NYT panics over 2020 race

Tom Friedman screamed out to his readers in the New York Times this morning in panic. He told them the Orange Man will win if we don't do something. We gotta do something. Now, now, now.

He sees the problem as a divided Democrat Party.

He is totally wrong, but his solution was so simplistic that it amused me. He said build a Team of Rivals, the phrase Gore Vidal used to describe Lincoln's cabinet. Doris Kearns Goodwin revived the term for 21st century TV audiences.

Friedman's prescription was to have the nominee (Mini Mike or Breadline Bernie) tell the nation, "I want people to know that if I am the Democratic nominee these will be my cabinet choices — my team of rivals. I want Amy Klobuchar as my vice president. Her decency, experience and moderation will be greatly appreciated across America and particularly in the Midwest."

Translation: we need a woman to balance the ticket, and she is the least insane choice available.

Going further, the nominee would say, "I want Mike Bloomberg (or Bernie Sanders) as my secretary of the Treasury."

Only in Friedmandonia would a capitalist CEO be interchangeable with a communist congressional lifer.

The column went on, "I want Joe Biden as my secretary of state."

Biden's expertise is in trading foreign aid for million-dollar, no-show jobs for family members.

The column went on, "I will ask Elizabeth Warren to serve as health and human services secretary. "

She has no experience in this field. She does know business law and banking. But she is a woman and women make great nurses, right?

And on Friedman went, recommending Kamala Harris for attorney general, even though she was a disaster as a California attorney general who went after pot smokers and racked up false convictions. Cory Booker, the failed mayor of Newark, would head HUD. On the list he went with a superficiality one might expect from a liberal. He ended with William H. McRaven as defense secretary based on a column he wrote in the Washington Post.

With the exception of Mini Mike and Admiral McRaven, they are all senators which means they have no management skills. The deep state will run itself again.

But this is a bad prescription for the wrong problem.

Democrats are united as never before. The debates and the recent assemblages of legislatures in New York state and Virginia have made that clear.

They stand for:
Open borders
Gun confiscation
Infanticide
Reparations
Welshing on student loans
Wealth confiscation
Ending bail
Pooping in the streets
Banning automobiles
Banning plastic
None of those things appeals to most Americans. Combined they are a disaster for the party.

The problem is not that they are divided. The problem is that they are united behind bad, counter-productive, and idiotic ideas.

He ended his column, "If they don’t join together — if the Democrats opt for a circular firing squad — you can kiss the America you grew up in goodbye."

Really?

This is the America we grew up in, where drag queens host readings for toddlers at libraries? Where a judge in Texas orders a 7-year-old boy to be doped up with hormone-bending drugs because his mom wants to get back at her ex by turning his son into a daughter? Where a CEO loses his job because of a $1,000 campaign donation to a popular cause? Where the government sues the Little Sisters of the Poor to force them to buy birth control? Where a president is impeached not for any crime but over a phone call? Where the previous president tells laid off factory workers their jobs are not coming back, ha ha ha? Where saying all lives matter is racist but saying black lives matter is not?

I do not know what America Friedman grew up in, but if it were anything like the one we are in now, I feel so darned sorry for him because surely, as his column showed, it gave him PTSD.

Team of rivals? Try team of rejects.

Panic has set in because Democrats are about to be wiped out like Republicans were in 1932. Americans may not like the tweets and the taunts, but they do like the jobs and the patriotic pride Donald John Trump promised and delivered. The effect will last longer than Reagan's because Mike Pence is no George H.W. Bush, and Democrats have no centrist like Kennedy or someone who can pretend to be centrist like Bill Clinton.

  1. Two things. First, he will never, ever advise the clown car passengers to do the same with potential nominees to the Supreme Court. Second, we have already seen the Biden as Secretary of State movie. It starred John Kerry, another guy who has been wrong on every significant foreign policy matter since he first entered public life.

