Trump makes Baltimore the symbol of Democrats

Democrat Elijah Cummings enjoys a safe seat in Congress, so safe that the congressman thought he could front the clan that wants to impeach President Donald John Trump. In response, President Trump showed the nation how third world parts of Cummings' district in Baltimore is.

Baltimore's last Republican mayor was Theodore McKeldin, whose term ended 52 years ago. His successor was Nancy Pelosi's brother, Thomas D'Alesandro III.

The population was 939,024 and mainly white back then.

Now the population is 602,495 and mainly black.

In 2018, USA Today dubbed Baltimore the most dangerous city in America.

WJZ reported at the time, "The paper analyzed police crime data in the nation’s 50 biggest cities, which revealed Baltimore had the highest per capita murder rate in the nation with nearly 56 murders per 100,000 people—a record for the city. The rate outpaced New Orleans and Detroit, with a rate of 40 and 39 killings per 100,000 people, respectively.

"Baltimore’s 342 murders in 2017 was an increase from 318 in 2016."

On March 12, 2019, the New York Times published a piece by Alec MacGillis, "The Tragedy of Baltimore."

It noted that in the four years since the anti-police Freddie Gray "protests," crime ran out of control in Baltimore.

Of course, they were not protests. Even Obama admitted this, saying in 2015, "There's no excuse for the kind of violence that we saw yesterday. It is counterproductive.

"When individuals get crowbars and start prying open doors to loot, they're not protesting. They're not making a statement. They're stealing. When they burn down a building, they're committing arson. And they're destroying and undermining businesses and opportunities in their own communities. That robs jobs and opportunity from people in that area."

But Obama and his administration nevertheless sided with the rioters.

As MacGillis wrote for the Times, "In 2016, the United States Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division concurred, releasing a report accusing the city’s Police Department of racial discrimination and excessive force. The city agreed to a 'consent decree' with the federal government, a set of policing reforms that would be enforced by a federal judge. When an independent monitoring team was selected to oversee the decree, Guy was hired as its community liaison. This was where she wanted to be: at the forefront of the effort to make her city a better place.

"But in the years that followed, Baltimore, by most standards, became a worse place. In 2017, it recorded 342 murders — its highest per-capita rate ever, more than double Chicago’s, far higher than any other city of 500,000 or more residents and, astonishingly, a larger absolute number of killings than in New York, a city 14 times as populous. Other elected officials, from the governor to the mayor to the state’s attorney, struggled to respond to the rise in disorder, leaving residents with the unsettling feeling that there was no one in charge. With every passing year, it was getting harder to see what gains, exactly, were delivered by the uprising."

Democrats took the death of one man and turned it into the deaths of hundreds. Police officer retirements went up. Recruitment went down. The poorest neighborhoods became war zones and dumps.

Now President Trump has shined the spotlight on Baltimore. Instead of ignoring his tweets, the liberal crowd pounced, which only underscored his message.

Baltimore Sun quickly exuded an editorial, "Better to have a few rats than to be one." A couple of its white columnists came in on a sunny Saturday to denounce as racist the president telling the truth.

I doubt anyone on the editorial board lives in West Baltimore, which is the center of this tragedy. They belong to the Protected Class, as Peggy Noonan put it. They are protected from the adverse effects of the policies they embrace.

I wonder what they would think if their children went to sleep in a rat-infested house each night.

Americans know Donald John Trump is right. Cummings has represented Baltimore for 36 years in Congress. On his watch, parts of Baltimore slid into being rat-infested war zones with third world homicide rates.

President Trump pushed Democrats to rally behind Cummings. Baltimore is now the capital of this Confederacy of Dunces, as Jonathan Swift or John Kennedy Toole might put it.

  1. This is where speaking the truth takes you today. One might notice NONE of the big shots calling Trump a racist claims that what he tweeted is false! I guess the writers of these "racist" claims must think average voters accept that charge, that anytime anyone points out anything negative even though true of these democrat run cities, its RACIST. Beam me up scotty, no intelligent life here. At least among the pearl clutching press.....never trumpers nearly all.

    1. Ask them to explain WHY what Trump said is racist. The response (if you can get one) will basically be, "Cummings is black and Trump is white so therefore the statement is racist."

  2. The people of Baltimore elected a big bald rat to represent them in Congress.

When the House voted to find AG Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress EC got up and sanctimoniously denounced the vote as partisan politics and said the bill was a threat to our Constitution.

When the House voted to find AG William Barr in Contempt of Congress EC got up and sanctimoniously proclaimed that they were defending the Constitution and that anyone who didn't vote "Yes" was putting partisanship above the national interest.

I can't remember which hearing it was but EC got all teary-eyed because of the way the GOP was besmirching the honor and reputation of one of Obama's henchmen.

  3. The Zman refers to his hometown of Baltimore as "Little Mogadishu".

    And with damn good reason.

Yeah, that sounds right. Good catch.

I may have erroneously conflated those African hellholes when trying to recollect Zman's references.

      Thanks for the correction.

