Highlights of the News

Donald John Trump is still our president.

ITEM 1: The Washington Examiner reported, "The nation’s focus during the corona virus on its economic reliance on China has prompted a big majority of swing state voters to back a Made in the USA agenda as they turn from worrying about their health to switching the economy back on, according to a new survey.

"Some 75% told Heritage Action for America’s new Project 2020 that they want manufacturing returned to America, as President Trump has often called for. Said the group, swing voters 'support bringing manufacturing back home to end our reliance on Chinese and foreign factories for essential supplies such as masks and medication.'

"In the survey of over 8,000 swing and persuadable voters in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Iowa, 63% said that they approve of Trump’s handling of the crisis. Just 21% disapproved.

"And they appear to support his gradual shift from focusing on fighting the virus to also reopening the economy, as well as a reliance more on businesses than Washington to lead the way."

Actually, the USA did a good job of containing the Red Chinese disease. Only New York City had a serious outbreak. But NYC is susceptible to pandemic, just as Kansas is susceptible to tornadoes and Florida is to hurricanes. We have tested more people than anyone, and most states have fewer than 10 deaths per 100,000 people three months into this.

The lockdown by governors has ticked people off. The Democrat plan to destroy the nation to end the Trump presidency will backfire. Protests in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are not from Biden's supporters. However, they do include Democrats.

ITEM 2Sharyl Attkisson compiled "129 Media Mistakes in the Trump Era: The Definitive List."

The highlights include:
"The New York Times and other media widely suggested or implied that Trump had not paid income taxes for 18 years. Later, tax return pages leaked to MSNBC ultimately showed that Trump actually paid a higher rate than Democrats Bernie Sanders and President Obama."
"AP reported that Trump had threatened the president of Mexico with invasion to get rid of 'bad hombres.' Numerous publications followed suit. The White House said it wasn't true and the Washington Post removed the AP info that 'could not be independently confirmed.'"
"CNN's Gloria Borger, Eric Lichtblau, Jake Tapper and Brian Rokus; and ABC's Justin Fishel and Jonathan Karl reported that Comey was going to refute Donald Trump's claim that Comey told Trump three times he was not under investigation. Instead, Comey did the opposite and confirmed Trump's claim."
"In a fact-check story, AP reported erroneously that Trump misread the potential cost to a family with insurance under the Affordable Care Act who wanted care from their existing doctor."
"CNN's Chris Cillizza and other news outlets declared Trump 'lied' when he stated that Trump Tower had been wiretapped, although there's no way any reporter independently knew the truth of the matter'only that what intel officials claimed. It later turned out there were numerous wiretaps involving Trump Tower, including a meeting of Trump officials with a foreign dignitary. At least two Trump associates who had offices in or frequented Trump Tower were also reportedly wiretapped."
After a while, my eyes glaze over.

Just assume that any absurdity reported about President Trump is a lie. The press is more worthless than an empty pack of chewing gum.

ITEM 3: The Washington Post reported, "Researchers tracking smartphone data say they recently made a disturbing discovery: For the first time since states began implementing stay-at-home orders in mid-March to limit the spread of the novel corona virus, Americans are staying home less."

What is disturbing is we have been imprisoned in our homes without a trial for six weeks. They said they would flatten the curve. We demolished it.

Experts said the hospitals would overflow with COVID-19 patients.

They were wrong.

It is time to get out and about again.

I have yet to see one newspaper shutdown during this lockdown that they advocate. They are hypocrites, all of them.

ITEM 4: The Wall Street Journal wrote, "People Were Leaving New York City Before the Corona Virus. Now What? Exodus would shrink tax revenue, which would hurt vital services."

I wrote about this April 15.

I said, "The financial center of America is now the epicenter of COVID-19 of America. Wall Street is now telecommuting. Is there any reason to stop once the all-clear signal sounds?

"The trillions of dollars invested in stocks and bonds can be bought and sold online. Why bother having a presence in Manhattan where the rents are high? Brokers are still needed, but they can relocate to less congested places that are less susceptible to Chinese viruses.

"Other corporate headquarters also will re-locate. Why would a CEO risk his health to live there? The Times story on Bristol, New Hampshire, did not say whether anyone in the town had COVID-19. I suspect no one does. The story said many people have their second homes there. They may wish to make them their primary homes."

Donald John Trump and Rudy Giuliani saved Manhattan and New York City. Liberals scorn them.

I do not see anyone saving Manhattan again.

