Left may target Pelosi

Ruth Graham at Slate filed an odd report this week, "Nancy Pelosi Keeps Quoting Her Favorite Bible Verse. The Mystery: It’s Not Actually in the Bible."

What's weird is that story has been around for more than a decade.

CNS News reported on July 7, 2008, "Biblical Scholars Challenge Pelosi's 'Scripture' Quote."

The quote in question is "To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us."

It is in the Bible right next to "Thou shalt abort."

But her fake Bible verse is politically useful. It can rationalize Earth Day celebrations and illegal immigration.

Graham in her new piece at Slate wrote, "It’s easy to see why the line is useful for a politician. It suggests that to do any kind of earthly good — 'to minister to the needs of God’s creation' — is a holy act. The quote is a dollop of ancient wisdom on top of a dry discussion of policy. It’s the next best thing to the Prophet Isaiah himself appearing on the House floor to, say, oppose a particular iteration of the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013 ('to ignore those needs, as this bill does, is to dishonor the God who made us')."

While the story is interesting and many readers may not have known about it, the timing is odd.

Pelosi just made a historic return to the speakership after roaming eight years in the backwaters of Washington.

But she finds herself in the same place John Boehner was in eight years ago when 63 freshmen congressmen swept him to power. Most were Tea Party people who had this radical idea that we should repeal Obamacare.

Pelosi took notes. She has largely headed off her radicals. Unlike Boehner, her passions are not smokes, booze, and golf. She likes power.

She also likes belittling her opponents.

Fox News reported, "Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., unveiled her much-touted Green New Deal on Thursday -- a package of far-reaching, big-government proposals like health care for all, federal job guarantees and a push to eliminate U.S. carbon emissions -- but it’s already receiving shade from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"'It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,' Pelosi told Politico on Wednesday. 'The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?'"

Actually you have to pass it so see what's in it.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez later took the plan offline after people mocked her concerns about farting cows.

But while Nancy won the day, communists are well-known for their long game. Maybe Graham simply found a story that is cute. Or maybe it is part of a plan to discredit her.

If so, good luck toppling her. She's old enough to be AOC's grandmother.

  3. Back where we were in the 70s. The Establishment wins, but it costs them. Of course, if the crazies win, it costs them.

To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.

To paraphrase the immortal words of Peter Joshua, that's not in the Bible.

Of course, she made it up.

    Why? Because it's terrible.

    1. Here's another Bible verse:

"And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword." - Joshua 6:21

The Lefties had better re-read their Bibles before they declare war on religion and conservatives. It isn't all unicorns and rainbows for the enemies of the pious and God-fearing.

  4. Ahh, palace intrigue... the pressing question for me is who's pulling the strings on the AOC puppet?

  5. Pelosi’s quote is totally Biblical. It goes on to require every believer to sacrifice two polar bears or five snail darters.

Now why don’t Republican representatives start quoting passages from Two Hezikkaiah. They can say it comes a few verses after the Majority Leader’s bit.

And when will the enemy of the people reprise their outrage over Two Corinthians?

  6. Is that another Ruth Graham, or the same one that was Maude to Bud Cort's Harold?

  7. I had exactly the same reaction to the story as you did: the long knives are out for Nancy.

So. Will AOC be the next Speaker? PLEASE, GOD, PLEASE!!!

  8. Not too much to worry about. It's not like Pelosi said she's never asked God for forgiveness or paid hush money to hookers, like the orange messiah.

    1. Paying is no indication of guilt.

As your 2 last (and I use the word loosely) Presidents have proven.

And how do we know Pelosi Galore hasn't paid any hush money?

I can't stand Pelosi, but you have to give her credit. She knew this thing was a disaster, and she ridiculed AOC right to the press. I wish we had had a speaker that was 1/10 as effective as she is.

If SanFranNan was conservative, we would have the whole wall...