I must be rayciss or something for confusing the two, given how incredibly different the two cities are. Heh

  4. The real "racism" is the Dems hurry to associate "rat infested" with Black and Brown residents. This is a new kind of weird racist 'speak' invented to upset Black and Brown residents who live in "rat-infested" areas, I guess.

  5. Several factors led to the city's rapid decline. First school busing led to white flight to the suburbs. It left blacks in charge of the urban zones which then became ghettos. The war on poverty accelerated this along with the war on drugs.

Second the decline of two major industries there: steel, shipbuilding and shipping. The union labor force was decimated and is a shell of what it was. They priced themselves out of the market.

They were very successful in the 70s getting huge wage increases. But it backfired as the steel industry moved offshore seeking cheaper labor.

Then Bethlehem Steel went bankrupt in 2001. It was once the second largest of the industry. That's a loss of 300K jobs since the 50s.

Notice the population of Baltimore declined by about that same amount 1960-2019.

    2. Wikipedia sums it all up....

Once a predominantly industrial town, with an economic base focused on steel processing, shipping, auto manufacturing (General Motors Baltimore Assembly), and transportation, the city experienced deindustrialization which cost residents tens of thousands of low-skill, high-wage jobs.[180] The city now relies on a low-wage service economy, which accounts for 31% of jobs in the city.[181][182] Around the turn of the 20th century, Baltimore was the leading US manufacturer of rye whiskey and straw hats. It also led in refining of crude oil, brought to the city by pipeline from Pennsylvania.

    4. A guy I met in Europe told me when they wanted to replace steel decking at the steel mill it was cheaper to buy Japanese steel than American from the mill. So they bought Japanese steel. I live near Baltimore and I refuse to go there for reasons I posted in the #4 news roundup. Wherever Democrats take over, the economy and city collapses. Just look at Portland where Antifa runs wild; no police protection as the journalist found out.

  7. As I said 4 years ago, when Trump was in military school, he paid attention in tactics class.

He's changed the image of the Demos from a clean, articulate "light skinned" African-American with an Ivy League pedigree from a ritzy neighborhood without a trace of Negro dialect to a pack of Commie racist ingrates who are proud of the Third World sewers they've created.

If that ain't 29 dimensional stealth virtual ninja chess, I don't know what is.

    1. I'd say Trump didn't change the image himself but more that the original image was the lie that merely got exposed. All lies get exposed when enough light gets shone upon them.

What actually makes Trump a superior tactician is his timing to shine such light in such a way (like calling him racist, which to this day doesnt jive with the rest of his personal history) that everyone is forced to look at the substance. He did the same thing with the squad last week, much like Cummings they put their own feet in their mouths without realizing their own weaknesses, he forced pelosi to defend them, now the whole party looks weaker, and extreme.

Timing and substance of his tweets will always be his superior stock and trade, and not a soul in the political realm or the media realm will understand until its way too late. Not only are the initial reactions predictive, so are the secondary ones like these where people start to do the deeper dive after the initial shock wears off.

  8. It has gotten to the point that any criticism of the actions or words of a Black person is declared racist. This problem won't be solved until we can talk realistically about race. So that means never.

  13. According to the Washington Examiner and the Daily Caller, Cummings and his wife have set up their own little "Clinton Foundation" and have raked in millions from JP Morgan, Google and Prudential, etc., all with business before his committee. The Cummings' so-called "charity" and "consulting firm" also took in $11 million from Johnson & Johnson interests.

When the payments stopped in 2017, Cummings began bad-mouthing Johnson and Johnson. Don't know if it was a falling out over the protection money...or just the usual Swamp game: "I'm going to beat up on you now for the cameras, but don't worry, I'll take care of you when the legislation is written." Either way, it's rat-infested.

  15. They could have ignored Trump's tweets. They could have tried to show that Baltimore wasn't that bad. They didn't have to loose their schiff and act deranged. The harder they try, the worse they look.

A writer (I won't call him a journalist) for the Boston Globe said this in a column:

"Cummings’ district, which includes a large part of Baltimore is not the “most dangerous in America," according to the FBI, which ranks the city as a whole as the third most dangerous in the nation."

Perhaps if the pug-ugly old Cummings with the beautiful much younger wife looked into those Hundred$ of Thousand$ of dollar$ of donation$ that found their way into his wife’s bank accounts from companies before his committees and channeled that money to rat clean-up in his neighborhood, he would have something positive to talk about for a change.

  21. In Baltimore the homicide rate for young Black males age (15-34) >400. For some perspective, the homicide rate during the 7 years of the Syrian Civil War was ~350. So at least in terms of mortality risk, the city is literally a "war zone" as far as this demographic goes.

  23. I wonder what the Democratic Congresspeople were hoping to talk about during their sojourn back to their districts over the next 6 weeks? MD-7 was highlighted but that was just to break the taboo. Other districts in other states have problems and if you can question Elijah Cummings,...well.

In a Sun Tzu move, Trump has made Baltimore rats national stars, when the plague gets going, when, not if, in LA, minds will remember West Baltimore and Elijah Cummings
