Highlights of the News

Just remember, a rainy day increases the odds that tomorrow will be a bright, sunshiny day.

ITEM 1: The Washington Examiner reported, "Chief Justice John Roberts won’t preside over former President Donald Trump's Senate trial, Senate sources confirmed Monday.

"Instead, Democrat Patrick Leahy of Vermont, the Senate’s president pro tempore, will oversee the proceedings against Trump, who left office on Jan. 20."

The Constitution requires the chief justice to preside over such a trial.

He swore an oath to defend the Constitution. He won't. He should be impeached.

ITEM 2: Page Six reported, "Clive Davis’s annual pre-Grammy celebration is evolving into two events this year.

"The music legend will host a two-part virtual event to replace his annual bash that’s usually held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. 'It was initially supposed to be one big party, but since the Grammys moved the date to March, Clive figured he’d throw a party in January and March,' an insider told Page Six.

"Davis’ first event will take place on Jan. 30 and feature 20 of his favorite live performances. We’re told that Davis is still sorting out his picks."

California's covid 19 restrictions apply to churches, not Hollywood parties.

Bruce Springsteen and Nancy Pelosi will be there. Ah, such a little rebel he is.

ITEM 3: The New York Times alleged, "Unions May Complicate Biden’s School Plans."

The story also alleged, "The Chicago Teachers Union said on Sunday that a majority of its members had voted to authorize a strike if the nation’s third-largest school district sought to force teachers back into school buildings."

If true, is anyone surprised?

Nothing has more discredited the teaching occupation than its unions.

ITEM 4: John Nolte wrote, "Dear Gun-grabbers, What’s Best for ‘society’ Is Not My Problem."

He made a good case about why a man should defend his home and family.

But the end of his piece was the most American reply to socialism I have read in quite some time.

Nolte wrote, "doing what’s best for you and yours is what’s best for society.

"You want world peace? You want national unity? The recipe is very simple.

"Leave the other fella be.

"Worry about yourself.

"If we focus on our own instead of the other guy, society will be healthier and safer and more vibrant than ever."

Amen.

ITEM 5: The Associated Press reported, "Mexican authorities say they have found 19 shot and burned bodies near a town across the Rio Grande from Texas in an area that has seen violent territorial disputes between organized crime groups in recent years.

"The Tamaulipas state prosecutor's office said late Saturday that the bodies were discovered along a dirt road outside Camargo after residents reported a burning vehicle. Authorities found two vehicles on fire, one containing four bodies and the other 15.

The story also said, "Camargo is a major smuggling transit point for drugs and migrants. Organized crime groups covet control of stretches of the border because they make money off everything that crosses the border."

This is human trafficking the same way slave trading was. The people are just bodies.

The blood is on the hands of Chairman Xiden and his Democrat Party, just as slavery was.

But remember: a Republican Congress enabled this by refusing to fund the wall when it had the chance in 2017.

ITEM 6: Bloomberg reported, "The U.S. Supreme Court declined a chance to further buttress religious rights during the pandemic, turning away an appeal from a Nevada church that said a federal appeals court didn’t go far enough when it eased the state’s capacity limits on houses of worship."

Don't call them church services.

Call them a Grammy party instead.

ITEM 7: The New York Times alleged, "The founders of Apollo Global Management, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, engaged in a brief power struggle this weekend over control of the firm, a rift that opened up after an inquiry revealed that one founder — Apollo’s chief executive and chairman, Leon Black — had paid $150 million to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein."

He will retire on his 70th birthday. That seems hardly unusual.

The story also alleged, "Mr. Black was expected to inform Apollo’s clients of the succession plan and the findings of the review in a letter on Monday evening, one of the people said. Mr. Harris would continue in his current role as a senior managing director, focused on the firm’s financial performance and working closely with Mr. Rowan, according to the letter, the contents of which were described to The Times. The letter was also expected to inform clients of other proposed governance changes and lay out Mr. Black’s plan to donate $200 million to charities that support gender equality and fight sex trafficking."

So no jail time. Just pay off those who "support gender equality and fight sex trafficking."

They have replaced justice with Just Us.

ITEM 8: The New York Post reported, "Target will no longer sell coconut milk made by the Thai company Chaokoh after an investigation alleged the drink is tied to forced monkey labor, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced Monday."

USA Today reported, "Don't expect to find coconut milk on Costco shelves on your next shopping trip. The retailer is the latest pledging not to stock coconut products from Thai suppliers who have been accused of using monkeys as forced labor."

But don't worry, folks.

American retailers will continue to sell Nikes and other products made by human slaves in Red China.

ITEM 9: Yahoo reported, "Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D., Ariz.) is 'against eliminating the filibuster, and she is not open to changing her mind,' according to a spokeswoman for the senator.

"The spokeswoman’s comments to the Washington Post come as the possibility of voting to end the Senate’s practice of imposing a 60-vote threshold for most legislation has moved to the forefront of conversation, as Democrats have taken control of the House, Senate and White House.

