, which was the best explanation I have read of Trumpism.
The comment said, "Trumpism and everything associated with it has always been an effect, not a cause.
"Today was the result of the riots all summer long. It was the result of the storming of the Senate during the Kavanaugh hearings. It was the result of the utter chaos after Trump's inauguration. Frankly, it goes back farther than that. It was the result of Occupy Wall Street. It was the result of actual peaceful protests by the Tea Party being described as a threat to the very fabric of society.
"It was a result of four years of being told that black is white. Of having the false Russian collusion narrative shoved down our throats for three years. Of a farce of an impeachment that went down to a party line vote even though every single impeachment witness under direct questioning testified that they had no firsthand knowledge of Trump committing any impeachable offenses.
"It was the result of trying to convince us that Trump was involved in a quid pro quo while ignoring the established fact that Biden engaged in one himself. It was the result of ignoring the Hunter Biden laptop. It was the result of having to sit through a corrupt Mueller investigation. It was the result of being told repeatedly that there was no fraud in this election or any indication of it.
"It was the result of Nick Sandmann being destroyed by the media, when he did absolutely nothing wrong. It was the result of people being attacked in restaurants or on the streets merely for wearing a red hat. It was the result of years of fake racist incidents like Jussie Smollett. It was the result of many people being sick and tired of not being able to stand up and speak their mind. It was the result of years of monstrous attacks on free speech by the left.
"Today's not Trump's fault. And if you think it is, then your stupidity is incurable.
"In short, today was long overdue. Yes, it's a shame that it happened, but the shame is what led us here.
"Never Trumpers and other establishment types have been hoping for years that they could just ride this out and that Trumpism would go away. I think that's the real reason you're upset today. You've just realized that Trumpism isn't going away. This isn't a fringe movement that will just die out. It's going to get stronger, not weaker. You can either be a part of it, or get run over by it.
"Today, it seems to me that far too many have chosen to get run over. So be it.
"And yes, I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore. You don't like it? I don't give a f*ck."

Newspaperman Conrad Black cracked his whip of cords on the media.

Lefties get to air their grievances and do so all the time.
When we speak out, the media denounces us as angry, violent, racist, or whatever word salad they are serving that day. Ignore them. Let us go back to doing what we do best, and adapt.
The left won in 2008 thanks in large part to social media. We learned that and elected Donald Trump president. The left thinks they can shut us down by kicking us off social media.
My advice is don't learn to code.
Learn to ballot harvest.
Beat them at their own game.
Now excuse me while I read my new book "Whip of Cords For Dummies." It may prove useful next time.
The left and media (but I repeat myself) have been masters of narrative shifting throughout President Trump's term. His good news never got traction. If I counted all the times the left threw a hand grenade news story into the middle of a Trump Administration success it would boggle your mind.
ReplyDeleteThis is no different which leads me to believe it was instigated by people not on our (Trump's) side.
[Disclaimer: Typos and punctuation errors are not correctable without deleting a post, thus, they shall remain.]
DeleteROLCON.
DeleteA few Antifa types infiltrated the people at the Capitol, aided by a Capitol cop who opened the doors for them, saying it was ordered by Trump. They got inside and started tearing up the place, only to be stopped by the Trumplicans.
At some point, the cop was clocked with a fire extinguisher and Ashli Babbitt was murdered (let's call a spade a spade). 2 other people were also (I'm assuming here) murdered.
Bet you anything somebody saw something. The FIB says it's investigating. Just like Vegas.
At least in this case, Ed, there doesn't seem to be any substantive difference between your position (on this) and Jake's. So maybe it's time to cool it with the insults?
DeleteSave your John Lennon for another day, YokoAlex. Not in the mood.
DeleteNow that you mentioned John Lennon, I've always wanted "Trump" dubbed into his "Woman is the N of the world" comment. That's how Trump has been treated very unfairly.
Delete"Losing is not a pleasant experience." Being cheated by the entire system on which you have been taught to believe you could rely is a whole different ball-game. I would never encourage anyone to do anything unlawful. However, it must be acknowledged that there is no longer any hope of correcting the situation through the very system which has betrayed us, and other options are extremely limited. ='[.]'=
ReplyDeleteRemember Popeye?
DeleteThat's all I can stands 'cause I can stands no more.
We're at that When in the Course of human events moment and we're going to have to get our hands a little dirty.
Just like they did.
Unfortunately, given the rush to judgment about the so-called riot in the Capitol, we will never get the truth out. The SM will studiously ignore the facts, as usual when it comes to Trump, and maintain this narrative of vilification that they've engaged in ever since Trump came down the escalator.
ReplyDeleteWhat is particularly telling to me is Barr's statement. His appointment of Durham and everyone else "investigating" Spygate will end with a whimper and no indictments, very obviously.
The "rush to judgment" was intentional - and there's enough evidence that it's clear that it was a set-up for that purpose.
DeleteDid you notice how it immediately caused the phrase "election integrity" to disappear?
And it will be used going forward as a "Reichstag fire" (I know, without the fire... less damage that way) to try to justify all measure of elicit crackdowns.