ITEM 5: The New York Post reported, "North Korea’s male-dominated Kim dynasty may be about to hand over the keys to the Hermit Kingdom to a woman.

"With speculation swirling over Kim Jong Un’s health, all eyes have turned to his sister and closest confidant, Kim Yo Jong, as his most likely successor.

"Yo Jong may lack the bizarre, high-fade bouffants of the three generations of male rulers in her family, but she shares her brother’s secrecy and penchant for lashing out against political adversaries."

This is the woman the American media praised as "besting" Vice President Mike Pence at the last Olympics.

The American media loves authoritarians. This is why they scorn President Trump because he is the opposite of Hitler, even down to having a Jewish daughter.

ITEM 6: Fox News reported, "Democratic leaders in Congress continued on Sunday to remain quiet on the sexual assault allegations leveled against their party’s presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden, even as anger over the accusations mounted from the party’s more progressive wing.

"Neither House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., nor Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., have made any public comment about the allegations by Tara Reade, a staffer for Biden in 1993, that the then-senator from Delaware sexually assaulted her.

"Pelosi and Schumer’s offices did not return a Fox News request for comment."

I have no idea what happened but it should be investigated.

The same people who harangued Donald Trump for saying you could grab a woman by the private parts are disinterested in finding out if their nominee actually did that.

ITEM 7: Fox News reported, "Thousands of people in Southern California swarmed the beaches Friday to cool off from springtime heat amid the corona virus pandemic.

"Temperatures in the region have soared heading into the weekend, nearly reaching 100 degrees in some parts of Los Angeles County, but beaches there and in San Diego County are still closed due to stay-at-home orders.

"But that didn’t stop an estimated 40,000 people from heading out to Newport Beach in nearby Orange County on Friday, where the coastline has largely remained open to the public, FOX 11 of Los Angeles reported."

I hear they will be surfing at Del Mar, Ventura County Line, Santa Cruz and Trestle,  Australia's Narabine...

There is no justification for maintaining this unconstitutional lockdown. Quarantine Metro New York City and Washington -- and leave the rest of the USA (and Australia) alone.

And yes, it is Narabeen, not Narabine. There was no spellchecker when Brian Wilson wrote the song.

ITEM 8: Breitbart News reported, "The first phase of reopening the state of Virginia 'will be a two year affair,”' State Health Commissioner Norman Oliver said on Friday."

No Democrat governor of Virginia has been this insane since 1861.

The sane parts of Virginia should do what West Virginia did.

ITEM 9: Breitbart News reported, "The European Union’s chief Brexit negotiator says the British government cannot refuse to extend the Brexit-in-name-only transition period if it will not submit to the bloc’s demands in the current negotiations.

"Michel Barnier, a former French foreign minister, has expressed his irritation that the United Kingdom, which formally left the EU in January but remains subject to its law, its judges, and its Free Movement migration regime while the 2020 transition period negotiations are conducted, is — for now — refusing to extend it."

Britain should do what every abused spouse should do.

Just leave.

ITEM 10: The Daily Wire reported, "Three women believed to be among the frontrunners for former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate on the 2020 Democratic presidential ticket appeared on Sunday morning news programs, but not a single woman was asked about sexual assault allegations leveled against Biden by a former staffer.

"In fact, not a single one of the Sunday news programs that aired on April 26th discussed the allegations despite revelations from CNN Saturday evening that indicated the woman’s mother called in to Larry King Live in the late 1990s to ask the host’s panelists how her daughter should go about reporting sexual harassment by a male Senator."

A real champion of women would not need prompting by the media to speak out and say this needs investigation.

But Democrat women suffer abuse gladly. Bill Clinton's wife, Anthony Weiner's wife, and Client No. 9's wife all stood beside their man despite the very public humiliation of a sex scandal.

ITEM 11: The Daily Wire reported, "Mick Jagger Tells Paul McCartney The Rolling Stones Are Better Than The Beatles: One Band ‘Still Playing Stadiums, The Other Band Doesn’t Exist.’"

Fact check: TRUE.

The Stones survived and became the greatest rock band of them all.

ITEM 12: Yahoo reported, "Cowen analysts led by John Blackledge upgraded their price target on shares of Peloton, while maintaining their overweight rating, in part due to the results of survey which found rising awareness of the fitness brand, especially among younger cohorts. Meanwhile, Peloton announced that it set a record for most people streaming a single live class on its platform."

Last December, the experts said that commercial killed the brand.

It was $30.11 a share on November 22. It was $31.25 on Friday. That is despite 15% drop in stock prices overall.

