NBC actors call for NBC boycott over Trump exclusive

Once upon a time in the media, an exclusive interview with the President of the United States was a source of pride for a news network. That ended on January 20, 2017, when Donald John Trump took office.

The Daily Beast reported, "NBC Staffers Seethe as Trump Gleefully Uses the Network Against Biden."

ABC announced it would do a townhall with Biden first. NBC then announced it will run a competing townhall with President Trump. It will run on Comcast (which owns NBC) cable channels as well. It will run from 8 PM Eastern to 9. Biden's will run an extra half hour.

We all know who will draw the most viewers.

Yashar Ali, a contributor to New York Magazine and HuffPost, tweeted, "I've heard from over a dozen NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC sources (talent and staff) and the frustration with and anger toward their employer for scheduling a town hall against Biden is palpable."

Tonight was supposed to be a presidential debate but the debate commission arbitrarily changed the rules, and President Trump dropped out.

Now we will have dueling townhalls.

Let the free market do its thing.

Biden's campaign whined to the Beast, "It’s an irresponsible and selfish move by NBC.

"If they’re going to allow Donald Trump an hour of air time to spread disinformation about covid and repeat his greatest hits of lies and conspiracy theories, they ought to at least do it an hour later and let voters hear from both candidates. Broadcast networks have a role in our Democratic process, and NBC doesn’t seem to be taking theirs very seriously today."

The Beast capitalized Democratic, not I.

When the press speaks of the Democratic institutions of America, that is exactly what they mean: agencies controlled by Democrats.

Thursday night is the second-biggest night for TV, after Sunday. But Sunday Night Football would clobber any townhall.

Of course, Disney's ABC could always move the Biden Shiz Show to 9 PM and allow the quick-witted genius Biden to answer President Trump.

TV Line reported, "Several actors and producers on NBC dramas have signed a petition asking the network to reschedule its planned airing of President Donald Trump’s live event tonight.

"Law & Order: SVU‘s Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman and many of his cast members and former Blindspot/current Connecting executive producer Martin Gero are among the letter’s signatories, THR.com reports.

"They join other big Hollywood names — such as J.J. Abrams, Ava duVernay, Greg Berlanti, Aaron Sorkin and Damon Lindelof — who are protesting the network’s decision to air Trump’s event at the same time as presidential candidate Joe Biden holds a similar town hall on ABC."

Debra Messing, who starred on Will & Grace for 10 years on NBC, tweeted, "THIS is UNCONSCIONABLE. #Trump pulled out of the scheduled townhall. #Biden KEPT HIS COMMITMENT & HIS WORD and moved forward. Now @nbc @nbcnews is going to REWARD 45 for breaking his commitment and be an accomplice to his attempt to screw over Biden?! #BoycottNBC #BoycottMSNBC."

From Must Watch TV to Must Not Watch.

This is a warning to executives at all the networks to toe the ever-changing party line. In 2016, putting Donald Trump on TV was paramount in the campaign to elect Hillary.

Now it is verboten.

It is like the phrase sexual preference, which once was mandatory and is now censored.

I would say this is our world if we foolishly elect Biden, but this already is our world, isn't it?

  5. How many people actually watch live TV anyway? Have these snowflakes never heard of DVRs? Absolutely essential for skipping commercials and cringe-worthy commentary. If I did want to watch either or both of these townhalls, I would record them both first. But I think MeTV shows Adam-12 reruns in this time slot, probably a better viewing bet anyway!

  6. Li’l Debbie says that The Donald pulled out and broke his word? Hardly. It was to be a face to face debate, and SlowJoe whispered in someone’s ear that a virtual debate would work better for him. Or, someone did that on behalf of SlowJoe, who thinks he is running for the U.S. Senate. At any rate, the commiecRATS were the ones who broke the original agreement.

Debra Messing is ill-informed human debris.

  7. It was odd. My local newspaper had the Biden townhall listed but had two odd shows (not the Trump townhall) listed in the 8-9 timeslot. The same thing on the FIOS TV guide. You can't tell me they couldn't update the online guide as of the same day of the event. It's almost as if they don't want people to watch.

Because they know Trump would kill Biden in ratings. It's no contest, Trump is a master showman and marketer and Biden is a fading grifting, grafting, politician.

  9. Mikey NTH, you nailed it. The number of viewers cannot be faked like a poll and what they fear is that they will lose control of the polling narrative by which they hope to suppress votes for DJT.

All the President has to do is promise to fire someone and maybe a dozen people will watch old Joe.

    1. Regretfully I have to admit that I'm familiar with the work of Damon Lindelof. He wrote the script for Prometheus - and if you don't think Prometheus was a horror movie, you didn't hear my wallet screaming.

  11. So funny that they are actually conceding that DJT will crush Slow in the ratings dept.

  12. I would posit that Thurs Night Football might.. might beat the Biden town hall ratings, but no way they would beat the Trump town hall ratings.

  16. Scully admitted to lying about his Twitter account being hacked and blamed criticism from conservatives and Trump for it. The poor boy is suspended from CSPAN.

    Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
I was right again! Steve Scully just admitted he was lying about his Twitter being hacked. The Debate was Rigged! He was suspended from @cspan
indefinitely. The Trump Campaign was not treated fairly by the “Commission”. Did I show good instincts in being the first to know?

Trump’s cunning to sense in advance that the second townhall debate was rigged is amazing. That is a bombshell that the debate commission won’t live down. #TownHall @realDonaldTrump

I will be doing a major Fake @NBCNews Town Hall Forum, live tonight from Miami, at 8:00 P.M. They asked me to do it in place of the Rigged Steve Scully (he is now suspended from @cspan for lying) Debate. I wonder if they’ll treat me as well as Sleepy Joe? They should!

  22. Guthrie's behavior alone was a huge win for Trump tonight.

As a musician, most of my FB friends are Liberals.

Many were disgusted by Guthrie's behavior, and virtually all noted the huge contrast between her treatment of Trump and the softballs lobbed towards senile Joe.