"Ending the filibuster would allow any legislation to pass with a simple majority."

Somebody wants something for her vote because there is no such thing as a moderate Democrat. See Manchin, Joe.

ITEM 10: NBC News reported, "President Joe Biden signed restrictions Monday on travel to the United States to mitigate Covid-19 transmission.

"The ban prevents most non-U.S. citizens from entry if they have recently been in South Africa, where a new strain of Covid-19 has been identified. The virus has killed more than 420,000 people and infected upward of 25 million across the U.S., according to an NBC News tracker.

"Biden additionally reinstated broader restrictions that were in effect much of the past year but were rescinded by President Donald Trump days before his term ended. The limits affect non-U.S. citizens traveling from the United Kingdom, Ireland and much of Europe in what is known as the Schengen countries, which share a common visa process. Travelers from Brazil would also be affected."

Those are majority Christian nations so this is his Christian ban.

What the press considers religious bigotry depends on the religion, doesn't it?

ITEM 11: Just the News reported, "A hypothetical Patriot Party led by former President Donald Trump would win the support of almost a quarter — 23% — of the electorate, bumping the GOP down to third place with just 17%, according to a new Just the News poll with Scott Rasmussen.

"The startling survey result comes amid reports that Senate Republican support for convicting Trump in an impeachment trial is fast eroding.

"A Trump third party could provoke a pivotal realignment in American politics. With the support of 46% of registered voters in the new poll, Democrats would reap the benefits of a fractured opposition and entrench themselves as the nation's dominant party — even without majority support."

Democrats would gladly finance this doomed Patriot Party.

ITEM 12Reuters reported, "Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned weekend protests demanding the release of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny as dangerous and illegal, as the opposition politician’s allies said they planned a similar protest for Sunday."

Maybe he can impeach Navalny.

ITEM 13: United Press International reported, " President Joe Biden signed an executive order Monday that will increase federal government spending on American businesses, which had long been a priority in his campaign.

"The White House said Biden's Made in America order will close loopholes in how domestic content is measured and increase oversight of potential waivers and domestic preference laws."

Of course, President Trump already did this in April 2017.

The press denounced him.

National Review said at the time, "This week, President Trump reiterated his commitment to his “hire American, buy American” program — a supposedly crucial element in his 'economic nationalist' program. The notion here is threefold: American companies should be forced to hire American labor; government contracts should go to American companies; American producers should be protected from domestic competition by revoking or altering international trade agreements.

"All three of these policies have a long, ingloriously stupid history."

I look forward to National Review denouncing Biden.

ITEM 14: Breitbart reported, "More than two dozen House Democrats, many representing swing counties and districts won by former President Trump, have remained silent about their support or opposition to President Joe Biden’s amnesty plan that would eventually provide American citizenship to millions of illegal aliens.

"The Biden amnesty, known as the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, seeks to immediately provide green cards to millions of illegal aliens considered farmworkers, enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries.

"In addition, the amnesty would provide all other illegal aliens with a fast-track to green cards and citizenship, providing a flooded labor market with reduced U.S. wages for corporations and potentially a permanent Democrat electoral majority.

"Likewise, the amnesty would drive up legal immigration by providing more visas to programs like the Diversity Visa Lottery and exempting family members of certain visa holders from current caps.

"Silent on the amnesty are 28 House Democrats who won their seats in the 2020 election cycle by less than 25,000 votes. In seven cases, these Democrats won their seats by margins of less than 10,000 votes against Republican challengers."

We shall see how vulnerable they are after redistricting.

Tim Ryan is on the list. Republicans control his state's legislature.

ITEM 15: Red State reported, "House Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), are seeking to remove Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) from her position as House Republican Conference Chair. Since she voted in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump, she has been subject to widespread criticism from Republicans and conservatives.

"Now, it seems that Cheney might be reaping the consequences of her vote. Gaetz is traveling to her home state of Wyoming on Thursday. He will hold an event outside the state capitol to call for her removal from her leadership position in the House."

He says more than half the House Republicans back him.

Kick her out of the leadership.

Then kick her out of the caucus.

Then vote her out of office.

ITEM 16The Daily Mail reported, "Chelsea Clinton has been ridiculed on Twitter after she revealed a highly observant comment made by her four-year-old son about Joe Biden's inauguration.

"Clinton, the only child of Bill and Hillary Clinton, said she told her son Aidan that 'it's the 21st day of the 21st year in the 21st century'.

"Her son then responded immediately: 'Yeah, but it's cooler it's Joe Biden's first full day in the White House.' "

One person tweeted back, "My dog said the same thing."

And another tweeted, "So sweet! I just told my 2 year old daughter about Aidan and she just stared back at me and said: 'Epstein didn’t kill himself!' And then we all clapped.' "

And a Freeper at Free Republic asked, "You mean he didn’t ask for Fweedom?"