What liberals called sexist was an appeal to women (and men) to hop on a stationary bike with all its bells and whistles.

ITEM 13: News Busters reported, "John Carney at Breitbart unearthed some Fake News from Politico. Their original headline was 'Trump owes tens of millions to Bank of China.' Now it is 'Trump owed tens of millions to Bank of China.' But that claim is still wrong. Trump never owed tens of millions to the Bank of China.

"Politico reported Friday that Trump owes millions to the Bank of China for a loan financing a building located at 1290 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan, which occupies the entire block between 51st and 52nd streets. The story said that the president would have to pay tens of millions of dollars to the communist-controlled banks because the loan was coming due shortly, which it hyped as unprecedented.

"There's a big problem with this. President Trump is not the debtor and Bank of China is not the creditor on the loan. Trump is a minority partner in Vornado Realty Trust, which took out the loan, and is not liable for the repayment. The Bank of China was one of a consortium of lenders in 2012 that provided $950 million but sold its interest 22 days later."

Sounds like Podesta peddled Politico a bum steer. No problem. They are still good. The American media could not care less about facts when it comes to President Trump.

ITEM 14: CNBC reported, "Tesla management has asked dozens of employees to return to work on Wednesday April 29th in order to resume production at the company’s Fremont, California car plant, according to internal correspondence shared with CNBC.

"The call for at least some employees to come back to work full shifts occurred even though local health orders require Tesla to adhere to minimum basic operations at that plant until end-of-day May 3. Bloomberg previously reported on the internal messages.

"In Fremont, health orders have not been relaxed in any way yet, according to Sgt. Ray Kelly, a public information officer for Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. State and local authorities are expected to update residents and businesses by May 3 as to whether the orders will be extended, relaxed or entirely lifted, he said."

Open the plant up.

Open America up.

ITEM 15The New York Post reported, "GOP Sen. Tom Cotton suggested that Chinese students should be banned from studying technology and science in the US — and said he has little doubt that Beijing is trying to steal a corona virus vaccine from America."

The story also said, "Cotton is among a number of lawmakers who have accused China of downplaying the severity of the corona virus after first reporting cases of it last December in the city of Wuhan."

Cotton took a lot of angry, bitter venom from the press for calling out Red China months ago. He was right then and he is right now.

ITEM 16: Reuters reported, "Mexico has almost entirely cleared out its migrant shelters over the past five weeks to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, returning most of the occupants to their countries of origin, official data showed on Sunday.

"In a statement, the National Migration Institute said that in order to comply with health and safety guidelines, since March 21 it had been removing migrants from Mexico’s 65 migrant facilities, which were harboring 3,759 people last month.

"In the intervening weeks, Mexico has returned 3,653 migrants to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador by road and air with the result that only 106 people remain in the shelters, it said."

The human trafficking of illegal aliens is one industry that needed to be shutdown.

FINALLY: Via Daily Time Waster...

  1. Good signs, Big D. Went to the ROCS yesterday to support North Dakota oil by topping off the tank with hi-test (only brand the DTS drinks) and they were removing the gay plexiglass from the checkout windows. The DG was PACKED at 3:30 and only saw two masks. They had facial tissues and XL Hershey With Almonds back in stock. Made me wanna sing:

    My country ‘tis of Thee
    Sweet land of liberty
    Proudly I sing!
    Land where my fathers died
    Land of the Pilgrims’ Pride
    From ev’ry DubVee mountainside

  2. The Beatles are far better than the Stones. They know more than two chords.

    1. Not getting into this argument, cause I always preferred the Animals

    2. The Stones moved into their hard-groove rock, which has been wildly successful, especially for the large concert halls. But they never came close to the lyricism and sprezzatura of John and Paul.

    3. "We Gotta Get Outta This Place" Was #1, 50 years ago, in SE Asia.

    4. Not to be sacrilegious but hasn't Aerosmith been a more consistent band modifying their music over the decades better than the Stones?
And my favorite was always The Who!!!

    5. No one, no one was better than Led Zepplin.

      No one.

    6. AC/DC kicks all their sorry butts!

    7. Best live Rock & Roll concert I ever saw was BTO-man they kicked out the jams. The Who were also pretty awesome.

  3. Item #1. Mr, Surber: Did you tell everyone that Reuters, 3/12/20 said that Starbucks is investing 130 million in building a coffee roasting plant in Red China. BOYCOTT STARBUCKS!!!!

    1. Now what are they going to call it? Corona
Blend? I'd boycott but I hate their coffee any way. Got a Pot of Eight o'Clock Espresso blend in the kitchen as we speak.