    3. Recall that obozo staffed a big chunk of his original cabinet from the Senate - probably because they were the only people he knew. And he went back there for replacements (like JFK-lite replacing HRC).

Weird how mr. and mrs. obozo apparently had no friends.

    1. Thanks Don. People who can't speak without using common obscenities remind me of Mark Twain writing on the fine art of swearing. A steamboat captain he served under could rant for fifteen minutes without repeating a word. He kept a copy of Lyell's Geology close at hand. He didn't understand any of it, but it was a great source of words to use.

Indiscriminate use of profanity is as bad as the excessive use of all caps.

About a third (like blacks and Hispanics) support him (if you believe the polls).

Even half that would be major trouble for the Demos in their urban strongholds.

  5. Last night Joe Biden said 150 MILLION people have died from gun violence in the US since 2007! Half the US! How did I miss this blood bath???

    1. Yes, and that from the man who threatened to take Mr. T “out back.” The Very Sane/Stable Genius would show up with one of those kindergarten mats for napping, tell Joe to lay down on it, and the guy would out like a light.

    6. Some years back, some blithering feminist asserted that every year, four million women in the US are beaten to death by their husbands or boyfriends.

Add that to Joe's body count since 2007 and that's about 200 million. Even Mao couldn't manage that "achievement."

    8. Everyone makes stupid mistakes bu Ole Joe Biden seemly never realizes he made them or was inventing a time in his life. Like his "arrest" in South Africa. He may have been detained, supposedly because he resisted using the whites only entrance, but that is NOT being arrested.

  8. Booker is not a failed mayor. He was a pretty good mayor, particularly in comparison to other mayors of Newark. Booker would be better suited to head up HUD than Ben Carson.

  9. Pence is an interesting proposition. What will Americans want after 8 years of Trump? Maybe a squeaky clean guy like Pence, but somehow...don't see it. Ric Grenell tho might just be the curve ball that would drive the Left completely insane while winning suburbanites to add to the working class base.

    3. The Pub ticket in 2024 could be any two of:

      Mike Pence
      Nikki Haley
      Rick Grenell
      Larry Hogan (MD governor)
      Greg Abbott (TX governor)

And the good people of this country would get 80 to 90% of what they want. Compare and contrast to whomever the Dems would put up in 2024.

    4. I don't think Pence could handle the onslaught of criticism. If I'm right, he would turn into a Bush. Try to buy off the liberals and the media with liberal legislation. It did the Bushes no good at all, but Republicans are slow learners.

  10. Oh man, oh man, I want a turn! I'd say it's Buttigieg for President, cuz gay. And he needs a Karen as VP to balance the ticket, so that's Klobuchar. Isn't that just peaches? Two middle-America average-Joes like them?

Then, for funsies, I'd put Bernie Sanders as Secretary of State for the fun of watching the uptight Euros forced to grip-and-grin with a cranky old Vermont Communist.

Joe Biden gets to head the Bureau of Indian Affairs. No, not Elizabeth Warren. Why? Well, it's got a $2B budget and no one knows what they do. What a perfect place for Hunter to work!

Warren gets Sec of Interior because no one ever wants to hear from her again.

Every other Cabinet position gets assigned based on level of intersectionality. Black and lesbian and Muslim? You get SecDef! Gender fluid and undocumented? You get Homeland Security!

Funny thing about that Tommy, there were lots of us saying the same thing, had Hitlery been elected. Unlike Tommy, we were, and still are, right. TGA Trump won. Because his actions are turning this country back into the direction of the country that a lot of us grew up in, until idiot elites like Tommy changed it after Reagan left. GFY Tommy. All your education and world travel has not prevented your common sense from deteriorating into nothing, leaving only your elitist snobbery. Your grifting days are being threatened, and hopefully, will end permanently.

What's wrong with good jobs, safe borders, a strong Military, a JUST Justice system, good schools, a moral Nation, a NON-CORRUPT Government, and AMERICA FIRST?
