Operation LeGend will make cities great again

I grew up in Cleveland in the same house my mother grew up in. Over time, the neighborhood changed. Homes that raised noisy families quieted down and became a grandmother's house, as the parents stayed but the kids move out.

But we would have stayed had it not been for the Hough Riots in 1966. Crime had risen, sure, but the riots made our neighborhood unsafe. To suburbia we fled. Liberals in their gated communities can dismiss it as white flight all they want, but my mother did not want me killed.

Which brings us to LeGend Taliferro, the 4-year-old boy who was shot dead in his bed in Kansas City. He was the city's 5th child to be a homicide victim so far this year. In his honor, the president began Operation LeGend, which sends federal law enforcement officials to crime-ridden cities to restore law and order.

The Department of Justice announced on Wednesday, "Operation Legend Expanded to Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee."

The department deployed federal officials to Albuquerque, Kansas City, and Chicago on July 8.

The announcement said, "As part of Operation LeGend, Attorney General Barr directed the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, DEA, and ATF to significantly increase resources into Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee in the coming weeks to help state and local officials fight high levels of violent crime, particularly gun violence. Cleveland is currently experiencing a significant increase in violent crime, with homicides currently up more than 13% and shootings up over 35% over 2019. Similarly, homicides are up in Detroit nearly 31% and shootings resulting in wounds are up over 53%. In Milwaukee, homicides are up 85% this year, and non-fatal shootings are up 64%.

"In Cleveland, the Department of Justice will supplement state and local law enforcement agencies by sending more than 25 federal investigators from the FBI, DEA, and ATF to the city. Under the leadership of Justin Herdman, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, these investigators will complement the work already underway by existing joint federal, state and local task forces focused on combating violent gangs, gun crime, and drug trafficking organizations.

"The Bureau of Justice Assistance will make available $1 million to support Operation LeGend’s violent crime reduction efforts in Cleveland, and the COPS Office has also made almost $10 million available to the Cleveland Police Department to fund the hiring of 30 officers, five Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, and four Adult Parole Authority officers.

"In Detroit, the Department of Justice will supplement state and local law enforcement agencies by sending approximately 42 federal agents from the FBI, DEA, and ATF to the city. An additional 10 Detroit ATF agents have been reassigned to work on violent gun crimes. Under the leadership of Matthew Schneider, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, these federal agents will work cooperatively with the Detroit Police Department to combat gun and gang violence, as they have been doing since December 2019. These additional resources include 11 new and permanent ATF Special Agents and five new and permanent FBI Special Agents who will focus on violent crime in the City of Detroit.

"The Bureau of Justice Assistance will make available $1.4 million to support Operation LeGend’s violent crime reduction efforts in Detroit, and the COPS Office has also made $2.4 million available to the Detroit Police Department to fund the hiring of 15 officers."

Democrats keep saying Republicans want to turn the clock back to the 1950s, implying that Republicans want to erase civil rights. But Republicans in Congress overwhelmingly supported civil rights, and without their support, there would have been no civil rights legislation.

Dixiecrats who voted against civil rights remained Democrat after their loss, with the sole exception of Strom Thurmond. The South remained solidly Democrat until 1994 when the Gingrich revolution hit. Civil rights and integration were well established by then.

But people of all races need to feel safe in their homes. LeGend Taliferro was not, but his death has re-doubled efforts to make every child safer.

I fail to see why this is controversial. But it is.

  1. Don,

Your site is now being bombarded by links to viruses.

  2. The White Black Nationalist Color Revolution

  3. Wouldn't people be more civil if everyone carried?

    1. Kennesaw, GA ( pop. 33,000) requires every head of household to maintain a firearm. No shootings and very low crime.

  4. It is controversial because PDJT is trying to solve a problem in democrat dung piles that democrats let go on for years because they don’t care and it gives them an issue to run on. It is controversial because it shows how much PDJT cares about all Americans.

    1. All those politico's have cared about for years is "show me the money".

  5. Expecting anything positive from Bill Barr is ludicrous. William Safire, possibly the last conservative at the Times, called him General CoverUp. He had Bush pardon the drug dealing Iran Contra crooks.

Today Rand Paul calls him the chief advocate for warrentless surveillance. Only the naive expect him to indict anyone over the FISA spy op.

Even worse he was the driving force behind civil asset forfeiture where you can lose all your property without a trial.

Especially if you are carrying cash to buy a used truck or boat. They take it from you without charging you for anything and force you to sue them to get it back.

Face it the judicial system is corrupt top to bottom. the defund the police movement is the karma that's been coming their way for a very long time.

  6. We do not know what is really going on behind the scene so anything we say is only an opinion.

From what I see there are real things going on that are not publicly disclosed. As we approach the Election it will either come out and we will be a long way back to A Republic or it will be time for those who want a return to that founding principle to take matters into that direction.

  7. The choice is already clear. VERY clear. On November 3, you can either vote for USA Capitalism or Chinese Marxism. Easy peasy. But because Choice B, at least right now, is abhorrent to the majority of Americans, the LibCommie surrogates of Chinese Marxism are trying to trick you into giving up or not showing up. We, of course, are not falling for it...

Oh, and also do not fall into the trap of thinking that our chief law enforcement officers are some kind of super-sleuths with Kreskin-like powers of divination. From what I’ve read lately, they are more likely to congratulate themselves after an arse-wiping that avoided streaking their clothes. They’re the fookin GOVERNMENT, for God’s sake. I’m minimizing expectations to be pleasantly surprised when I read, in early October or thereabouts, that a 367 count indictment involving widespread RICO violations was laid down against BLM, Antifa, and Deray McKesson.

  8. Just out

Hammer coming down of the Criminal Dr. Fachi.

    1. Fauci "has been maintaining a studious position that only randomized controlled trial evidence has any value."

  9. It would be nice for crime to go down in Cleveland. It would be nice for schools to improve in Cleveland. I'm not sure that there is much of a chance happening without major reform, and not just Democrats losing power.
