Men's Basketball Trumpenfreude

Basketball coach Gregg Popovich is best known to readers for being a ho-hum, run-of-the-mill, Trump-hating celebrity.

Now we can add to his resume the title of Worst Coach of the USA Men's Basketball Team.

Hahaha.

Oh I love it.

He finally got a shot this year at coaching the international team, after a rather successful career in the NBA.

And under Popovich's coaching, the team broke a 78-game winning streak, but that loss did not count against their winning streak in tournament games.

Popovich broke that streak this week, and lost again to set up a 2-game losing streak.

NBC Sports reported, "U.S. men’s basketball team loses again for worst-ever tourney result."

The story said, "The U.S. men’s basketball team lost for the second straight day at the FIBA World Cup, ensuring its worst-ever major international tournament result. It will be seventh or eighth place.

"The Americans, whose 58-game, 13-year tournament win streak with NBA players was snapped by France on Wednesday, suffered another defeat in a consolation-round game Thursday in China.

"Serbia dumped the U.S. 94-89 in a rematch of the Rio Olympic final. Serbia led 32-7 after the first quarter. Serbia advances to a fifth-place game on Saturday. The U.S. plays for seventh place on Saturday."

If this self-anointed "USA Team" loses, it will fall to 8th place.

Not having NBA players is no excuse. A nation of 320 million lost to Serbia, population 7,186,862.

But Popovich does not have to worry about a White House invitation. He didn't earn one. Maybe Hillary will have him over for her favorite meal.

Chardonnay.

  1. This was a dumb way to avoid a White House invitation from President Trump.

  2. Popoprick is the most overrated coach in basketball history.
He had the only two superstars ever that were willing to be coached and play team ball. Robinson and Duncan. Every other superstar is more or less like Carmelo Anthony. Well, having those two guys more or less guaranteed a team to go deep into the finals and to win some of them. And that's what Popoprick is given credit for.

Without those two guys, he's just another prick that thinks his shit don't stink.

He can't stand Trump's attitude. LMAO
If you want to know what Popoprick's attitude is like, just watch any interview he ever has given. The rudest piece of shit ever to walk the side of a basketball court.

  3. Of course the sycophants of the Honey Boo Boo president would refer to one of the best pro-basketball coaches (if not the GOAT) as a "Trump-hating celebrity". These are the folks who think Dennis Rodman and Gary Busey are important.

    1. You dismiss as a reality show host the leader of the free world but revere a basketball coach.

      Thanks for the laugh

So do Republicans esp. those here. You hate the Chinese, the Persians, the Cubans, the Venezuelans. and every single middle east nation save Isreel.

You love sanction wars to starve the poor and strengthen the rich.

So there's plenty of hate going around huh.

    7. You know nothing of the free market capitalism Trump is trying to spread. It's win-win. Trump's even said he doesn't want to hurt China - he just wants fair trade. In fair trade China is a winner too.

  6. My take: Pop doesn’t command the respect that Coach K did; Kobe, LeBron, Carmelo in his prime, all those guys wanted to play for Krzyzewski. Fair enough. But I gotta believe that Erin Popovich’s long illness and then death last year has hardened him in a bad way. Pure armchair psychology, I know, but Steve Kerr called Erin “sort of the balance that Pop needed” in his life. Hurting people say and do vile things. I’ll turn this over to God and see what happens.

  8. Steve Kerr is another Trump hater that's gained everything he has by being at the right place at the right time.

Face it. If Steve Kerr wouldn't have somehow wound up on the bulls in '93, nobody ever would have heard of him. He rode the coattails of those championships that jordan won to everything else he has accomplished in life.
Now he thinks he's qualified to stand at a podium and pontificate on the president of the US. Just like Poopovich.
