Highlights of the News

July is Patriot Month. You cannot have Patriot Month without John Wayne. It's in the rule book.

ITEM: Yahoo Finance reported Biden "has put forth reversing half of the president’s signature tax cuts, lifting the statutory rate to 28%. Investment bank Credit Suisse estimates this change in taxes would increase the effective rate by 4% to 5%, and slash $9 off estimated S&P 500 earnings per share. Goldman Sachs has projected that Biden’s tax plan would lead it to reduce its 2021 earnings estimate by 12%."

SMH Group CEO George Ball said, "There’s a problem. It’s all after-tax. That’s unfortunate but at the end of the day, the money you put in your pocket is after-tax. You need to put more money in your pocket. It [the Biden plan] means that stocks — all things being equal — would be lower by 25% than they are today. It may not work that way. That is at least the theory."

Considering stocks shot up that amount after President Donald John Trump cut taxes, I agree with Ball.

And the economy will follow.

And the media will blame President Trump for Biden's economic wrecking ball.

ITEMReuters reported, "Homicides in El Salvador fell over 50% in President Nayib Bukele's first year in office, with officials citing tougher enforcement, while a study on Wednesday suggests gangs may have eased up on violence and made informal deals with authorities.

"Homicides were already in decline in El Salvador, which has recently had one of the world's highest murder rates, when Bukele took office in June 2019.

"From then through May, murders fell 51.3% from the prior year, official data show. During the first half of 2020, homicides decreased 62.5% compared with 2019, touching historic lows.

"Bukele has attributed the improvement to an increased police and military presence on the streets, and tighter security in jails controlled by the powerful Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Barrio 18 gangs."

When his term ends, appoint President Bukele head of Homeland Security.

90% approval rate by the way.

ITEMCindy Adams reported, "The Gov’s being thrown a fat lawsuit. The thrower is lawyer Sal Strazzullo.

"The damages? He estimates $100 million. Co-defendants: the NYPD, Commissioner Dermot Shea, NYC, Bill de Blasio, the state of New York and others. I’m told that an official Notice of Claim has been filed with the Court of Claims. The claimant? Domus Design Center aka DDC, 134 Madison Ave. The issue deals with May 29’s frightening night when looters, rioters and thieves terrorized our city, vandalized our streets, burglarized our shops.

"Strazzullo: Cuomo should have worried about hospital reform instead of bail reform. Getting a free pass, some criminals were not able to be detained pending trial and now we have looters. Who’d have imagined we’d have to board up our stores? We’re not in Afghanistan. Places like Saks Fifth, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Rolex being bombed out?"

I have a feeling some of that billion dollars cut from the police budget is going to pay for those stolen Rolexes.

And I love that a gossip gal broke this news story.

She is 90.

Only in New York, kids. Only in New York.

ITEM: The Associated Press reported, "The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Manhattan district attorney’s demand for President Donald Trump’s tax returns, but kept a hold on Trump’s financial records that Congress has been seeking for more than a year.

"The outcome in the two cases is at least a short-term victory for Trump, who has strenuously sought to keep his financial records private.

"But the justices rejected arguments by Trump’s lawyers and the Justice Department that the president is immune from investigation while he holds office or that a prosecutor must show a greater need than normal to obtain the records. The tax returns are being sought as part of a grand-jury investigation.

"Because the grand jury process is confidential, the rulings make it likely that none of Trump’s financial records will become public soon."
The marsupial nature of the Roberts court disappoints me. The law seems to mean whatever strikes the fancy of the justices on any particular day.

ITEM: CNBC reported, "The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that a huge swath of the state of Oklahoma is Native American land for certain purposes, siding with a Native American man who had challenged his rape conviction by state authorities in the territory.

"The 5-4 decision, with an opinion authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch, endorsed the claim of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation to the land."

The story said, "The case was brought by Jimmy McGirt, who was convicted by an Oklahoma court of raping a four-year-old child in 1997."

This hare-brained ruling erased that conviction.

So the court ruled that it is OK to hold another witch hunt of a sitting president but it is not OK to prosecute a child molester.