FINALLY, President Trump has opened the Office of the Former President in Florida.

May it be the forerunner of the Office of the President-Elect in 2024.

  2. "Democrats would gladly finance this doomed Patriot Party."

The Democrats succeeded against the Republican party, as well.

The Patriot Party would be a true conservative party which I would support.

Both democrats and republicans are guilty of the same hypocrisy, so why support either ?

A shot across the bow of the RINO's: Shut down this impeachment nonsense or we will relegate the GOP to 3rd place.

  7. 5 - we should name dangerous passing areas after the sorry republicans who wouldn’t fund the wall. The Camargo area will be renamed “The Paul Ryan Pass”.

8 - I had to read that twice. I could just see Inspector Clouseau investigating the factory. “Is that your minkey?”

At least Costco said they are not dropping My Pillow like so many other retailers.

15 - start with Cheney. Then circle back to Pierre Delecto for his vote to impeach last year. But most of the real conservatives in congress seem to be in the House, not the Senate.

16 - that is/was the beauty of Twitter. Obvious phonies such as Chelsea Hubble can be immediately trashed.

  8. Relating to Chief Justice Roberts, with all do respect to Don - could it also be that should Roberts preside he would be giving legitimacy to an unconstitutional impeachment? Could it also be said that senators and President Trump should not participate - again - under the argument that it is not constitutional? Ignoring and dismissing the uniparty would at least be a worthy consideration.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Agree. But just like the Constitution says ONLY State Legislatures can enact or change state voting rules, the Constitution is clear on the Chief Justice MUST preside over the trial in Senate. They ignore the former, why not the latter?

    2. What is this 'Constitution' thing you talk about so much? Those in power over us don't seem to know anything about it, as they avoid following it with religious fervor.

FINALLY, President Trump has opened the Office of the Former President in Florida. THAT will burn Biden's butt...if he ever hears of it...and remembers it.

  10. I read roberts wouldn't preside because the constitution only requires him to preside over the trial of the president. Since Trump is not president, there is no constitutional obligation.

  11. 3 - During this whole plague thing (which has been going on for nearly a year now), many people (such as myself, fortunately) were working and getting paid. There was a glaring divide between two groups who weren't working - those not working and getting paid, and those not working and NOT getting paid. If you want a big marker for identifying the "protected" sectors that need to be ransacked, that's it.

BTW, happened to be reading some insider Wall Street stuff yesterday. The take seems to be that as long as there is a lot of "stimulus money" sloshed around and the Fed keeps interest rates at basically zero, then everything will be just fine. The financial world seems to have lost track of how a real economy works...

  12. Don, are you angling for an even more prominent role in the Tory party? Your unwavering defense of the GOP is indefensible.

How many knives in the back does it take?

    1. The Republican party is ultimately for the Republic (like the Democrat party is for democracy). Trump has more opportunity to take over the Republican party than he does to build a new one. When was the last time a new party kicked out an old party?

    2. Come on EAP... our past 100+ history shows 3rd parties help the other party on the political specturm (IE: greens help GOP, Libertarians help Dems). Changing the Republican Party from within is the only option. Tea Party showed it can be effective on short term, Trump can make it permanent! I think we'll be surprised how effective the primary process will be next year and beyond. RINOs should fear us. They haven't for quite a while.

  13. The distinguished political scientist Richard Hofstadter wrote, "Third parties are like bees. Once they sting, they die." That is why Trump is right to prefer purging the Republicans to forming a third party. Given how certain senators and representatives stabbed him and his 74 million voters in the back, such a purge would prove more effective.

So look at your own hands for the blood. This was the hidden message of Clint Eastwood's film The Mule.

"You want world peace? You want national unity? The recipe is very simple.

"Leave the other fella be." Now this one is even funnier. For its your party that cheered on Buckley as he cheered on intervention in the affairs of foreigners.

You cheered when any Iranian gets killed but now you want to say leave the other fella alone? Right.

What about those despicable Amish? I hear they are using forced horse labor to grow their crops. Sheep herders in several countries are using forced sheep dog labor. When will this barbarism end?

And, except for Thomas and Alito, they all should.

3: The Demos always said how popular he was with the blue collars.

    Apparently not.

4: Just like the Puritans, they claim to hate, Lefties can't abide the thought someone, somewhere may be happy.

11: Maybe they are. I thought you said yesterday there would be no Patriot party.

FINALLY: You're dreaming. It should be the Office of the Real President.

And may he be installed to serve his second term ASAP.

  18. Item 1: Roberts' not presiding is, I believe, correct. The Constitution is explicit: "When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside..." That's in the present tense; as Mr. Trump is no longer president, Roberts does not preside. The Constitution also says, "The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments." Whether that gives the Senate the ability to appoint their own judge, I don't know. More to the point, to my mind, is that Mr. Trump is now a private citizen, so I don't see how he can be tried after an impeachment at all.
