UPDATE: I wrote this before tonight's "attack" on USA bases, in which no one was hurt but the cows were scared. Iran now says it will not attack if the USA does not retaliate. In short, it is a half-hearted effort meant to save face. Whatever. Now to sit down and talk. This post explains why negotiations can begin.
THE ORIGINAL POST: Let me get this out of the way first. Breitbart News reported, "Iran TV: Mass Stampede at Qasem Soleimani Funeral Causes 35 Deaths." Gee, I wonder why people think Iranians are a backward people.
The alternate headline is Iran reacts to Trump killing General قاسم سلیمانی (no one can spell his name in English).
Instead of mourning the death of General قاسم سلیمانی, Iranians should rejoice. He is the Hue Jackson of military leaders.
Jackson went 1-31 as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Being the Browns, they did not fire him until he won a couple of games the next season.
General قاسم سلیمانی was so bad that even Tommy Friedman at the New York Times noticed.
On Sunday, he wrote, "Trump just ordered the assassination of possibly the dumbest man in Iran and the most overrated strategist in the Middle East: Maj Gen Qassem Suleimani.
"Think of the miscalculations this guy made. In 2015, the US and the major European powers agreed to lift virtually all their sanctions on Iran, many dating back to 1979, in return for Iran halting its nuclear weapons program for a mere 15 years but still maintaining the right to have a peaceful nuclear program. It was a great deal for Iran. Its economy grew by over 12% the next year. And what did Suleimani do with that windfall?
"He and Iran’s supreme leader launched an aggressive regional imperial project that made Iran and its proxies the de facto controlling power in Beirut, Damascus, Baghdad and Sanaa. This freaked out US allies in the Sunni Arab world and Israel, and they prevailed on the Trump administration to respond by tearing up the nuclear deal and imposing oil sanctions on Iran that have now shrunk the Iranian economy by almost 10% and sent unemployment to more that 16%."
Sanaa is the capital of Yemen, where Saudi-led forces demolished General قاسم سلیمانی 's forces in a proxy war.
He ran a porous operation as well. Friedman wrote, "Israeli intelligence had so penetrated Suleimani’s Quds Force and its proxies that Suleimani would land a plane with precision munitions in Syria at 5 pm and the Israeli air force would blow it up by 5.30 pm. Suleimani’s men were like fish in a barrel. If Iran had a free press and a real parliament, he would have been fired for colossal mismanagement."
At least one Obama official thinks Trump's strategy worked.
And James Holmes of the National Interest wrote, "The coming weeks and months may see irregular warfare prosecuted with newfound vigor through such familiar unconventional warmaking methods. It’s doubtful Tehran would launch into conventional operations, stepping onto ground it knows America dominates. To launch full-scale military reprisals would justify full-scale U.S. military reprisals that, in all likelihood, would outstrip Iran’s in firepower and ferocity."
General قاسم سلیمانی 's departure from Earth is President Donald John Trump's gift to the mullahs in Iran. Without General قاسم سلیمانی recklessly starting fights and unleashing terrorists, the mullahs can concentrate on making love, not war. They need to. President Trump killed their economy and the peasants (OK, the middle class) are up in arms. Do not be fooled by the funeral procession. Dictatorships are deft at PR.
But maybe Iran's theocrats are as dumb as Democrats. The president gifted the Democrats by giving them an opportunity to look bipartisan and patriotic. Republicans largely stood by Obama after Navy SEALs made Osama bin Laden room temperature.
But as Conrad Black pointed out, Democrats blew it.
He wrote, "The Democratic presidential candidates agree that Soleimani was a nasty man, but all the principal active candidates — Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, and Elizabeth Warren — have embraced the Obama Administration’s nuclear deal with Iran, in which Iran undertook not to develop a full nuclear-tipped long-range missile capability for 10 years. Under this agreement the United States released approximately $150 billion of frozen Iranian assets, which substantially have been squandered in underwriting the terrorist acts and infiltrations supervised by the late Soleimani — especially by the Iranian-sponsored terrorist organizations Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, and the Houthi in Yemen.
"Apart from being unverifiable, and giving a tremendous stimulus to Iran’s terrorist and other destabilizing activities around the Middle East, the treaty (also ratified by France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia and China), only dealt with fissile material, not rocket development or the perfection of a warhead. So Iran’s nuclear military research has continued apace, as it escalated its terrorist activities: a terrible and indefensible agreement the Democrats are now robotically defending."
Over the weekend, I wrote, "The media never gets President Donald John Trump right. As a retired newspaperman who does get President Trump right, let me offer the key to getting our beloved president right.
"Believe him."
Given his track record, he gets it right while the experts get it wrong.
After killing General قاسم سلیمانی , the president told reporters, "We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war."
There will be, if Iran's mullahs seize this opportunity to work on domestic problems.
But Breitbart News reported, "Islamic Revolution Guard Corps commander Hossein Salami said Tuesday that Iran is seeking revenge against the U.S. that 'will be hard, firm, regrettable, decisive and complete.'
"The major general was speaking at the funeral of Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani, semi-official domestic news agency IRNA reports.
"Salami praised the general and Iran’s promised response, saying 'today all humanity admires and praises him as a model of resistance and support for the oppressed. They want to throw the sun off, make a mistake by throwing rocks, and this is the tradition of the criminals of the universe who do not understand and cannot fight the sun.'"
We soon will find out if the mullahs are suicidal.

