Grifting for another SS Weekly Standard to sink

Having sank the Weekly Standard as its editor by insisting President Donald John Trump isn't a conservative long after the president proved his street cred on Reagan Lane, Steve Hayes is looking for backers for a new magazine for the Never Trump crowd.

Hayes leaked the news to the lefty Axios site.

(The website the graphic is from has not posted since June 21, 2016.)

Paul Blest wrote a post, "Finally, the Conservative Journalism Startup No One Asked For."

That was so unkind. I'll bet in the 1980s that Blest was one of those who didn't rewind.

He mocked this statement from Hayes, “We believe there’s a great appetite on the center-right for an independent conservative media company that resists partisan boosterism and combines a focus on old-school reporting with interesting and provocative commentary and analysis.”

Blest wrote, "Apparently, having this deeply outdated and unpopular perspective wildly overrepresented in the op-ed pages of every major newspaper (and on the panels of all of the worst political shows on cable news) isn’t good enough anymore. No, we need a Weekly Standard 2 that does the hard, necessary work of the American center-right: agitating for war with whatever country seems convenient at the time and whining incessantly about the goings-on at college campuses while also making a big stink face when Trump does a bad tweet."

Jonah Goldberg also is on board the SS Weeekly Standard II headed for Fantasy Island.

Mike Allen of Axios wrote, "Goldberg and Hayes tell me they plan a reporting-driven, Trump-skeptical company that will begin with newsletters as soon as this summer, then add a website in September, and perhaps ultimately a print magazine."

They are looking for investors. In other words, they have an idea but no money, like 320 million other Americans.

Rick Moran wrote, "My guess is that Goldberg and Hayes are looking for one investor — a deep-pockets angel who will finance their anti-Trump indulgences while losing a couple of million a year."

That investor does not exist. If he did, he would have bought the original SS Weekly Standard.

  1. Hayes probly also believes they haven't looked hard enough for "Russian Collusion".

    Literally.

  2. So.

The democrats, clinton grifters, sundry other uniparty scum, got their conduits for payoffs, bribes, scams and kickbacks via "donations" type vehicles, aka Breaking Bad level money laundering, and these knuckleheads can't figure out any better way then begging?

    Sad.

  3. Actually, that investor does exist. It's just he's already financing The Bulwark, and has Cruise Director Bill and most of the rest of the Weekly Standard's crew, so what does he need Goldberg and Hayes and their project for?

  4. All that said, I'm particularly sad and infuriated to see Goldberg come to this. I liked him and enjoyed his writing. He wrote Liberal Fascism. And now, with the left's masks off and the premise of the book proven for all to see... he's more concerned about Donald Trump being a jerk to people.

    1. I liked the ideas behind the book Liberal Fascism, but just couldn't read the whole thing.

Lost interest around halfway through, put it down, never picked it back up again except to put in the donation bin at the local library.

  7. Instead of calling it “Never Trump Magazine”, why don’t they call it “Ever Shrinking Perimeter”?

  8. But they will be so easy to mock. Fun times ahead!

  9. Not so much 'have an idea but no money' as 'have no idea but money'. C'mon, suckers! Your money will preserve us and our Trump hate in the luxury we truly deserve.

  10. The Koch brothers are never-Trump but I doubt they would invest in a sure loser run by two sore losers.

    1. I can picture Hayes, Kristol, Goldberg, et al., at their new magazine. Their preferred candidate, Jeff Flake, wins the keys to the White House and has a Republican House and Senate (and VP Larry Hogan at his side). First up, a SCOTUS seat opens up and the democrats pull their shenanigans against Flake's nominee B. Kavanaugh (Flake succumbed to the pressure from the right) and Flake immediately pulls him from consideration. The boys at NR.2 would be drowning us with excuses about why it was a smart play, good for the country, etc. and we end up with another David Souter. Every time a conservative agenda item is stopped by President Flake we'd get another laundry list why it wasn't just a good move, how the democrats would use it against the Republicans in the next election, etc.

You know that's exactly how that how magazine would read. Then when Republicans say, "Well, f**k this" and don't show up at the next mid-terms the gang that couldn't shoot straight would sit around and wring their hands and complain about how lazy the base was and how they didn't energize, etc. We've all seen the movie before.

  11. They'll find a liberal billionaire like Pierre Omidyar to kick in 5 million to start.

They'll pay themselves half a million each per year for salaries and then pay their NeverTrumper writer friends $500 per article.

That will get them through the 2020 election cycle.

  12. Would be fun a year in to find out Putin funded their startup....

  13. Thanks for a good note, but for a change I'm not so sure:

That investor does not exist. If he did, he would have bought the original SS Weekly Standard.

If I were an anti-Trump Angel, I'd want to start fresh and NOT have Bill Kristol, and most of the other losers.

There might even be room for a mostly-good facts based with reporting, with only mild anti-Trump spin.

One focusing on the waste of gov't, and the sinfulness of the Queer agenda, and the demonization of Reps; with frequent laughing call outs against Trump tweets, but not making them the focus.

    1. Sorry, Tom, but the uniparty hogs won't approve it.

Not nearly enough poison to satisfy the uniparty hogs greedy goals.

The uniparty hog nature is inherent in the human creature.

MAGA is the noble insperation to be better than the hogs.

All who provide even mild criticism of MAGA efforts to thwart the uniparty hogs are merely adding to the shit flingings.

      Not helpful.

There is no such thing as a middle of the road conservative, only pompous snob sluts.

And MAGA is far greater than mere conservative opinions.

      MAGA is action.

      MAGA is Constitutional Republic survival.

The benefits are not the purpose. They are the result of the purpose. The purpose being the survival of the only ever Constitutional Republic worthy of the title.
