Veepstakes show Biden is too weak to be elected

4 years ago, the selection of a running mate was an afterthought for Donald John Trump and Hillary. That is how things usually go because people elect a president, not a vice president.

But Biden's mental health is so fragile that the selection of a VP is of paramount importance. The focus on the veep and not the nominee is the loudest warning of trouble for Democrats this year.

Amy Walter of the Cook Political Report wrote, "What Biden Really Needs From a VP Pick."

No, she did not say a miracle. But if Biden is 10 points (or whatever) ahead, why would the veep matter?

I mean other than he is too decrepit to actually serve as president. And that is the reason the veep matters. And that is trouble with a capital T, which rhymes with D, which stands for dementia.

She ended her column, "Biden is in the enviable position of leading this race with less than four months to go. He doesn't need to convince voters that Trump isn't doing a good job — a majority already feel that way. What he does need to do is assure them that he isn't a risky pick. One way to do this is to pick a VP that voters see as capable and experienced enough to take over if he can't continue to do his job. It's really not any more complicated than that."

But Democrats have no woman of color or of pallor who can step in and be president, especially in a time of pandemic and economic problems. They have no man either. If they did, that person would be the nominee.

And Democrats will pick a woman for Biden. Progressives don't care about the election. They want their token -- now.

They already are demanding that no one criticize her, no matter who she may be.

Axios reported, "Looking ahead to Joe Biden's announcement of a female running mate, a group of women leaders sent a letter Friday to top news executives to warn them against 'stereotypes and tropes' in coverage.

"What they're saying: 'Our country — and your newsrooms — have learned a lot since the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent protests for racial equality that his death spurred,' the letter says.

"'The times and the experience made you, the most powerful people in media, stop and think about your role in perpetuating inequality and the opportunity you had to promote equality and simple justice with your reporting of the news,' it adds."

You can call a white man Hitler, Orange, et cetera, but if you dare point out that Karen Bass is communist all hell will break out.

This attempted intimidation says women are so strong that one unkind word will melt them down.

Voters get that.

They already see Biden is in meltdown.

To be sure, the veep selection mattered in 1944 when FDR ran for a fourth term amidst a world war. He had to dump Henry Wallace as vice president because Wallace was a flat-out communist. Truman was a nice safe choice, and for a Democrat, he turned out to be a Clintonish president, not especially bad or especially good. To his credit, Harry stayed out of the interns.

Experience shows that if you are talking about the veep choice, you are not talking about the nominee because he is a loser. In 2000, we talked way too much about Cheney and Lieberman, didn't we?

Democrats are in that position again this year.

Cook got the 2016 race wrong.

If Cook's staff believes Biden can beat President Trump, then Cook will be wrong again.

  1. It's funny to read the assumptions of the FAKE NEWS, "He doesn't need to convince voters that Trump isn't doing a good job — a majority already feel that way." Nobody who voted for Trump in 2016 is changing their mind, He's added 100s of thousands of walkaway people. Yet, nobody thinks he's doing a good job. FAKE NEWS

    1. That is *precisely* the definition of "fake news" -- it's not so much the stupidity and lies, but more than anything the editorializing and gaslighting and idiotic assumptions.

    2. That line stuck out for me, too. If the "majority" already feel that way, why are the Dems pushing for mail-in voting, which has been proven to be lousy with fraud? Why are the Dems doing absolutely everything they can think of to get rid of Trump?

    3. It seems to me that none of this is targeted at us. They know they are not going to win Trump supporters over, nor are they going to Energize their base. This is targeted at the rest of the world
Two possible reasons, if they manage enough fraud to get Biden elected, they can gloss over accusations of fraud and intimidation. More likely though is this will be used to gin up support for antifa terrorism and try to make their brown shirt tactics appear as legitimate protests.

  2. Did any of the various "candidates" in the DEM primary even want to win? None of them bothered attacking Biden for his long record of being wrong or his various racial missteps over the decades. Either they did no opposition research or they decided that attacking Biden wouldn't work. Whichever it was, it was blatant political malpractice.

  3. IMO Calamity Harris was the presumptive pick, until Tulsi Gabbard took her down. The resultant dogpiling onto Gabbard didn't save Harris, but it told the other candidates what would happen if they went after the heir presumptive Biden.

