The Houston Chronicle reported, "Houston employers are reversing course as covid-19 cases spike in the region, wary of infecting employees or customers as Texas officials push ahead to re-open the economy."
The story also said, "Texas reported nearly 6,000 new cases Wednesday, the highest increase in a single day. Cases are spiking particularly in the Houston region, where 497 people have died from covid-19. Local authorities reported 1,831 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the regional total to more than 35,000, according to a Houston Chronicle analysis of local health data."
That was on Wednesday -- 15 days after another event in Houston: the funeral of George Floyd.
The New York Times reported at the time, "A public viewing in Houston drew nearly 6,400 people, including Gov. Greg Abbott, nurses fresh from work dressed in scrubs, new fathers holding babies and Mr. Floyd’s high school classmates. Following Tuesday’s service, he was to be buried at the Houston Memorial Gardens in a grave next to his mother, Larcenia Floyd, who died in 2018."
The story also said, "Most mourners and public officials attending the funeral wore face masks. But the corona virus pandemic at times seemed an afterthought. Among the hundreds of people inside the sanctuary and outside in the parking lot, people hugged, shook hands and passed funeral programs and business cards."
Two weeks later -- the apparent incubation time for the virus -- Houston had to shut down the ending of its shutdown.
The Chronicle reported, "With Houston increasingly looking like a new epicenter of corona virus cases, local officials have encouraged residents to practice social distancing. On Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott asked Texans to voluntarily stay home if possible."
This helps feed the Democrat narrative that Republican states re-opened too quickly. The Guardian reported, "Texas covid-19 cases hit all-time daily high as Houston hospitals near capacity. Increase in corona virus infections prompted governor to tighten public health restrictions after resisting calls to slow reopening."
No mention was made of the funeral that spread the virus. So Democrats get a two-fer in this deal.
That black Americans have a higher death rate from covid-19 bothered not Al Sharpton and others who exploited Floyd's death for political advantage. Black lives only matter when Democrats can use the deaths to their advantage.
UPDATE: Like minds. Glenn Harlan Reynolds wrote today, "When Black lives matter to Democrats, and when they don't. Democrats say black lives matter but it's becoming clear they only matter sometimes, which explains why Democrats blocked Tim Scott's justice reform bill."
I think we all see through this charade.
I’m so confused. I thought herd immunity was a good thing. And I still don’t have any confidence I. And who knows what the true death toll is.
ReplyDeleteRev Al and crew will never see BLM as a problem. They are the cure.
"black Americans have a higher death rate from covid-19"
ReplyDeleteThis is due solely to institutional racism, according to the news I read. And the higher rate among Hispanics is also caused by institutional racism, NOT by their typically larger households.
One thing-there is esearch on the fact that
DeleteDark skinned people -Black , Hispanic, America Indian-have less vitamin D. which is a factor in resisting the Virus. I've got that problem.
I take vitamin D supplements-and others -just in case..
I am a 66 yr. old white male who has maintained physically fit for over 35 years, have taken vitamin supplements (w/vitamin D3) since childhood, and, as a microbiologist, have maintained an above average level of cleanliness. Even though I have a stent in a minor artery, I have never exhibited any symptoms of COVID. While I don't practice mask wearing and social distancing for the benefit of others, I have no fear of being infected.
DeleteCould someone tell me if these "spike of infections" has resulted in a spike in deaths?
JerseyJim
Answer: No. Deaths are down
DeleteWell here in Union county Or. we are pushing 400 cases we now have 1 death and it is in a care facility near my wife's this was due to a church that ignored any protocols. there were about five of their people who worked at the meat counter at Safeway it's all but shut down for now.Fortunately it seems to have abated somewhat. hot, dry weather here. Multnomah county (Portlantifa) has had many new cases-but not due to any protests. -Ok..
ReplyDeletethey shut Safeway down because those working at the meat counter went to the same church?? Are they also afraid that the virus spreads by raw meat? Well, that's easy to fix - just cook the raw meat.
DeleteNo just the meat counter. they are more afraid of getting sued than anything else. Also the people working there did test positive.
DeleteCaptain,
DeleteAs they said about racism, apparently, the demand for humor is greater than the supply. So, thank you for contributing to the supply because that was funny. - Gary B
Go out and play in the dirt. Your immune system needs the exercise. Gardening for us adults, anything outside for the kids.
ReplyDeleteGreg, Yes, indeed. Vitamin D is necessary for a robust immune system. White people absorb it more readily than blacks and Hispanics, which may contribute their higher infection rates. That may also contribute to the higher death rate among rest home residents. Either get into the sun or take a supplement. Our best defense is a strong immune system. Might make sense to get tested for our level of vitamin D. Hear any of the globalist, medical geniuses mention that? Nope. It's all about their agenda. How 'bout we create our own agenda? Easier said than done, I know. - Gary B
DeleteSometime in the last ten years, the lab I worked in went from a couple of requests for vitamin D testing per week to hundreds per day. I don't know just what in the medical literature sparked that or when, but it was long before the Kung Flu became an issue. Practicing physicians are requesting it on many if not most of their patients.
DeleteBut supplementation is dirt cheap, so Big Pharma has no interest in it at all. Be careful y'all, it can be overdosed. It's why polar bear liver is toxic for humans: the insane levels of vitamin D in it.
I've been looking for the spike in Minneapolis, but there isn't one. There's also no spike in Wisconsin, after courts mandated in-person voting.
ReplyDeleteThese spikes in positive tests are in certain states/cities, not all of them where protests took place. Is it possible there are other factors involved?
It would seem certain other factors are involved, possibly multiple other factors. One of the fascinating things about this pandemic is how many people want a simple story to explain a complex and unknown event. Our political and health industry leaders have complied, mostly with lies. And it is across the political spectrum - the different sides just grab on to different simple answers.
DeleteLove your perceptions. NationSavers.com is about to promote population stabilization by printing out first 2 pages and mailing - with checks - to conservative groups. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHerd immunity and flatten the curve are so last week. The new mantra is "shut down or die".
ReplyDeleteBucky, They already tried "shut down or die." Ain't gonna' work a second time. Go about your business and take a mask with you out of courtesy to others. And, along the way, don't forget to give them the middle finger every chance you get. - Gary B
DeleteThe number of cases is only important for determining the percentages of people who contract the virus that are hospitalized or pass-away. More cases could just be due to more testing as folks go back to work.
ReplyDeleteChollaman
Yea, it must must be coincidence that what had happened in Dallas and Travis counties a couple of weeks ago that would lead to a spike in coronavirus cases?

Now Gov Abbott has passed his quarantine authority to county judges. Pretty soon the dog catcher will have a say. Abbott is a real disappointment.
ReplyDeleteYep. He's giving off Jeb! vibes. I attribute it to being a politician and living in Austin... a leftist hell-hole.
DeleteAs typical of the left (who altho they say they love science work constantly against the evolution of species by ensuring that all threats are artificially removed thus actually weakening the species targeted) they are creating an artificial situation where we weaken our immune systems by hiding from exposure. This will keep alive and well and a constant danger to anyone accidentally exposed.
ReplyDeletePlus they neglect to mention the side effects of long term mask usage; lowering of blood oxygen saturation levels which means you are starving your organs of live sustaining oxygen and weakening your body's ability to respond to threats.
So many of the actions they have demanded have actually made it MORE likely to get infected than if we had just gone about our business.