ITEM: John Binder reported, "A proposed policy platform for the Democrat Party, drafted by supporters of presumed Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), would give asylum to the world’s migrants — inviting them all to the United States to live and work.

"The document, known as the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force Recommendations, would provide amnesty and a pathway to U.S. citizenship to the 11 million to 22 million illegal aliens living in the nation and welcome hundreds of millions of the world’s migrants.

"The proposed Democrat platform would expand asylum for migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, freeing them into the interior of the nation while they await their hearings. Gallup research from 2018 finds that nearly 160 million migrants around the world would move to the U.S. if given the opportunity — five million of which are located in Central America.

"Likewise, the plan ends construction of the border wall, halts deportations for illegal aliens, ends all travel bans on national security-risk nations, China, Europe, Brazil, and Iran, ends agreements between the U.S. and Central America to reduce illegal immigration, and ends most federal detention of illegal aliens."

As I said, Biden won the nomination, Sanders and the communists won the war.

ITEM: Look for the debates to be called on account of covid 19.
Biden will become the Big Brother face that we worship while the weasels sell the Statue of Liberty off for scrap.

ITEM: One America News Network reported, "MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell has denounced recent economic lockdowns and the coronavirus panic, which he claimed reveals what Joe Biden‘s presidency would look like. According to Lindell, President Trump has helped American businesses increase production and employment.

"'The pandemic, the riots, I think it’s showing everyone what things could look like under socialism,' he said.

"He then slammed Democrat officials for their attempts to seemingly impose sweeping government control. Lindell also condemned the liberal media for targeting and trying to destroy the supporters of President Trump."

If they ever get the presidency, they will purge us all.

ITEMFox reported, "As many as 300 officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were out sick over the violent holiday weekend, days after city leaders voted to slash the police budget by $150 million, according to a report.

"LAPD brass is probing whether the high number of members out sick over the Fourth of July weekend was actually a case of the blue flu connected to a memo sent around last week that encouraged a sick-out among officers, the LA Times reported. According to the outlet, an organized labor protest of this nature is illegal."

Not until Paragraph 17 did Fox put that 300 number in context. That's out of nearly 10,000 cops.

3%.

Now you know why news sites dropped comments. Too many people call them out.

ITEM: I hate when conservatives battle conservatives.
Which means I am OK with conservative Malkin taking on the cruise ship team at National Review.

Never forget: William F. Buckley Jr. step-and-fetched it for liberals when he attacked the John Birch Society. His reward was a PBS show.

ITEM: Fox reported, "CNN continues to ignore or downplay news that is harmful to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., whose younger brother anchors the network’s most popular show, failing to mention a new report linking a controversial decision by Gov. Cuomo to thousands of deaths inside his state’s nursing homes.

"The Associated Press reported late Monday that 'New York hospitals released more than 6,300 recovering corona virus patients into nursing homes during the height' of the corona virus pandemic under a 'controversial, now-scrapped policy.'

"The AP reported that Cuomo and other state officials argued the decision was 'was not to blame for one of the nation's highest nursing home death tolls,' noting the governor has 'taken intense criticism over the policy.'

"A search of transcripts revealed that CNN completely ignored the AP report on air Monday and Tuesday with absolutely zero coverage. A search of CNN’s website did not find any digital coverage, either."

That's interesting and worthy of Media Research Center's News Busters blog.

But Fox ran it only to show readers that it is not as bad as CNN.

ITEM: Bambi knew in the 1940s that we were headed for the toilet.

We are so doomed.

ITEM: CBS reported, "The federal judge overseeing the criminal case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn has asked for a full appeals court review of the case after a panel of three judges ordered him to drop the case in June, as requested by the Justice Department.

"On Thursday, D.C. District Judge Emmet Sullivan filed a formal request for an en banc review before all 12 of the judges on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals."

Justice delayed is justice denied.

I wish President Trump had the FBI file on Sullivan.

ITEM: The Detroit Free Press reported, "An estimated 100 employees of Ford Motor Co. have asked the automaker to reconsider building and selling police vehicles in light of controversy related to police brutality and social justice, the Free Press confirmed late Wednesday.

