Dowager Dowd cries impeachment again

In Washington, where there's smoke, there's mirrors. After 67 years of living there, Maureen Dowd knows this. Nevertheless, she rode toward the smoke to cover the impeachment fire that isn't.

Readers of the New York Times expect self-righteous outrage no matter how ignorant and misplaced that anger may be. She delivers.

Fortunately for her the latest attempt to sabotage Justice Brett Kavanaugh fell apart within 24 hours of the Times's World Exclusive last Sunday. The Times had another Pulitzer-worthy story except for the alleged victim of the alleged crime does not recall a thing. But submit the story anyway. As they say at the state lottery, you can't win if you don't play.

The collapse of that story liberated her from having to write about someone other than President Donald John Trump. She is obsessed with writing Orange Man Bad columns. It matters not that every one of them is wrong. She fills a need for people who cannot accept an outsider as president.

And to Dowd and the rest of society in Washington, they are all outsiders. Even Obama. And especially Hillary. The wanna-bes like Andrea Mitchell may have promoted her, but the queen bee, Dowd, didn't. Her August 13, 2016 column, called Hillary "The Perfect G.O.P. Nominee."

America agreed and elected Donald Trump. DC is horrified.

The DCers cannot control him and they are too stubborn to work with him. So the Democrat staffers in Congress crank out these impeachment stories, which the reporters carry to their editors, who present them to ever-shrinking audiences.

She seemed weary as she began her column, "Everyone here is keyed up for the Big One. The One that’s going to finally bring Donald Trump down.

"As soon as the news broke Wednesday night in The Washington Post that a whistle-blower had accused the president of making some sort of nefarious 'promise' during a call to a foreign leader, the hive erupted.

"Democrats haven’t been able to get Trump on paying off a porn star to protect his campaign. They haven’t been able to get him on being a Russian agent. They haven’t been able to get him on obstruction of justice.

"But maybe this time. Maybe this was the One where all would decide that they wanted impeachment, that the president’s behavior was so outrageous that they couldn’t imagine this sleazy business guy sitting in the Oval Office playing a tinpot dictator in a tinfoil hat for another second.
Maybe this was the One that would finally move Republicans to turn on the Grendel who is terrorizing the village and gulping down their party."

It is nice to see her put her B.A. in English to good use but she should have put more Jonathan Swift into this saga because only an absurdist could put the obsession with impeachment in its place.

And that is the real story.

But throughout the column, she echoed William Faulkner's observation that every Southern boy at 14  fantasizes about leading Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. This time. Maybe this time.

She wrote, "If House Democrats can ever get their paws on the whistle-blower, maybe they can make up for the Judiciary Committee’s performance with Corey Lewandowski this past week, which left many wondering if these hearings designed to pry Trump out of office are just making Democrats look foolish."

But Dowd could not bring herself to mock Tweedledee Jerold Nadler and his Keystone Kop congressional committee. Instead she cruelly gives them and her readers false hope.

She ended her column, "So is this the Big One? We don’t know because so much has come before. But if it is? Now that would be Big."

Oh we know. We all know. Even a 14-year-old William Faulkner would know.

This is all smoke and mirrors. And the lesson from Narcissus is don't fall in love with that reflection.

  1. D: thanks for the literary references. Re Tweedledee… a couple of days ago, I noticed Hill's waist/figure in the photos of her at the fake presidential desk. I thought of that and the Nadler dude...and Tweedledee/Tweedledum.

    1. Tweedledum and Tweedledumber- GOC

    2. We had a couple of guys in the Army known as TweedleDum and TweedleF'nStupid.

  2. Pickett's charge succeeding was contingent on JEB Stuart crashing down on the Union rear.

    But Stuart never showed.

He'd come out second best at a place called Hanover to a kid named Custer.

    1. Never trust someone named Jeb.

  3. Dowdy Dowd has a greater chance of getting married than PDJT does of being impeached.

  4. Dowd's a downer, period. Being willfully ignorant is no honor.

So, not only did the US pressure Ukraine to fire their top prosecutor and stop the investigation into Biden's son, but they pressured Ukraine to give up information on Manafort and this.

