Highlights of the News

2020's NCAA brackets. (No Corona At All.)

ITEM 1: A Drudge linked article said, "Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and epidemic experts from universities around the world conferred last month about what might happen if the new corona virus gained a foothold in the United States. How many people might die? How many would be infected and need hospitalization?"

The bottom line is "Between 160 million and 214 million people in the U.S. could be infected over the course of the epidemic, according to one projection. That could last months or even over a year, with infections concentrated in shorter periods, staggered across time in different communities, experts said. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die."

Just remember, computer models made predictions for climate change and the 2016 election.

ITEM 2: Fox News reported, "Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has issued a decree to release 1,500 Taliban prisoners in coming days, paving the way for intra-Afghan peace talks with the insurgent group to end the 18-year war in Afghanistan.

"'The process of releasing 1,500 Taliban prisoners will be completed within 15 days, with 100 prisoners walking out of Afghan jails every day,' the decree announced Tuesday, adding that the release will begin Saturday.

Talks between the Taliban and Afghan government to end the war will run parallel with the release, according to the decree.

"Once direct talks between the Taliban and Afghan government begin, the Afghan government will release 500 prisoners every two weeks until another 3,500 are released, spokesman Sediq Sediqqi tweeted. The release of the 3,500 prisoners is contingent on a solid reduction in violence, Sediqqi added."

We pray that ending the war brings peace.

ITEM 3: The stock market went (flips coin) up on (throws dart at board) President Donald John Trump declaring a national emergency over corona virus.

What? He didn't wait 6 months for it to kill 1,000 people like Obama did with H1N1?

President Donald John Trump is no Obama, is he?

My wife said everyone else is staying in their homes self-quarantining while I am traveling about town with the top down.

Maybe I know something, but I am no doctor. Wash your hands.

ITEM 4: The Daily Wire reported, "On Friday morning, President Donald Trump criticized his predecessor former President Barack Obama for refusing to fix issues at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and allegedly making changes that only complicated the problems. The president told the public that his administration, however, has cut through the red tape and are now ready to go.

"'For decades the [CDC] looked at, and studied, its testing system, but did nothing about it,' President Trump posted to social media. 'It would always be inadequate and slow for a large scale pandemic, but a pandemic would never happen, they hoped.

"'President Obama made changes that only complicated things further,' the president said."

Obama loved red tape.

ITEM 5: Bloomberg News reported, "Two decades after President Robert Mugabe wrecked Zimbabwe’s economy by urging black subsistence farmers to violently force white commercial farmers and their workers off their land, his successor has thrown in the towel.

"Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has proposed settling all outstanding claims against it by farmers by offering them land.

"'The object of the regulations is to provide for the disposal of land to persons entitled to compensation,' Land Minister Perence Shiri said in regulations published in the Government Gazette Friday.

"The seizures that began in 2000 were ratified by the government, which said they were needed to redress colonial imbalances. A vibrant agricultural industry that exported tobacco and roses and grew most of the food the nation needed collapsed. Periodic food shortages ensued, inflation became the world’s highest and the manufacturing industry was decimated. What was one of Africa’s richest countries became one of its poorest.

"Almost 4,500 white-owned properties and others protected under government-to-government agreements were affected by the program."

Mini Mike should have gone over there and taught Zimbabweans to farm because he is the expert.

Or maybe they can learn to code.

ITEM 6: Politico reported, "A 'Never Biden' movement vows not to vote for Joe."

The story said, "In Michigan — a state critical to Democrats’ efforts to reclaim their general election footing in the Rust Belt — just 2 of 5 Sanders backers said they would vote Democratic in November, regardless of who became the nominee, according to exit polls. Four in five said they'd be dissatisfied with Biden as the Democratic standard-bearer."

Where have we seen this before?

Bill Kristol, is that you?

ITEM 7: United Press International reported, "SpaceX is aiming for a Saturday morning launch of its sixth cluster of 60 Starlink satellites from Florida.

"The launch is planned for 9:36 a.m. on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the company's Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The mission would boost the number of Starlink satellites in orbit to 362, by far the largest known satellite constellation."

Sooner or later, everyone will have a satellite.

ITEM 8: PJ Media reported, "Cook County voters go to the polls on Tuesday to vote for local candidates in the Democratic primary. Ordinarily, there would be little interest in most of those races. But one race has attracted more media attention and more campaign cash than any other: the race for state's attorney.

