California proves lockdowns don't work

The Daily Mail reported, "Hospitals in Southern California are so overrun by COVID-19 cases that doctors are running low on supplies of oxygen, infected patients are forced to wait eight hours in ambulances before they can enter an emergency room, and intensive care units are fully booked with no more beds available."

Under Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, California has imposed the most draconian restrictions on American life since the days of King George III.

Newsom has closed churches and destroyed thousands of businesses -- sacrificing them at the altar of technocracy.

And it failed.

Miserably.

The Daily Mail reported, "The skyrocketing surge in covid 19 cases is raising suspicions among public health officials in Los Angeles County that a new, more contagious variant of the coronavirus is fueling the outbreak.

"California's deadly Christmas was marked by pleas to avoid holiday gatherings outside the home and indoor church services in what could be a make-or-break effort to curb a coronavirus surge that already has filled some hospitals well beyond normal capacity."

The public health community is doubling down on stupid by calling for more lockdowns.

The restrictions did not work. If they did, the virus would be history.

The Daily Mail reported, "Doctors say California is currently experiencing a 'viral tsunami' with covid 19 cases surging by a staggering 68% in the past two weeks alone and ICU beds now at capacity in the southern part of the state.

"California surpassed 2 million recorded cases of the deadly virus earlier this week, but experts predict that number will rapidly rise as residents gather to celebrate Christmas and New Year."

More likely, the numbers will rise because January is colder than December.

Instead of trying to prevent the virus, public health officials should have tried to manage it.

Shutting down the state all summer and fall, health officials should have let the state re-open and braced for winter because the virus is seasonal. Being inactive and cooped up for long periods of time is unhealthy both mentally and physically.

We fought an American revolution amid a smallpox epidemic that killed one-third of those infected. The story of Valley Forge was the American army holing up for the winter to acquire herd immunity. There were no alternatives.

The cost was very high. The death toll was enormous. Indeed, for every soldier killed in battle, 3 died from disease. But they soldiered on.

This virus kills 1 in 1,000 people infected.

It is well past time to soldier on, America.

  1. Jail proves they don't work. So does science.

A virus has to burn itself out. You can't hide from it. Herd immunity is also real.

    1. And the longer you drag this out the more likely you are to get mutations and secondary infections as one's immunity fades over time.

Healthy people need to get it and recover quickly and go large numbers to cut off vectors for the virus to spread. It's not rocket surgery (sic).

  3. People want THE WALKING DEAD to come true so badly they've lost all sense of proportion.

I'm more fearful of lighting on a sunny day than a virus that only kills a fraction of one percent of those it infects.

It's time for people to grow the hell up.

    1. There are now two spinoffs from The Walking Dead. Mexico, California, Texas, Missouri and New York are now venues where you can learn 1,000 ways of impaling a skull. Scripts ten-year-olds can understand.

  4. It's not about the disease. It's about control. Every single state that is keeping people locked down, has seen an uptick in cases.

    2. Correct my friend. The planned slow march of authoritarianism just got a lot faster. Like the canard of global warming, these pseudo emergencies are being used to take your liberty away which is the ultimate goal of the left. Remember what Hayek said: "'Emergencies' have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded -- and once they are suspended it is not difficult for anyone who has assumed such emergency powers to see to it that the emergency persists."

  5. I don’t have any co-morbidities. I don’t fear the virus. I believe in God. I am trying to live a normal life. I am glad I don’t live in a democrat run state.

    1. My only risk factor is age (67) and otherwise quite healthy. I supplement vitamins C and D and a daily cal-mag-zinc among others. I would like to stash a bottle of HCQ away in a back drawer if I could, but I don't have any black market contacts, or know anyone in one of the many countries where it's OTC. In lieu of that I have some quinine supplements, and Ivermectin (dog wormers) for use if nothing else is available.
I've been told by our local ER docs that they have HCQ, but can only prescribe it for admitted inpatients (by which time it's likely too late).

    2. Greg I do the same thing, but wash it dwn with 12,16 oz of tonic water. not much HCQ but better than nothing..

  7. My nephew's fiancee had it during our Thanksgiving get together. We all found out after the fact. No one else caught it while being there (or did they)? She was back for Christmas and said it was like a light case of the flu (which it probably was). No problems at all. Hugs were enjoyed all day!

