Private investigator clears Covington boys

The Covington Catholic High School boys did nothing wrong when they visited the National Mall, a private investigator found. The facts are contrary to media reports at the time of felonious smirking by their ringleader and misdemeanor MAGA hatting by the rest.

The diocese had condemned and nearly ex-communicated the boys based on initial media reports.

At least one of the boys plans to sue the diocese for defamation.

Fox News reported, "The inquiry, conducted by Greater Cincinnati Investigation Inc., found that the accounts of Nick Sandmann, his classmates and the chaperones on their trip to the nation’s capital were consistent with videos that circulated online showing that it was they who were harassed by a group of so-called Black Hebrew Israelites."

The diocese hired the firm.

According to Fox News, the report said, "Some of the students asked the chaperones if they could do their school cheers to help drown out the Black Hebrew Israelites. After the interaction with the Black Hebrew Israelites, Mr. [Nathan] Phillips approached the students."

Phillips was the Indian who chanted and beat his tom-tom as he got in Sandmann's personal space, which the media reported as a hate crime by Sandmann.

The private investigator said, "We found no evidence of offensive or racist statements by students to Mr. Phillips or members of his group."

Since then, the Rev. Roger Foys, the bishop of Covington, told parents, "The immediate world-wide reaction to the initial video led almost everyone to believe that our students had initiated the incident and the perception of those few minutes of video became reality.

"In truth, taking everything into account, our students were placed in a situation that was at once bizarre and even threatening."

Yep.

I am no theologian but it seems like Sandmann turned the other cheek -- just like Jesus would.

    Hell of a kid.

He'll be a good man, a good Catholic, and father of a big family.

  3. I am a theologian, and I can state quite unequivocally that the Diocese owes Mr. Sandmann a college education on them.

    1. I am thinking some old fashioned penance, the physical type with hairshirts and self-flagellation, should be the order of the day for the bishop and the rest of the diocesan leadership. Made a pilgrimage on foot to a shrine.

  5. Two questions.

Why did the Sandmann's hire a public relations firm to write the letter tha Nick Sandmann signed as his own?

Why did the family hire a law firm to threaten all Americans exercising 1st Amendment rights by saying something negative about their son - including the the elderly Omaha tribesman and perhaps about Covington's blackface tendencies?

The diocese wanted a coverup and they bought one.

    1. Get off the barstool and rewrite your comment. Everything in it is loaded with assumptions, personal prejudices, virtue signaling BS, and incoherence. Do you just wait until your face is nearly busting with hatred and anger before you post?

Cool off a bit first. Let the alcohol work its way out of your pores and liver. Then post.

    3. 1. You would hire a public relations firm too if your fifteen-year-old son was just vilified by virtually every news outlet in the US, and received credible threats of being boycotted by colleges. Them's called "damages", son.

      2. Libel is not a First Amendment right.

    4. Because slander and libel are crimes. That is why you hire a specialist to send the demand letter. Opinion is one thing, misrepresentation of the facts is another. You are entitled to your opinion, you are not entitled to your own interpretation of the facts.

    5. I am going to let the lawyers for these kids know you are continuing to spread the lie that those kids did anything wrong. Enjoy!

  6. Some of the boys, according to the report, had bought Obama "Hope" hats in the past.

I wonder if CNN will make that a headline.