"The issue has been raised with Ford executives by employees during at least one virtual town hall and a series of letters sent to executives since the May 25 death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police."

Not only should the answer be No, it should be Hell No.

The destruction of America is coming from within.

This is how you get a real autocrat as president -- and he won't be a Democrat.

ITEM: The New York Post reported, "Robert De Niro says he’s running out of dinero.

"The coronavirus dealt a massive financial blow to the actor’s finances he revealed in court, as his estranged wife asked for an emergency order to raise her monthly American Express card credit limit from $50,000 to $100,000."

"The Irishman actor appeared by phone on a Skype call in his Manhattan divorce case with Grace Hightower as her lawyer told a judge that De Niro unfairly cut her monthly Am-Ex allowance from $100,000 to $50,000 and said she and their children had been banned from an upstate compound where De Niro is staying during the pandemic.

"But lawyers for De Niro said he cut Hightower’s credit card limit because he’s taken a huge financial hit as the restaurant chain Nobu and Greenwich Hotel, both of which he has stakes in, have been closed or partially closed for months with barely any business.

"De Niro’s lawyer, Caroline Krauss, told the judge that Nobu lost $3 million in April and another $1.87 million in May. And he had to pay investors $500,000 on a capital call, which he borrowed money from his business partners to make, 'because he doesn’t have the cash,' Krauss said.

"Krauss also explained that under the terms of their 2004 prenuptial agreement De Niro is only required to pay Hightower $1 million a year as long as he’s making $15 million or more in income and if his income declines his payments to her proportionally do too."

Covid 19.

That must be code for Making Lousy Movies.

I should set up a GoFundMe.

For me, not De Niro. He can go pound sand. Let the Home for Old Actors take him in.

No, I don't need any money either. Send donations to the Salvation Army. They do good work.

  2. Hundreds of millions of immigrants. The threat of that alone should keep any fence sitter from voting for Slow Joe. Should. But probably won’t.

Judge Sullivan is like an out of control skier heading into the woods. The only way he will stop is by crashing into a tree. Looks like the tree will have to be the Supreme Court. But the way they have been ruling (see Oklahoma Case), it May take a presidential pardon. That would be a shame for General Flynn.

Even the paltry sum of $50,000 per month on American Express is obscene. I couldn’t spend that much if I tried. Maybe the first month I could, but then I’d run out of space and wants. And nice financial planning Bob. You’ve probably made over $100 million in earnings and you don’t have at least a tenth of that invested in liquid assets? You ARE an idiot. Or do elevator shoes cost millions?

    I like the numbers.

  3. From USA Today’s Review of Gigaton by Pearl Jam:

In the bruising "Quick Escape," he (Eddie Vedder) imagines trekking halfway across the world just "to find a place Trump hadn't f***ed up yet" and gets wistful about the past.

"And we think about the old days
Of green grass, sky and red wine,
Should've known, so fragile And avoided this one-way flight."

Eddie and Jeff Ament are Communist tools. Fook em both for taking PPP money. I’ll write you a phat check at a moment’s notice, Big D, but the ingratitude of these Commies is beyond belief. That’s OUR money, you tools.

    2. I don't know why she parted ways with Townhall, but she now runs her columns on the Unz Review, which is otherwise a haven for conspiracy theorists and anti-Semites. Those who comment on her articles are nuttier than a fruitcake. This is all beneath her. I hope she shops around and finds a venue more suited for her intellect and integrity.

    3. She needs to start another site and keep it instead of selling it. Unz Review is a horrible place for her, but maybe that's all she can get right now. It seems every so called conservative doesn't have her back.

  5. Rush had an interesting take on the Trump tax issue in that it's a complete nuthingburger. If the President had done anything wonky, they would've been already leaked out by never-trumpers in the irs. Since that hasn't happened, well...

Sullivan is acting like a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum when he's been told he can't have his sweets. Wonder if the dc circuit can/will censure/disbar sully (or whatever you call it) to remove him from ever holding court ever again.