"Three major candidates have emerged to challenge the incumbent, Kim Foxx. It was Foxx's office that ended up dismissing fake hate crime charges against actor Jussie Smollett, who staged an assault with the help of two friends, claiming the attackers wore MAGA hats.

"Even for Chicago politics, the case reeked of influence peddling and special treatment. The questions led to the appointment of a special prosecutor who reinstated the charges against Smollett and issued a report condemning the actions of Fox in the case.

"The Smollett case hasn't been Foxx's only controversy. Chicago police were livid at the dismissal of charges, but it was only a capper to years of complaints against her catch-and-release policies, which included bail reforms allowing some criminals to go free without posting bond."

We are told we need to elect more Women of Color. Why? One ordered police to stand down and allow rioters to loot in Baltimore. Her successor is in prison for being a crook. Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Frederica Smith Wilson are as inept and crooked as anyone else in Congress.

The Carl B. Stokes Rule holds that if you are elected simply because of the color of your skin or your sex, you likely are not up to the job. He was lousy as mayor of Cleveland but was a good TV news anchor in New York.

ITEM 9: The College Fix reported, "Williams College suspended a male student based on his failure to pursue a relationship with a female student after kissing and touching her, according to a lawsuit against the private school.

"Both the unnamed Hispanic student John Doe and his accuser Sally Smith are foreign students. She accused him of sexual misconduct not because he acted without her consent, John claims, but because he was culturally insensitive after their amorous encounters.

"Adjudicators misrepresented the evidence in the record, ignored Sally’s messages to John expressing positive feelings about their first amorous encounter, and didn’t even correctly apply the preponderance of evidence standard, the suit alleges."

These capricious rulings send a message to men not to enroll in college. Given the need for welders and truck drivers, that might not be a bad idea.

ITEM 10: Ace wrote, "Fox is a garbage network that is very close to being MSNBC at this point and it is not worth my time to look for their feed -- which they never have -- while avoiding the feed from their only-slightly-more-liberal competitors.

"I mean, what, I should avoid Chuck Todd so I can turn on Fox and see Chris Wallace and Chris Stirewalt? F*** yourself, Fox.

"Go censor and suspend some more conservatives while making sure Donna Brazille receives nothing more than a talk from Chris Wallace and then gets to appear twelve more times the same night."

I worked with Stirewalt. Nice guy. Conservative. Then he got to Fox and kissed up to Megyn Kelly. Oh well. At least conservatives are noticing now.

By the way, the post was about President Donald John Trump declaring a national emergency over corona virus. He has been on top of the situation from Day One. Naturally, journalists report the opposite.

ITEM 11: The Hill reported, "The Washington Post's fact-checker column awarded four Pinocchios to former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday for a campaign ad that creates 'a false narrative that does not reflect the event as it occurred.'

"The column said the video manipulation distorts President Trump's remarks about the corona virus. The campaign ad says Trump referred to the corona virus as a hoax at a campaign rally in South Carolina last month, but Washington Post fact-checker Meg Kelly called the editing of the president's remarks a blatant misrepresentation."

Gee, I wonder where Biden got a goofy idea like that.

Here's an idea: Fact-check the media first.

ITEM 12: The Times of Israel reported, "Top Iranian cleric okays buying future Israeli corona virus vaccine.

"Naser Makarem Shirazi, 93, a Holocaust-denying hardliner and one of the highest religious authorities in Iran, says using vaccine made by ‘Zionists’ okay if ‘there’s no substitute.’"

How does this square with blaming Israel for corona virus?

ITEM 13: Fox News reported, "Now that the number of new people infected with the corona virus in China is slowing down, the country's Communist Party is ratcheting up threats against the West, with a particularly nasty warning about access to life-saving drugs aimed at the United States.

"In an article in Xinhua, the state-run media agency that's largely considered the mouthpiece of the party, Beijing bragged about its handling of COVID-19, a virus that originated in the city of Wuhan and has spread quickly around the world, killing nearly 5,000 people and infecting thousands more. The article also claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into the mighty sea of corona virus.

"The disturbing threats made during a global pandemic as well as the scary consequences if that threat becomes real highlight just how tight China's grip is on the global supply chain. Already, the Food and Drug Administration has announced the first drug shortage related to the corona virus. Though it did not disclose which drug was in short supply, the FDA did say it could not access enough raw components needed because they are made in China."

