Red China has engaged in an opium war against the United States. Americans buy $1.7 billion worth of Fentanyl from Red China every year.
Paragraph 6 of the CNBC report said, "Xi also plans to designate Fentanyl as a controlled substance, according to the statement. As the U.S. opioid crisis continues to rage, it would suggest that people selling the drug to parties in the U.S. would be subject to stiff penalties in China."
Opioid abuse is a plague on America. Both parties want it ended. President Trump made the opioid crisis a priority in his campaign.
Fox News reported on September 24, "A bipartisan bill aimed at curbing the nation’s crippling opioid epidemic would make U.S. aid for fentanyl-producing countries like China contingent on drug investigation cooperation. The Blocking Deadly Fentanyl Imports Act, put forth by U.S. Senators Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Doug Jones (D-Ala.), would also require the State Department to identify nations that are major producers of fentanyl in its annual report on narcotics trafficking."
Getting Chairman Xi to pay at least lip service to ending this is an accomplishment.

Fentanyl exports to the US have not been intentional?
ReplyDeleteA brief search about fentanyl was fascinating, as there are open advertisments for it from various suppliers, Chinese among them, so it appears to be fairly easy to buy online. Um, "don't try this at home," would be my advice!
ReplyDeleteIt appears that a large part of the problem is that fentanyl is used legitimately in prescriptions for pain relief, in patches, swabs, gels and as part of a tablet. So banning this drug outright means people suffering severe pain may not get the relief they need. That wouldn't be very popular with cancer sufferers or anyone having to deal with persistent high levels of pain, nor would it be compassionate.
Don's posted a $1.7B figure for how much the US buys from China, but I don't know where this number came from or how accurate it is; seems like an awful lot of fentanyl to me.
It's also completely synthetic; so there's no crop to target like the opium poppy is for opium & heroin. So although reducing or eliminating opioid abuse would be a good thing, I don't see how it's going to happen.
Like the evils from Pandora's Box, it's been let out into our world, and there's no way to hide it away again.
The first casualty in the War on Drugs was the truth. The second was justice.

ReplyDeleteWe are not talking about manufacturer to distribution drug company, but stuff like online sales, without prescription.