From now on in Oklahoma, it's shoot first, ask questions later.
Don't know wtf happened to scotus. Looks like a grand mal attack of moronicus idioticus.

  7. Sorry, but John Wayne was not a patriot. At my age, I still remember the family members who were WWII veterans refusing to watch John Wayne movies on TV because he chose his career in Hollywood over serving in the military during the war. Just because he acted the role of a war hero, doesn't make him patriot.

    1. When the war broke out, Wayne had just signed a contract with his studio. Had he gone in the military, he would have been subject to a very substantial lawsuit. Even if the suit had been placed on hold for the war, it would have been reactivated afterward and it is very likely he would have lost. The story you've cited is a myth.

    5. Easy there. Many Hollywood types joined up in early ’42. Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart, Eddie Albert -“Green Acres” - rescued 40 Marines at the Invasion of Tarawa - Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Johnny Carson, Clark Gable. The father of one of my friends was assigned to the same unit as Gable. He said that Gable had a habit of getting into poker games . And losing. Seems Gable felt sympathetic towards his brother soldiers who had families and weren’t earning much, so he would deliberately lose. Mel Brooks was there at at Bastogne. Brooks served as a Combat Engineer. When the NAZIs would blast propaganda over loudspeakers, Brooks would hook up loudspeakers and play songs by Al Jolson - a Jew - for the NAZIs. Some like John Wayne were 4F. Wayne received, I believe, a shoulder injury playing football in college. He was also married, with a family. Errol Flynn was 4F due to a variety of STD’s. Back then, Americans were patriots, unlike the snowflakes we have.

    6. The PR value of Wayne's movies had to outweigh his value an additional individual soldier in such a huge war. Also, guys his age were considered old.

    7. Martha Raye not only served as a nurse in World War II, but also in Korea and Vietnam, where I met her in person.

John Garfield was 4F because of a heart condition that ended up killing him before he turned 40. So instead, he was one of the founders of the Hollywood Stage Door Canteen while starring in "Destination Tokyo."

    8. Sorry, but I don't think the reason he didn't go is pertinent (and its not as clear cut as all you folks make it, you're just making excuses for him) The issue is how much he is considered a patriot considering that he did not serve and all he did was act in movies. And yes, I am a marine veteran of Vietnam having served 68-69 including Hue. Not that that fact gives me any more right to my view than if I was not a veteran. remember, I started this by saying "family members who served in WWII did not consider him a patriot". Its their opinion that counts the most.

And I am somewhat surprised to see you Mr Surber attacking my post with sarcasm in an attempt to dismiss my thoughts. I am a loyal follower of yours and consider your blog the only thoughtful, insightful, and accurate blog on the internet. As I scrolled down through the replies I was surprised you were the one who said I was at Iwo Jima etc etc. I have stood fast against the onslaught of Wayne's patriotism all my life, based on my father and uncles description of what they thought of him. Does my opinion have any more weight in your eyes now they you know I am a Vietnam Veteran?

  8. Sullivan, probably on direct orders from Obama, is running out the clock on Flynn. He's appealed to the full District Court and if they reject, he'll appeal to the Supreme Court which won't be decided until AFTER the election. They're hoping Biden can then sweep everything under the rug should he win. Flynn knows where ALL the bodies are buried. He should really be careful and protect against suicide by 3 shots to the back of the head.

    1. I like your "on direct orders from Obama". I think that's key. Criminals do what they do because they think they can't be caught. Obama pressed a coup against new president Trump. ("By the book"... meaning the coup book). And he's getting away with it. So it makes sense that he feels he can get away with putting a puppet (Biden) in the position and having (probably Senorita Rice) act as the real functionary. Why the hell not?

  12. Somewhere someone should have a recording of a "Laugh-In" bit where Dan Rowen as newscaster interviews John Wayne, as himself, twice.

In the first version, Dan asks reasonable questions and gets reasonable answers. In the second, Dan asks completely off the wall "have you stopped beating your wife" style questions, and Wayne answers with the exact same answered he'd just given. It was a hilarious bit showing how unscrupulous video editing in news could make any public figure look bad.

Wish I could find it but my Google-Fu is not up to the task