The media treated as a hoax President Donald John Trump's warning that we are too dependent on Red China. Never Trumpers cried Free Market all the way to dependency.

ITEM 14: CNS reported, "Joe Biden Advises Americans to Stop Hugging Each Other."

He hates competition.

ITEM 15: Offered without comment.
OK, the comment is, yes, pray.

ITEM 16: Florida Man.
Look at it this way, Floridians. At least it isn't Florida Governor.

ITEM 17: So that is what did them in.
ITEM 18: You can tell President Trump won when they complain about diversity.
FINALLY: His boy lives.
Wait indeed.

  3. 1. I predict that the Wuhan Flu will kill somewhere between 33 and 328,877,386(328.8 million) people in the United States. I made that determination without a computer model. I also predict that the surviving population, somewhere between 0 and 328,877,353 will all eventually die of something just as deadly as the Wuhan Flu or my Chili.
    5. Once they get things fixed, what is to stop the next Mugabe from doing the rinse and repeat? Fool me once...
    9. AND DON'T MARRY THOSE COLLEGE WOMEN. They are going to be loaded with unaffordable debt and looking for a sucker to live off of. That quarter million would buy a lot of thinks more useful than a degree in wimin's studies.
    11. The hoax is in not calling it the Wuhan Flu.
    15. Yes, pray. GOD answers all prayers. Sometimes he says no, but it is because he has better things planned for us.
    18. I think King posted that tongue in cheek... The cheeks being Barry Soetoro's bottom.
FINALLY... I often wonder about the people who got organs from my daughter.

  4. Well, Big D, I grew up in a basketball family (Dad was head coach at our high school and his four sons all played for him). We’ve had a family pool for as long as there’s been an Al Gore Internet. Actual traveling trophy, names engraved, the whole works. Two weeks ago I posted on the CBSSports fantasy site for our league that I saw three possible outcomes for The Tournament, which is what we call it. (If you have to ask which tournament, you ain’t a Palmer.)

    1) Play on, full on
    2) No fans, but games
    3) The whole damn thing is cancelled

Option 2 contained a clause that teams would be tested prior to each weekend and if anyone on a team tested positive, that team was DQd.

The state of Idaho was not going to have any teams in The Tournament this year, while our Mounties were definitely in. Based on the above, I hereby declare the WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS national champion for men’s basketball 2020! Huggs gets his first ring!!

    1. And you forgot Congress-creature Barbara Lee (D, CA-13). Longtime assistant to Congressman Ron Dellums, noted Communist-sympathizer.

Remember when Castro tried to take over Grenada, then Reagan invaded and threw a monkey-wrench into Castro's plans?

I am sure there were othe pro-Castro Americans in Grenada, but only one was stupid enough to be captured among the Cubans. She was carrying letters from her boss Congressman Dellums to Castro and letters from Castro to Dellums. Barbara Lee.

As the Millennials say, "sucks to be you!".

  6. #7 The circumference of the earth 60 miles up is 25,233 miles. C = 2(pi)r or 2(3.14)(4018) where 4018 is the radius of the earth in miles including the 60 miles you added 3958 + 60 = 4018.

      V= 4/3(pi)(R cubed) where 486 million is the difference between r= 4019 and r= 4017

  8. Why can't they just do a computer simulation of the NCAA tournament with fluky randomness thrown in? The results wouldn't be much different than reality.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ah Tschifty, Tschifty, the ways of The Tournament I must teach you. Fluky randomness. When UMBC (16 seed) beat Virginia (1 seed) two years ago, the probability of that event was ZERO because IT HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. Mathematically, fluky randomness is not at all helpful as a business rule.

  9. Honest question here as I'm no computer expert. Why would their computer calculations show more sick people and deaths in American than China? It is waning there and that country is not only WAY more populous than the US, their health care and overall health condition isn't as good as the US. Something doesn't add up?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Short answer: It’s the CDC. Fake medicine, fake numbers, and of COURSE they didn’t run that same simulation in China. Because ChinkCommies good, Deplorables bad.

    3. Gar, you're right. China is 3 times our population. Their health care system is worse than ours. Their govt screwed up worse than ours.
We won't get a higher death count than them.
Currently 3200 total in China. Adding maybe 10 per day.