The French Revolution that these people have long fantasized about will indeed be coming - but with THEM as the useless, arrogant aristocrats...
It was Barr's father who hired Jeffrey Epstein forty years ago. Barr is connected he is establishment thru and thru.
DeleteSlight disagreement, Don. A Capitol Police officer died after being bashed in the head. :( So, there was some violence and there was some damage done - broken windows and . Other than that, I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteNot dead, apparently, but he did have a stroke.
DeleteThere was some violence at Lexington and Concord, too.
Some confusion on whether he's dead or not.
DeleteWaiting for the FIB report.
Several of the violent people have been identified as antifa members. Antifa made it known that they planned to infiltrate the rally.
DeleteYes, I agree completely. The CA GOP learned from its 2018 experience and beat them at the ballot harvesting game, winning back two House seats in Orange County and planning for more in 2022.
ReplyDeleteWe are not going to win on electoral reform (restrictions on early voting, ending all-mail ballots, tightening ID requirements), so we might as well join in the fraud. Then the whole system will mercifully collapse when NO ONE trusts it.
Our mistake was attempting to fight from the top down while the enemy infiltrated all of our institutions. The fight has to pivot to the bottom. Patriots need to get on school boards and town councils and local and state legislatures. We need to find media and entertainment avenues to spread our message. If we are going to have any shot of taking back our country we have to build a foundation.
ReplyDeleteOur mistake was recognizing what the Left was doing going back to Franklin Roosevelt and his "brain trust" of salon Socialists and closet Communists.
DeleteWe thought we had checks and balances. We assumed everybody was a nice guy. We assumed we all fought WWII for the same reason.
The majority of Americans are on Trump's side. We do the work. The minority are Leftists who infiltrated education, the media, many corporations, and the Communist (no Ds or Rs anymore) party.
We tried taking the R party back, no luck. We made more of a dent Wednesday than we have since the blacklist (hate to say it, but the truth can be a bitter pill).
Time to get physical.
Bingo!
DeleteMorning all. Internet issues here this is the first ime I've had truly reliable service in about a week.
ReplyDeleteAny way I see this as the Battle of Midway as in the saga of Torpedo Squadron Eight. Inferior Aircraft, Torpedoes.put together,
they were doomed. but, they did have the effect of pulling the Japanese air patrols down on the deck to open the carriers up to the dive Bombers. which destroyed the main body of the Carrier force. We are not done, we are not finished.
We need to fight smarter and better. (like the example of California.
We do need to do a little RINO control , however.
Not Torpedo 8, but Jimmy Thach and Wade McClusky.
Delete“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.”
ReplyDelete― Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
This is where we are as a nation. The laws protect the grifters, those men who deal in favors, not goods, i.e. our politicians and government bureaucracies.
Our constitution is no longer operative, over-ridden by men determined to undermine its splendid simplicity to RESTRAIN the powers of the government.
Socialism, you can vote it in, but you will have to shoot your way out.
Socialism, you can vote it in, but you will have to shoot your way out.
DeleteNope. Socialism always runs out of money and when it does you better be ready to re-build
Don, you clearly have a fetish for Powerline. There are alternatives.
ReplyDeleteLet them go. It is way past time.
Either that or move next door to them in peaceful Minnesota (Minnesota Nice my a*s) and join them.
You won’t because your smarter than them.
Let....them....go.
We are talking about the best of the best people when we discuss the Family Adams.
ReplyDeleteIncredible. Adams attacked the news industry like no other president, save Lincoln, ever has. It was the Aliens and Sedition Act he signed into law. Yet this blogger sounds like he is ignorant of this fact.
The most controversial of the new laws permitting strong government control over individual actions was the SEDITION ACT. In essence, this Act prohibited public opposition to the government. Fines and imprisonment could be used against those who "write, print, utter, or publish . . . any false, scandalous and malicious writing" against the government.
Under the terms of this law over 20 Democratic-Republican newspaper editors were arrested and some were imprisoned.
The most dramatic victim of the law was REPRESENTATIVE MATTHEW LYON of Vermont. His letter that criticized President Adams' "unbounded thirst for ridiculous pomp, foolish adulation, and self avarice" caused him to be imprisoned.
While Federalists sent Lyon to prison for his opinions, his constituents reelected him to Congress even from his jail cell.
The Sedition Act clearly violated individual protections under the first amendment of the Constitution; however, the practice of "JUDICIAL REVIEW," whereby the Supreme Court considers the constitutionality of laws was not yet well developed. Furthermore, the justices were all strong Federalists. As a result, Madison and Jefferson directed their opposition to the new laws to state legislatures. The Virginia and Kentucky legislatures passed resolutions declaring the federal laws invalid within their states. The bold challenge to the federal government offered by this strong states' rights position seemed to point toward imminent armed conflict within the United States.
I'd have more sympathy with your stance if our present-day media moguls weren't all anti-Trump and anti-American.
DeleteAs it is, most of that useless bunch of liars are paid by China & the Globalists to smear, misrepresent, spin, and propagandize virtually every bit of news, until it's as far from the truth as can be. Some "news" they just make up out of whole cloth!