  5. If Biden's choice is down to Kamala Harris or Susan Rice, it's the political animal versus the swamp creature. Harris has at least won an election; Rice has more nat sec cred. Or she might have if she hadn't told the same lie on five Sunday morning talk shows. When Hillary Clinton was "unavailable". Neither woman inspires confidence. The voters had a chance to put Kamala in the White House. They stayed way in droves.

    1. I figure he'll pick Rice since its easy to humiliate Harris just by playing the video clip of Rep. Gabbard who exposed her as a sociopath.

Plus Obama will demand Rice who is his surrogate.

Its not that they are women, its that they suck. They are liars, cheaters, ect. AND I AM A WOMAN, I will say it.

Truman was a disaster! One we're still paying for. Truman created the Deep State in 1947: the CIA and NSA whose budgets remain secret even to Congressmen.

He also started the Korean War without Congress declaring war either. And the curse of that was that it became precedent as Congress hasn't declared war since 1941.

Then he dropped the nukes on civilians, when the war was already won, instead of just dropping into the surrounding ocean for a devastating demonstration. Killing civilians in war is a violation that extends to Westphalia treaty in the 17th century.

The churches demanded it. No more killing women and children! And then came the racist Lincoln who set the precedent for Truman to hide behind.

But neocons like the deep state and undeclared war so we get "not especially bad".

    1. You need to learn history. An invasion of Japan would have cost millions of lives. Based on the numbers from Okinawa, U.S. losses would have been between 500,000 and one million. Japanese losses would have been between 4 and 7 million for Olympic, and as high as 100 million for operation Coronet. Japanese civilians would have taken up arms when we invaded. They fought to the death on Okinawa, Saipan, and nearly every battle where they could not evacuate the troops. The Bushido creed is something most people today cannot understand.
Japan would have ceased to exist as a civilization. We too would have never been the same.

  10. I don't always comment but when I do I run mates.

Hidin' Biden has a BIG problem going into November. His close allies and propagandists in the media damaged Trump but did not mortally wound the Presidential Incumbent's Victory Lap.

Biden obviously thought the Veepstakes would be an afterthought but it's consumed his candidacy. All Dem factions are digging in and THAT is why Joe's Nurses decided to take a step back from saying it's Whitmer.

Yep word is that Whitmer was the designated VP choice of Joe's Sr Nurse Ratchets. Unfortunately with more than one woman of color being viable candidates this IS NOT the Gov Droid Joe is looking for.

Let's just say that Joe did some deals with certain people in the south that tapped his Ratchets on the shoulder and said Oscars so White would not do for the Ticket this year.

The problem is that Whitmer IS a good choice politically AND can help Joe in Michigan. If Hilldabeast has paid attention to HER so called firewall she might be Pres right now.

I still say this is all Kabuki dance for Newsom to be the VP. I said this early I said this often. And believe me the Dems want to AT THE VERY LEAST position a good candidate for 2024. Whitmer is not it just ask Tim Kaine how it works out to be plucked from obscurity and go all National.

    Newsom

Why waste them on a lost cause in 2020?

Plus, Cali sources say that his Aunt Nancy told Newsom last year not to run for Prez this year.

That assumes, of course, Cali doesn't go bankrupt before 2024...

  15. The comment about Truman is odd. He was a momentous president. He made the final decision to drop the atomic bomb, he gave the order to integrate the armed services (and publicly supported civil rights and tried to get Congress to pass civil rights legislation), he gave diplomatic recognition to Israel, and he put in place America's fight/defense against communism: 1) the Marshall Plan and NATO to stop European counties from being peeled off by the Soviets, and 2) the CIA, America's first permanent/peace time intelligence agency. He put America into war against communist expansion in Korea. He championed/authorized development of the hydrogen bomb.

This was all momentous stuff. Both Reagan and Bush called Truman architect of America's Cold War strategy and gave Truman a big piece of the credit for America's victory in the Cold War.

I don't think any of this "Clintonesque,' nor can Truman be dismissed as a "not especially bad or especially good" president. These characterizations are puzzling.

    2. Totally agree. Replacing Wallace with Truman was, as msher says, "momentous" and (to my religious mind) an act of God, not FDR. Despite Truman's initial positive impression of Stalin, he was stalwart against Communism/Socialism, and a true believer in America's strengths.
As for "staying out of the interns", Mr. Truman won the hearts of many an older woman with his comment--when invited to see the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes--“Real gentlemen prefer gray.”

  16. Agree, msher.

    Truman also said:
"When even one American – who has done nothing wrong – is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth – then all Americans are in peril."

Something all Americans would do well to remember today.