ReplyDeleteBREAKING...
New Quinnipiac Iowa Poll: Quasem Soleimani now in a five way tie with Biden, Sanders, Warren and Buttigieg.
Hahaha.
DeleteHIGH - LARIOUS!!!!
Delete...I thought, surely Big D was making another point about Iran through Swiftian extravagance. The guy’s name is SALAMI?
ReplyDeleteWell, I’d like mine with lettuce and tamayta, Heinz 57 and French Fried patayta, Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer, Well Good God Almighty which way do I steer, for my SALAMI IN PARADISE?”
Yes. No baloney, he's a salami.
DeleteHe could be toasted soon.
DeleteNo salami without mustard.
DeleteNB
Salami, Salami, BALONEY!!
DeleteI read that General Squiggle's headstone will read "Talk To The Hand"
ReplyDeleteJimNorCal
WELL, well played, Jim!
DeleteYou do know don't you that the Islamists in Iran want chaos? They want their thirteenth Imam to come and he won't until they create chaos, I think worldwide. So they are suicidal. It's their religion. And the murderous self-destroying bombers only prove it.
ReplyDeleteBJ, I believe you are correct, did you see the Iranian video yesterday with the complete break down and unbelievable fit thrown by the Ayatollah Khomeini, totally insane. I thought he would stroke out as it was bad, don't think this was fake news.

One down ....

He is the Hue Jackson of military leaders.
ReplyDeleteLOL then why take him out? If he never wins why get rid of him!!!!
When you push propaganda every day you lose sight of rationality. Plus Surber thinks he can tell Iranians what's good for them. He's like Bush/Cheney/Trump a neocon thru and thru.
Then he calls them theocrats as if its any of his business at all what religious views they practice. Unless of course you want to make the world over in your own image.
Which is the same as playing God something neocons long to do because they worship power.
Burp.
DeleteAww look. The stupid hypocritical dishonest troll has the sadzz for his buddy Suleimani. LOLGF you dummy. Why you defend your murderous buddy shows why you are a loser. A L-O-S-E-R!
DeleteTurn off your computer idiot, go upstairs to mummy and repair your relationship with her, instead of wasting time at a blog full of posters who know you are full of it.

Trump to Soliemani as he launches a hellfire missile: "You're fired!"
ReplyDeleteThe media blew their chance to be right. We have finally seen peak General قاسم سلیمانی
ReplyDeleteTrump has shamed and blackened the name of America Worldwide ..... how could anyone trust a Nation that breaks Treaties & agreements willy-nilly.
ReplyDeleteTrump has now murdered a man "Under a WHITE FLAG"
"There was nothing to suggest to the Iraqis that it was unsafe for Soleimani to travel (he had a DIPLOMATIC passport) to Baghdad – quite the contrary. This suggests that Trump helped lure the Iranian commander to a place where he could be killed. It is possible that the president was unaware of the crucial role that Soleimani was playing in the attempted rapprochement with the Saudis. Or that he knew but did not care."

LOL, more sadzz from the stupid hypocritical dishonest troll over his buddy Suleimani. Keep defending a murderous monster, and keep showing everyone what a loser you are. LOLGF you dummy.

I thought the name of America was already stained and blackened, which is it?
ReplyDeleteGo pound sand troll, you efforts are wasted here and no one is fooled by your feeble efforts. B.S.G.
And just like that, the Trump cult looks even more foolish as 10 rockets hit a US airbase.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever tire of looking foolish?