So the idea of putting these smear merchants, these traitors & seditionists in prison really doesn't strike me as all that bad of an idea.
Personally, I reckon that hanging a few of them, pour encourager les autres, would be grand! Then perhaps they'd actually report the truth instead of their lies!
Oui oui Esky! Was that guy just attempting to defend the media? "Beam me up, Mr. Speaker." Damn I miss James Traficant."
DeleteYou guys are beyond help if you thought I was defending the media when I was simply defending the Constitution and the idea that Adams was someone to respect.
DeleteYea, those scumbags ain’t prepared for what is coming their way.
ReplyDeleteThe Left has had few serious disappointments other than the 2016 election. They are so used to winning that they cannot consider we will stand up to them. Our problem is we are generally an all in or nothing people; slow to anger but so restrained in our actions. I know I am of that nature because I was a TEA Party director and did a good job of controlling the proactive portions of our group. However 6 decades ago I was constantly harassed by a bully. I tried to talk him out of continuing his actions many times, but it seemed that caused more problems. One day for some unremembered reason, I tripped off and jumped across two desks onto his back, grabbed him by the neck and was strangling him. I was very small for my age but very strong. It took 3 students to pull me off. This crazy person was never seriously harassed again.

See all my earlier comments about Wednesday being their version of the "Reichstag fire"...
DeleteBravo, Don!
ReplyDeleteWell, methinks that we can write off Kristi Noem (R-SD) as useful for the future, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteShe has a piece over at the Federalist. About the only good part is that while she makes a minor objection to the "violence" (sic?) on Wednesday, she at least points out that the big failure was the failure to condemn everything that went on last summer, making something like Wednesday inevitable.
So far, so good.
But the rest is a disaster.
She just goes on and on about how "Wow, we got kicked good!" and how Rs need to be stronger and clearer in their messages about what matters to normal people, blah blah blah. Not so much as a mention of the vast electoral fraud that just happened - not even that there's enough "belief" of it that that alone is a problem. Nope, just the old fashioned "We lost and need to go retool our messaging and outreach."
GROWL!!!!! There was nothing wrong with the "messaging." WE WON GDI!!!!! The results are fraudulent.
Anyone not telling us how we overcome future fraud is wasting our time. Mark Steyn has noted for some time that the "margin of fraud" we have to overcome keeps increasing (he had it at 5% in November and 7% in GA earlier this week). If nothing is done and nobody says anything, the margin of fraud goes to infinity.
That leaves the field open for DeSantis in 2024. He has proven himself under difficult conditions here in Florida and takes not crap from the media. To hell with Kristi.
DeletePeople need to stop being careerist about "2024." Can we get SOMEONE to stand up for us when were defrauded by the greatest political crime in American history? And to acknowledge that THAT is the root of the problems? And that we need someone who will stand up against anti-constitutional actions and orders from the illicit regime in DC from here?
DeleteThat's the kind of person we need. Can he do it?
Ric Grenell would be worthy too.
DeleteHe doesn't control anything. At this point, it has to be governor - controls a government and a territory.
DeleteDon. You are absolutely the best. Agree with EVERY word you said.....fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI am terribly disappointed with Betsy Devonshire for jumping ship to virtue signal right as the boat was pulling into the dock.
A good piece, and helpful, is by John Solomon at Just the News....put it on my blog. Our eyes are wide open and there's lots of work to do!
We need to let go of the Mr. Nice Guy to be liked and popular, and start kicking ass. Thank you for being you, Don.
And one by one they are making a record for history to show future voters who is who.
DeleteBetsy Devoss...spellcheck won't let me spell it right!
ReplyDeletequit using Google! Use duck duck go instead. your funding the opposition!!!
DeleteWhy have no leaders on the Right ever told the public how to defund Google?????
The reader’s response to Hayward sums up most of my feelings.
ReplyDeleteAnd no use discussing any issue disagreement with a liberal or Trump deserter. They can’t handle the truth.
“Tell us that the law has risen,
ReplyDeleteMake us bend beneath its sway,
Throw our leaders into prison,
Wrong us in the light of day.
Drive us to our dens, forgetting
All our woe as greed forgets,
While our weapons we are whetting
On your levelled bayonets.“
Henry Lawson
Great poem, Dave! Here's another that I like, and that seems prescient--
DeleteSo I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions "over yonder" of the war I know must come.
In the corner - not a vision - but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land,
Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.
No - no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss -
In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us!
Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that is to be,
We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea.
While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war,
Every man should own a rifle and have cartridges in store!
Henry Lawson
Using Jesus as the model it really does fit. Turning over tables happened in temples on both occasions. Jesus said his temple shall be a house of prayer.
ReplyDeleteWhile inside the DC temple prayers ended with Amen and Awomen. When we people start making the right connections?
We let them tell us no prayer in school yet Congress and the military have chaplains for prayer. Since 1963 we've let them do things like this and we did nothing much at all.
As I keep saying, I DESPISE, DETEST, and totally DISTRUST the media (especially the NYT, the WaPoo, and the TV networks. And I say again, I don't know if the media is/are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Dem Party, but it's OBVIOUS that they are in CAHOOTS.
