Reaction to NYT resignation shows the press hates conservatives

Because Bari Weiss's resignation as an opinions editor at the New York Times was too accurate in exposing the hypocrisy of the Times, newspaper management could not deny her allegations, So it fell upon the Poynter Institute -- an apologist for the liberal press -- to attack Weiss.

She is a Jewish conservative from Pittsburgh. Her bat mitzvah was at the Tree of Life Synagogue, where a gunman later shot and killed 11 worshipers attending services on the Sabbath.

She wrote How to Fight Anti-Semitism, published by Crown Publishing Group last year, which will be followed by The New Seven Dirty Words later this year.

In her letter to A.G. Sulzberger, she wrote, "My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist; I have learned to brush off comments about how I’m 'writing about the Jews again.' Several colleagues perceived to be friendly with me were badgered by coworkers. My work and my character are openly demeaned on company-wide Slack channels where masthead editors regularly weigh in. There, some coworkers insist I need to be rooted out if this company is to be a truly 'inclusive' one, while others post ax emojis next to my name. Still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are.

"There are terms for all of this: unlawful discrimination, hostile work environment, and constructive discharge. I’m no legal expert. But I know that this is wrong.

"I do not understand how you have allowed this kind of behavior to go on inside your company in full view of the paper’s entire staff and the public. And I certainly can’t square how you and other Times leaders have stood by while simultaneously praising me in private for my courage. Showing up for work as a centrist at an American newspaper should not require bravery."

A centrist.

Forget conservative, you cannot be a centrist at an American newspaper any more.

Rioters and looters must be called peaceful protesters, black must be capitalized but not white, and any statement of fact by President Donald John Trump must be couched as "without evidence."

Her letter was lengthy and spirited. My guess is Weiss will sue the Times. She's 36 and has the time.

Eileen Murphy, the Times’ senior vice president of communications, responded, "We’re committed to fostering an environment of honest, searching and empathetic dialogue between colleagues, one where mutual respect is required of all."

Tepid.

Tom Jones is Poynter’s senior media writer. He took on the task of denying the undeniable that the Times is the Lord of the Flies of newspapers.

Jones wrote, "Weiss is now gone from the Times and that will generally draw one of two reactions.

"One, from many readers and Times staffers, will be: good riddance. Her opinions were occasionally harmful and her resignation letter was a whiny rant of someone who likes to dish it out but can’t take it when she is criticized. And, they might ask, was she ever stopped from writing anything?

"The other reaction, from many Times critics and some colleagues, will be: see, more proof that the Times is a liberal mouthpiece that doesn’t allow for other (conservative) voices. In fact, the resignation letter became catnip for conservatives such as Fox News’ Brit Hume and The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro, as well as Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump Jr."

Jones asserts many readers support the Poynter take of "good riddance" but implies there are no readers who support her.

To Jones, her letter and her very serious allegations of the Times creating a a hostile work environment (which is illegal) are just catnip for conservatives, not to be taken seriously.

He also alluded that she is just doing this to cash in, and that she has enough "fame" (his quote marks) to never be without a job again.

I will give Jones credit for being on target with the opinions of most reporters these days. Those who remain in the dying newspaper industry are torching the buildings before they leave. Witness the endorsement of Hillary by the Houston Chronicle four years ago. The Dallas Morning News, the Arizona Republic, and other formerly conservative newspapers have abandoned all principle in their quest for peer approval.

Antisemitism used to be a deal-breaker in newspapering. Now it is expected. "Writing about the Jews again" they told a woman whose home synagogue was shot up by an antisemitic terrorist. Ben Shapiro joked that Nick Cannon can replace her.

Ed Driscoll wrote, "Don’t give Sulzberger and Baquet any ideas, Ben!"

  1. Bari Weiss threw the equivalent of Zeus's thunderbolt/lightning bolt on her way out the door. Apparently the Timesers left behind are too dumb to know they're burnig to a crisp.

  3. There is a blog called "Military History" in it there is a video on the liberation of Dachau. The incidents described within matched what my Late-Father-in-Law saw. He was never anti Semitic. of German ancestry-could speak a bit and understand a lot. He was very, very, angry. it is not good to get an Eastern Kentuckian angry.I'm seeing the CAIR/Dem axis here . It is now fashionable to support all effort to be anti Jewish.
Weiss should see that her former colleagues would gladly have her wear a yellow star. They'd load US all in boxcars if they could. However I know a Marlin 30-30 and others that would say "Molon Labe".. It's the left's Tiger to ride..
However I do believe that there are more moderates that have wakened to the reality of the hate an vile of the left.