    1. I got it and getting the shingles in the same year was 15 times worse.

On the other hand, my wife got it bad, stayed for five nights at the local hospital, and has been recovering ever since.

It's all chance. It should have KO'd me; it did not. Given her medical history, it should have killed her. It did not.

Meanwhile, America's Cowards cringe, squeel, and hide under their pillows (as if that will save their sorry asses).

Too bad the present-day virus (not the killer back in February-April 2020) doesn't wipe out the cowards, and only the cowards. We could do very nicely with a hell of a lot less of them.

  8. I got it on 12/23. I would not even call it a light flu. I had aches and pains, fatigued, a sore throat but not real bad and a cough. I slept about 16 hours and all my symptoms were gone except the cough, but that is still really mild.

Several things about the hospital situation in CA stories that is not adding up.

Item 1: In April when the shit hit the fan, they moved the hospital ship to LA and it was not used. The US government built over 40 field hospitals with 100's of beds in five weeks- several in LA. Why isn't Garcetti or Newsom calling for a repeat?

Item 2: Dr. Drew Pinsky is a world renowned physician in LA who has several podcasts and a radio program. He has been saying that the "crisis" is somewhat manufactured because a) hospitals can reconfigure and create extra ICU and extra COVID wings if the shortages are getting that acute. When he first talked about it several weeks ago, the overall capacity was only in the 70's, so there was plenty of surge capcity.
Item 3: He says that the statistics on the hospitals are only the county run hospitals - if you add in all the other hospitals there is still plenty of capacity - which is why maybe Item 1 is not happening?

    1. Any efficient business should always be operating at near-capacity.

    2. The medical center I worked at routinely red-flagged (no new admissions) on a good day in ordinary times on at least a weekly basis. It usually wasn't a matter of bed space as it was staff available to cover the workload. It's all about the Benjamins folks, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

      Delete
    3. "Why isn't Garcetti or Newsom calling for a repeat?"

Because either the situation is real and they're absolutely incompetent, or the numbers are bogus, and thus they really don't need the ship. See if they scream for the ship on 01/20/21.

    4. All "stats" and claims from the absolutely incompetent and mendacious CA Demo-Communists are garbage, and should automatically be regarded as fraudulent.

Meanwhile, the one-party state of CA is now completely responsible for its situation.

And when the DemComs wake up on 01/21/21 (sorry, Don S.!), and realize that this is now true nationwide, Amazon will be overwhelmed --- their order systems will crash --- by the surge of requests for new underwear.

  9. It won't be long before I am vaccinated. I am 75 and been taking heart medications for seven years. My heart doctor has been very good at providing me with immunizations, but if he runs into problems because of "diversity" by the public health quacks, I can always go to the Veterans Administration.

  11. Be suspicious and skeptical of gov't stats.
A recent article on Covid in San Francisco, which is undergoing a panic similar to the one in LA, showed that
    1) WAY MORE people in SF are dying of drugs than Covid
    2) The ICUs for the SF county were at 75% capacity, of which less than 15% were due to Covid. SF declared an emergency shutdown. Just in case.

In my county, Santa Clara, which has an emergency shelter-in-place lockdown, the ICUs are 93% in use.
There are 317 beds, 83 are in use by Covid patients.

  12. When you contend that governments have a role in health care, why are you so surprised when they assert total control because its what is best for you????

When you contend that governments have authority to regulate commerce why are you so surprised when they regulate some businesses into bankruptcy?????

The globalists are laughing all the way to the bank this year. They own the only "essential" businesses.

As Gomer Pyle said: Surprise surprise!

  17. Off topic, but this is a great tweet by Trump:

"Time for Republican Senators to step up and fight for the Presidency, like the Democrats would do if they had actually won. The proof is irrefutable! ..."

Part of Trump's information war. Here, it looks like he is laying out the reasons for the Insurrection Act. Giving those he is warning a chance to do their jobs of upholding the Constitution. There is still time for them to do so. But, they will run out of time if they don't act soon.

    3. I get this weird sense that Sidney Powell is already special prosecutor (independent counsel - for now, more like VERY independent counsel), and is assembling the case out of the limelight. She made some comment a few days ago that she and her team were very close to having the whole sordid story unraveled, and would have that done this week.

When that's done, we'll know what we have, and she can officially be made special counsel - which will give her the immediate opportunity to start dropping indictments and subpoenas like cluster bombs.

      Then watch the rats scurry...
