Sanctimony in politics leads to violence

Violence by Antifa thugs in Portland, Oregon, this weekend -- while police stood by and watched -- is the result of the holier-than-thou approach to politics of Democrats.

Liberals created and fostered this atmosphere by branding the opposition as evil in 2016.

Topping the list were Hillary's basket of deplorables speech and Biden calling supporters of Donald John Trump the dregs of society.

Portraying their opponents as subhuman ogres gave license to their brownshirt brigade to attack Trump supporters, and the Antifa thugs have.

In 2016, liberals were not just trying to win an election but to punish us for daring to vote for someone other than the Democrats. Hillary and the rest fancy themselves as our moral and intellectual superiors.

Remember, she demanded to know "Why aren't I 50 points ahead!"

And when you lose to a subhuman, well, the game must have been rigged. Under those circumstances accepting defeat is a sin because you are enabling a lesser and inferior being to become president. You are complicit, a word that liberals started using to describe likeable people they could not demonize, such as Ivanka Trump.

Democrats began a resistance movement, which casts President Trump as Hitler and his supporters as Nazis.

The media promoted the resistance.

But the French resistance was made up of violent saboteurs. They were fighting a real evil. Hitler was not some guy who was cutting taxes. He slaughtered 12 million people in concentration camps -- real ones, not holding facilities for border jumpers.

These rhetorical excesses by the media and other Democrats fuel an anger that leads to violence.

John Hinderaker wrote, "The Democratic Party has abandoned all norms of civility and constitutional government. Somehow, though, liberals believe they are immune from having to live by their own 'new rules.' They sow the wind, but think they never will reap the whirlwind. Why?

"Liberals act as though they are spoiling for a civil war, or at least a slow-motion approximation thereof. Is that really what they want? Fighting in the streets? And, evidently, the restaurants? Do they have reason to think they would fare well if they actually got what they claim to want?"

As President Trump cements his presidency post-Mueller Report, Democrats worry. Two nights of debates -- for lack of a better word -- revealed a paucity of presidential material. If Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are the best you can do, maybe you should sit this next election out.

They are growing more desperate.

Byron York noticed this, too.

He wrote, "The toxicity of the resistance to President Trump has risen in recent days, with the nation's most respected newspapers publishing rationalizations for denying Trump supporters public accommodation and for doxxing career federal employees, while a journalist found himself under physical attack from the so-called anti-fascist group Antifa, which has stepped up its violent activities since Trump's election.

"The justification for denying public accommodation came from the Washington Post in an op-ed by Stephanie Wilkinson, the owner of a farm-to-table restaurant in Lexington, Virginia. Wilkinson became famous in June of last year, when she refused to serve White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders and and told Sanders and her family to leave the restaurant. Wilkinson's staff then followed the Sanders group in protest as they tried to find another place to eat.

"Wilkinson later told the press she ejected Sanders because the Trump administration is 'inhumane and unethical' and because the Red Hen 'has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation.'"

When you believe you are so right that opposing you is immoral, then you not only rationalize violence but command it.

York does not see this ending soon. He wrote, "Shunning, shaming, doxxing, attacking. As the 2020 campaign reaches full speed, would it surprise anyone to see all of it increase? And all from people who congratulate themselves for standing against hate. Perhaps our politics will cool down at some point in the future. But not now."

I trust a landslide for President Trump and an unassailable Republican majority in each chamber of Congress would help quell the violence.

But even my unusually abundant amounts of optimism won't cover a bet that a big defeat would teach them a darned thing.

This has been going on for better than 50 years. William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn came out of that attitude.

Remember the creeps who used to phone the parents of soldiers killed in 'Nam, saying, "He got what he deserved. He was a paid killer."?

Maybe it's time to give the Left what they have deserved.

    1. How many times have you heard the canard that the French Revolution was superior to the American one?

  2. The fantasy of creating a republic of virtue was the justification for drowning priests by the boatload and firing grapeshot at women and children while guillotining their husbands and fathers not so long ago.

The French got John Adams all wrong the same way Charlie the tuna misunderstood Starkist. He said that republics flourished with good people, not that republics could make people good. Having the right politics doesn't turn a sadistic violent perverted sociopath into a good person. It just shows the world a sadistic violent perverted sociopath that has pretensions to power and virtue.