  4. Tom Jones is the one who sings:
"It's not unusual to go out at any time.
But when I see you out and about, it's such a crime.
If you should ever want to be loved by anyone,
It's not unusual, it happens every day,
    No matter what you say,
We know it happens all the time."
Or is this a different Tom Jones?

  5. Spearcatcher. As Rush said about Lanny Davis during the Clintoine regime. Some body - or organization - is designated to make an ass of themself to redirect attention away from the real culprit. A position only a True LibCommie would invent, or want to perform.

This is obviously Jones's opinion; the coward hides behind the hypothetical "readers and staffers" bush).

Weiss's resignation letter was the most eloquent thing I've read in non-books in years, and I rip new *ssh*les in bad writing. My wife, who almost never reads anything that would interest readers of the Surber column, thought it was excellent.

  8. There are a lot of Bari Weiss’ around. The left is eating their own and the carnage will destroy the Liberal media. I will enjoy the train wreck.

  9. Centrist? I haven't read her articles but I came across one by Douthat who passes for Conservative. It was an anti-Trump rant but he did ask whether the rioting might be going too far. ALL the comments lambasted him for daring to suggest the Libs could do anything wrong. Traitor! Conservative!

Correction. Those and other newspapers are siding with big government (left) because they think they can get big government (taxpayers) to bail them out to keep them from closing down. It's always about the money.

  15. It demonstrates more than that they just "hate Conservatives". It shows that they are Democrats who have a by-line and are nothing more than "a bunch of leftist, state-directed propagandists who insist that they are doing serious journalism. They can call themselves journalists all they want and it doesn’t make it so. I can refer to myself as an NBA power forward all day, every day and I still won’t be able to dunk.” - Stephen Kruiser, PJ Media. https://pjmedia.com/columns/stephen-kruiser/2020/07/16/the-morning-briefing-shed-no-tears-as-the-final-nail-gets-driven-into-american-journalisms-coffin-n646024

Writing as an anti Trump democrat.

    Slowly with this R accusation...

The racists that cry "racism" (the phenomenon after exposing some of Bari Weiss' former colleages at New York Times).

We do not all know these former colleague personally. Yet, it is about the phenomenon in and of itself.

Let's take specifically Bari Weiss' accusation (in her resignation letter: July -2020). Excerpt:

'My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist; I have learned to brush off comments about how I’m “writing about the Jews again.” Several colleagues perceived to be friendly with me were badgered by coworkers. My work and my character are openly demeaned on company-wide Slack channels where masthead editors regularly weigh in. There, some coworkers insist I need to be rooted out if this company is to be a truly “inclusive” one, while others post ax emojis next to my name. Still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are...
But there is still none appended to Cheryl Strayed’s fawning interview with the writer Alice Walker, a proud anti-Semite who believes in lizard Illuminati.'
    _____

It reminds how Racists cry "racism". [ https://www.wnd.com/2001/09/10776/ ] .

It goes back to the first on record true hater who began this slippery slope of using this as epithet only to hurt while being THE racist.

It was Issa Nakhleh who made sure to throw it in the face of survivors of the Holocaust in the US in his first of a kind June 17, 1949 "worst than nazis" memo.

This cruel human being couldn't hold himself back in November 14, 1972  [ https://books.google.com/books?id=wk0oAQAAMAAJ&q=issa+nakhleh+hitler ]  to expose himself as he uttered that Hitler never killed Jews and denied the Holocaust ever happened. All the millions are alive... He said that it was all invented By J... He repeated it 6 years later to disturb the peace of Camp David between Sadat and Begin Historic peace summit. [ https://books.google.com/books?id=dUz4AAAAQBAJ&pg=PA120 ]

Imagine the maliciousness of only less than 3 decades after WW2, stating this as those who lost so many and went through so much, revictimized all over again.

This non-white brown Arab linked with most true neo nazis "aryans," since the 1960's [ https://books.google.com/books?id=zdc3AQAAIAAJ&q=issa+nakhleh+hitler ], published "articles," for them, spoke at holocaust denial convention representing Muslim Congress [ https://books.google.com/books?id=hPUSAQAAMAAJ&q=nakhleh+hitler ], and defended holocaust-denier Ditlieb [ https://books.google.com/books?id=2PCQBgAAQBAJ&pg=PT339 ].

Again, turning back the clock, remember his accusation of Nazism in 1949?

(Unrelated to this. Though we could go on for days to show the raw racism in how Arab militants' violence linked to Gaza government or "moderate" Ramallah government or helped by Arabs inside Israel target specifically only Jews (I refer to civilians) and not Arabs. Or Racist dehumanization in Palestine [ https://www.google.com/search?q=pa+apes+pigs ] .
... annexation would be a mistake. Yet, slowly with this R accusation , that became but a knife so often).
