Cancel culture just got fun

Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon may lose their gigs as late-night hosts on ABC and NBC respectively for skits they did in blackface on national television.

Kimmel's skits were on Comedy Central's Man Show. Fallon's were on Saturday Night Live on NBC, which proves even the people at NBC don't watch SNL because it is an institution, not a comedy show.

The blackface skits are not relics of an earlier age. They are bad decisions by comics and TV networks that should have known better.

The Daily Mail reported, "Jimmy Kimmel has announced that he is taking a break from his late-night show over the summer, to spend more time with his family.

"Kimmel, 52, is facing increasing pressure to follow his fellow comedian Jimmy Fallon and apologize for wearing blackface in skits.

"He insisted on Thursday, however, that all was well with him and his family, and he simply needed a break."

The push to cancel the two Jimmys amuses me. They were poor second bananas but both fit in the profile for the demographic for network late-night TV hosting. White. Male. Brunette. Middle aged. Sometimes the job goes to the person who can fit the costume.

Kimmel merely announced a vacation while Fallon addressed the situation on his show.

Fallon said three weeks ago, "In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this. I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable."

There is a ring of inauthenticity to this. Last year, comedian Nick Cannon called them out.

On February 14, 2019, USA Today reported, "Nick Cannon has had enough.

"The comedian took to Instagram to wish everyone a 'happy BLACKFACE history month' and called out the two late-night Jimmys (Fallon and Kimmel) and Sarah Silverman along with Gucci, Prada and Moncler for using blackface.

"Cannon uploaded a collage of the comedians photographed wearing blackface and then posted videos of both Kimmel and Fallon performing in blackface."

Why didn't the two Jimmys address the blackface then?

But it looks like they are addressing it now. Maybe it will be a teachable moment not on race but on the cost of a cancel culture.

    1. You must have been following "Girls Defense" on Instagram, featuring many pictures of women serving in the Israeli military. How the men there can concentrate on their duties is a mystery to me.

    1. And today they crucify Johnny. He was pure nasty off set. Still funny though.
If you had President Trump tell the funniest jokes ever, these people would gouge out their ears to avoid laughing. So sad.

  6. Whats the problem? Up north the Canadians re-elected a PM who did blackface not just once but at least 3 times and one full body blackpaint. Pictures & video all over the net.

    2. The funny thing is, I'm Canadian and that has nothing to do with why *I* want the man and his party out of office.

Somewhere, a single tear falls down Barry Williams' cheek.

  9. I have no idea why blackface is such a trigger. If you're black, blackface is just a nod in your direction. No big deal.

    1. Trigger? Have you ever taken the time to listen to them. None stop gibberish. It is a subculture which will never be in tune with a Western Nation. Quit being afraid to see the truth it is your responsibility to learn these things that no government public school will teach you.

    1. Coconut oil makes superior popcorn!
It's what movie theaters *used* to use before the bogus “...it causes heart disease! AND!! cancer!!!” study caused them all to withdraw it.

Additionally, even the cheapest popcorn tastes high-grade when coconut oil is used.... Infact no variety tastes as good as that popped in coconut oil. And some strange things about that particular oil when used on popcorn:
      (1) the flavor actually improves over the 30hrs following the popping, hitting its "peak" at 26hrs (and only slightly improving during the remaining 4)...
      (2) the popcorn **does not go stale for 72hrs**! Just bring it back up to serving temp., and it is as wholesome and nutritious as when first popped. When testing, no spoilage was detected!!

It was the second point that convinced theaters in the 1930s to use the (at that time quite a bit more expensive,) coconut oil. Sure it was a lot more but the owner could "average out" his popping over the weekend, so impulse buying was always possible; while reducing waste to practically nothing *and* being able to use less experienced employees (teens) to fill popcorn requests/monitor the popper.

The two strategies together saved so much money that the higher price of the oil didn't signify.

That's why, over the last fifteen years theaters have been slowly and quietly been returning to it.

Just a fun bit of thrivia I thought ppl might enjoy!

  14. There are plenty of examples of white people wearing blackface in movies and television shows. All the examples I can think of were comedies where the person wearing blackface was trying to pass as black and doing it poorly. The humor in those scenes was not derogatory to blacks. Think of Gene Wilder in Silver Streak with Richard Pryor. The laughs are at the expense of Wilder.

These depictions are totally different from the old blackface of the traveling minstrel shows that were popular in the 19th Century.

My question: Will black comedians be punished for using "whiteface?"

  15. SNL IS a leftist propoganda show that has always mocked social groups that a few years later would be considered totally unPC.

Think about the skit and character Pat. Remember Pat? The humourousness attributed to this character was that you could not tell if it was a male or female gender stereotype. That humor would be thought of as very bad taste of not hate speech these days.