DeleteYou just can't help regurgitate the Iraq taking points from the last debacle.
DeleteMaybe we'll announce and then translate into Arabic a letter explaining that we're pulling out of Iraq, before claiming that was a mistake.
Trump is out of his depth and it shows. He doesn't have a clue.
Do you ever tire of looking foolish?
DeleteOf course they don't this is a cult and their mirror is broken beyond repair. Poor Donnie he is uniting Iran and Iraq and Russia with China soon to join in.
The neocons and their credulous fundamentalist hordes are cheering for Armageddon!
The cult here calls it 4D chess LOL. The next move is now with the Orange man....
Best. President. Ever.
DeleteSecond wave of missiles. The orange scum really had this this one figured out. What a complete and utter moron.
ReplyDeleteNo reports of casualties, or anything important hit yet-quit reading the Iran news site, Nonnny.
DeleteNow confirmed no Casualties. Nothing important hit.
DeleteTrump canceled his address.
Surber's 24 Hr. rule applies here...
The Donald will soon have to decide if he's god or not. If he doesn't respond the neocons here and everywhere will scream. If he does then its all out war much to their delight there is never enough shed blood to satisfy them.
DeleteTsk tsk he had the election in the bag until he decide to play god and replace American first with Israel first.
Time to top off the gas tanks asap!
Right, much better to replace America first with Iran/q First, they are such trustworthy allies, they never go around chanting "Death to America" or storming our embassies like those Juuz do.
DeleteDear Nonny;
DeleteAll they've hit is sand. They've clearly pulled their punch to keep from actually accomplishing anything to try and impress the easily impressionable.
PS: If you had been keeping track, the US is an oil exporting country now. The question is not can we keep the pipeline from the Middle East open, it's whether we can keep it closed. (Hint: we can)
"There won't be WW3" says the neocon blogger. Right.
DeleteTUCSON, Ariz., Jan. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a report that the Pentagon declines to comment on, six nuclear-capable B-52 bombers have been deployed to Diego Garcia, a British-owned island base in the Indian Ocean. This is beyond the current range of Iranian ballistic missiles.
Gee they forgot to pick up Surbot on the way. Too bad I'm sure he'd love to watch millions getting nuked cause AIPAC demands it.
For the rbbr idiot: you have no idea who stormed the embassy. You weren't there. Neither was I. We have no evidence at all. So quit acting like you do! Idiot.
DeleteAfter all the lies about Vietnam, WMD's, Afghanistan, and Assad using chemical weapons I choose to believe the opposite of what the neocons say. They are proven liars time and time and time and time again. Still you trust them!
You choose to cherish what neocons say. Absolutely the sign of hysteria. And you act like its fact. I know better I'm no fool.

DeleteDemocrats lack moral authority in anything today. That's why they insanely hate President Trump and our country.

Right...nobody was there who could tell us anything...
Funny how you don't address the "Death to America" chants--perhaps because you can't pretend they don't say that?
In the late 1970s-early 1980s, my little Jewish high school in NJ (total enrollment, less than 200 students) had a large number of Iranian students, whose families had fled from the revolution there. They were a pretty bright lot, and they were informed and informative about the situation.
>>> Mr. Surber needs to swallow his humility and acknowledge himself in his news highlights tomorrow...I' m stuck recuperating for the couple of months [thank you, mr. brown recluse], and almost leapt outta bed when Rush respectfully mentioned Don S.'s blog, like he was citing a long-trusted newssite...! ZBest
ReplyDeleteHuh? LOL.
DeleteFirst Words @unscriptedmike
ReplyDeleteIran fired off some missiles to save face. They knew there would be no US casualties. They’d never risk the wrath of Trump. And the fake news fired off some bullshit about casualties, because that’s what they do best.
And Trump? Trump wins. Like he always does. And so do we.

DeleteAll is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.
6:45 PM - 7 Jan 2020
Hmmm. Interesting. I'll wait until tomorrow and hopefully hear President Trump's address. The way things are shaping up right now I may have to concede that Thomas Wictor was right all along. The Middle East is, and has been for several years, all kabuki theater. Either that or the Iranian military is totally incompetent. - Elric

The image of the attack tweeted by Iran's Fars News Agency is actually a picture they gave to news agencies in 2017 when Iran struck ISIL targets in Syria. Incompetence seems to be the key-they just may have shot down a Ukrainian Boeing 737..

In killing Soleimani, Trump carved out his own exit strategy. Iran's effort to save face tonight is more evidence it's time to withdraw from Iraq.

Anons all look stupid this morning, enjoy your breakfast of crow. Make sure to have two servings so you can be more like The Donald. Two scoops! B.S.G.
ReplyDeleteAmazing that many dems , and others are upset because the general was killed. Like British officers upset at Daniel Morgan's rifleman picking off officers instead of the enlisted. Just shoot the E3s 4s, 5s. Officers are sacred.