Solomon has done some serious heavy lifting. Rest of media ignores. Democrats ignore and try to turn into a Trump scandal.

"US Embassy pressed Ukraine to drop probe of George Soros group during 2016 election"

"The focus on AntAC — whose youthful street activists famously wore “Ukraine F*&k Corruption” T-shirts — was part of a larger probe by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office into whether $4.4 million in U.S. funds to fight corruption inside the former Soviet republic had been improperly diverted.

The prosecutors soon would learn the resistance they faced was blowing directly from the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, where the Obama administration took the rare step of trying to press the Ukrainian government to back off its investigation of both the U.S. aid and the group.

“The investigation into the Anti-Corruption Action Center (sic), based on the assistance they have received from us, is similarly misplaced,” then-embassy Charge d’ Affaires George Kent wrote the prosecutor’s office in April 2016 in a letter that also argued U.S. officials had no concerns about how the U.S. aid had been spent."

"It turns out the group that Ukrainian law enforcement was probing was co-funded by the Obama administration and liberal mega-donor George Soros. And it was collaborating with the FBI agents investigating then-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s business activities with pro-Russian figures in Ukraine.

The implied message to Ukraine’s prosecutors was clear: Don’t target AntAC in the middle of an America presidential election in which Soros was backing Hillary Clinton to succeed another Soros favorite, Barack Obama, Ukrainian officials said."

    1. Totally right. John Solomon deserves a Pulitzer for the work he’s done on Spygate. Instead, he’s probably hired a bodyguard and sleeps in about six different places. Alles Heil Sieg Heil, Barack! Alles Heil Sieg Heil MoDo!

  5. They go running to the smoke and crash into a mirror. then they wonder how they got sliced to ribbons.

  6. The "exhausted" scribbles of of Maureen Dowd analyzed in Surber's post above are not surprising; she has shown an inability to read and/or comprehend matters while becoming rapidly overwhelmed in a difficult situation without adequate preparation before this:

  7. She is obsessed with writing Orange Man Bad columns

So? You are obsessed with writing Orange Man Good articles 24x7 7 days a week.

She will never acknowledge the good he does and you'll never acknowledge the bad. Same difference.

    1. The diference is I am right and she is wrong. Nomination? Right. Election? Right. Economy? Right. Judges? Right. Russiagate? Right. All this other BS you and your inept cohorts throw at him? Right, right, right.

(Sorry, ZRegime. Had to pop this pimple myself. Thanks for having my back)

    2. NP. Nice double double entendre. Go Browns!

  8. Funny thing is, she has a brother that does a guest column for her about once a year. He's a sharp guy and has both oars in the water.

  9. When the leftists all get together, usually after midnight, for cookies and juice they must feel pretty crappy about their best efforts getting shot down like do many clay pidgeons.

  10. This is two weekends in a row when the DNC/Media float a hit story on Trump and it flounders and collapses before Monday morning. What is different this time is it smears hapless Slow Joe and that part of the story is just starting. How is it his coke addled son got not 1 but 2 lucrative no show jobs trading on his family name? And that video of Slow Joe bragging about getting the Ukraine to drop its investigation on his son. How stupid can you be?

  11. I swear I read her article on a site that didn't name her as author and thought it was spot on PARODY of her ilk.

But when she called mayor Rudy "loony" and said this pathetic dig on the Presidenti I realized the writer was lSERIOUS "Crooked Donald thinks he can create a crooked Joe narrative just like he created a Crooked Hillary one. Which is it, Donald: Crooked or Sleepy?"

Only real loonies call our President "Donald" like they're pals.

This woman wrote an almost perfect parody. A stereotypical hateful spiteful insane Orange Man Bad piece.

I did enjoy the Beowulf Grendel reference but it's fake. She doesn't realize when she wrote the dc folks were in "overdrive-freak-out mode" she was describing herself... Since November 9th.