    2. The fantasy of creating a republic of virtue....

Frankly that's been ongoing in America since the advent of the public school. Horace Mann was behind that and openly admitted that schooling was to make people GOOD.

Decades later Progressives arrived freshly armed with religious fervor. The immediately began with the income tax and the central banking cartel to centralize power in DC

Then FDR, LBJ, and Nixon with their regulatory powers to make people safe, wars on the poor, the war on drugs because they are no good, and the environment.

This is a bipartisan effort that is only now coming to a head. EAch party in power takes turns to enact one size fits all laws that make people better.

Trump placates the Right on social issues and spends like a drunken sailor. The Baby Boomers will be the ones to pay in the end.

Foreign policy has been for a generation about making people good by exporting democracy. If you aren't democratic you're evil and must be bombed.

Both parties are run by the CFR when it comes to regime change and virtue operations. Nobody ever criticizes the CFR. Not even after Iraq and Nam.

For who is really running the nation I always look to who you cannot criticize.....

      The CFR
      The FED
      The CIA and the military

    3. The Baby Boomers won't pay for it. We're hitting retirement age. Our kids and grandkids will get stuck with the tab that's been piling up for the last 40 years.

One of the best phrases you have written, Don. And all too true.

I suspect this state of affairs will continue so long as our politics are in a relative state of deadlock, which is an odd and rare state of affairs.

Only when one side massively defeats the other at the ballot box and culturally is on the offensive will this change.

    1. Honestly I see that happpening-look at the Cajoles the Republicans jsut sprouted in Oregon, and the Dems caved.
PDJT is leading us out of the abyss in my opinion, when we hear about th eleft winning, is it real Portland?
How abut Lubbock? or Sedalia home of Missouri State which shot itself in its SJW hoof.? Lexington Ky.? Burns, Oregon? Lots of places and eve big places are not in the pile of manure.
Also do not believe it is still 50/50
      The Dems are self destructing..

  4. I too expect a landslide for PDJT, along with fear of massive fraudulent voting undermining the will of the people.

The leftist violence is going to blow up in their faces. Sometime soon, they are going to attack the wrong target and the hammer will come down hard.

    1. Unfortunately the civil rights laws do not cover Republicans or conservatives; they are not a protected class. So not baking a cake for a gay is not looked at the same way as denying service to a conservative under the rule of law.

  6. antifa is threatening acid attacks in DC. They need to be shot and any police officer who stands by and watches the violence should be shot too. They are no longer officers of the law, but, officers of the lawless.
We could end up with a real civil war if this gets carried away.

  7. I will be MOST anxious to see how the parents of the 3 Portland terrorists react now that their precious little snowflakes have been booked. I’m no torts expert but believe they (and others caught on tape) can be held individually as well as Portland Antifa jointly. Sue the fooking hell out of them.

  8. Outside of Portland do the Portland police brag about who they are? They are just Broward county deputies on the west coast.

  9. Lawfare time. No being "gracious" when spit upon, make sure charges are filed. Then, file a civil suit for cost of cleaning.
Sue them until their heads spin.

  11. This is the best sum-up I’ve seen showing how these tools think we who disagree with them are Nazis – when it’s they who are behaving like Nazis. The SS came for the subhuman slavs; Antifa is coming for us subhuman deplorables. The parallels couldn’t be clearer.

    Well done, Don Surber.

  12. Why do Antifa have the support, or at least the benign neglect, of the police? If these were right wing protesters the police would have rounded them up (and probably tazed them) in the blink of an eye. What's in it for the police to support Antifa?

    1. A lot of the Portland police have been resigning and getting jobs elsewhere; I recall a story a month or so ago about the growing vacancies there that haven't been filled and it's only getting worse. Can't happen quick enough, sez I.

  13. Antifa tried wearing masks at a rally at Auburn U. not that long ago. There's a video circulating on Twitter showing the Alabama State Police forcing them to take off the masks or get arrested. The snowflakes were very unhappy and some needed persuasion, but eventually complied. This is why Oregon needs a mask low.