    2. I believe this roaster was to serve the Chinese market.

    3. If Folgers was good enough for Mrs. Olsen, it's good enough for me.

    4. Starbucks lost me years ago when they didn't provide lemon juice for tea drinkers. If you're going to sell tea, you might as well do it right. Besides, people put milk in their tea, maybe someone likes lemon juice in their coffee. (When my coffee gets cold, I add orange juice to it, it tastes good.)
But will they sell to Chinese police officers?

  4. the Beatles...just another boy band.

santana- live at Woodstock- still kickin butt.

    1. The Beatles weren't exactly boys when they finally made the big time. They were veterans of the small venue circuit. Look up their time in Germany. They not only learned their instruments but experienced and learned multiple types of music, which enabled them to go way beyond their Brit Invasion love songs into rockabilly, Asian Indian, psychedelic, progressive, and more, which continued after their breakup (Paul and Richard I will admit stayed fairly poppy in their careers). Carlos is a damn good guitar player, and was always experimenting, but he never strayed nearly as far from his musical roots as the Beatles did. Stones? Not at all.

Trying to call one band or another the greatest of all time is like saying an orange is a better fruit than a pineapple. It's all according to individual taste.

  5. Items 2 and 13: "Just assume that any absurdity reported about President Trump is a lie."

Particularly if it is from the once-reputable New York Times or the Washington Post. That's sad because they were once the A-team of newspapers in the US.

But I don't feel one bit sorry for those papers. They chose to sacrifice their credibility. It wasn't forced on them.

  6. #1. We need a better border fence with Oklahoma.

  7. #8 "The first phase of reopening the state of Virginia 'will be a two year affair,”' State Health Commissioner Norman Oliver said on Friday."

North Korea is known as "The Hermit Kingdom."

Virginia Governor 'Klan Robe' Northam: "Here, hold my beer."

  8. Mr. Surber,
A few posts back you mentioned Iron Butterfly and today you referenced the Beach Boys.
I'll be singing that song all day long now.
    Muchas gracias!!

  9. 1: The Democrat plan to destroy the nation to end the Trump presidency will backfire. Protests in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are not from Biden's supporters. However, they do include Democrats.

Been saying this from the start. These tyrannical governors and mayors are even worse than Pelosi Galore and the Squad. If the Demos lose even some of the Beast's voters, it's all over.

    7: Ditto. No, muy ditto.

    8: Ditto, suh.

    10: You forgot Mrs Florio.

    FINALLY: Cute.

  10. #5 we haven't a Dragon Lady like her since the old "Steve Canyon" comic strip. She's trouble.
    #8 East West Virginia..?
Like Eastern Oregon should be Western Idaho..

    1. Mao's fourth wife Jiang Qing was a pretty nasty character in her own right. One of the leaders of the Cultural Revolution.

Empress Dowager Cixi, who was effectively the ruler of China during most of the last phase of the Qing dynasty, was also a pretty rough and ruthless woman.

  11. #10 - Client No. 9's wife divorced him not long thereafter. The most ludicrous thing about this was that he was paying more than $4,000 a night for his escorts. For that kind of money, he could have flown to Bangkok and signed up the entire cast of an orgy starring himself.

    1. Its hard to get away so long, you can't just say you are hiking the Appalachian Trail and expect to get away with it.

  12. 11. According to Malcolm Gladwell the Hamburg "nightclub" where the Beatles worked for so many hours was in fact a brothel

  13. Love Sidney Powell.

  14. #8. No Virginia Governor has been as insane as Northam, ever. The VA governor in 1861 led his state out because Lincoln was starting an illegal war.

You really need to get over your Yankee predilections. The northern story of that war is little more than, as twain, I think, said, lies agreed upon. In short, it's propaganda.

    1. Doesn't your stars and bars flag need ironing, or your lawn jockeys need polishing?

    2. "No Virginia Governor has been as insane as Northam, ever." Yes, I think that's true, but
Lord Dunmore (1771-1775) wasn't precisely good for the Commonwealth either.

  15. Item 11: Pfft!

  16. #2 The empty gum wrappers are recyclable therefor are redeemable, not so the press.
#4 NYC, the city of greed, deranged people and pestilence.
#8 The sheeple from Virginia don't seem to mind.

  17. Tesla in Fremont won't be going to work any time soon. They have extended the shelter in place until June 3rd. They may be able to cite they are an "essential service" but that is up to the vagaries of the county health commissioner.
