The Associated Press reported "Baltimore trying to stem decades-long disappearing act" without mentioning the 2015 Baltimore race riots, which Democratic Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake cheered on by ordering police to stand down.
The AP report is an example of Fake News because the article ignored the true cause of the recent exodus.
The mayor told Fox News days after the April 2015 that, "It's a very delicate balancing act, because, while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well."
Some 380 businesses later sued the city for failing to protect their livelihood.
Peter K. Hwang, an attorney for the businesses, said, "This lawsuit is the result of the City and the other Defendants failing to do right by these property and business owners. The City and other Defendants failed them when they adopted a policy of restraint and issued stand-down orders, caring more about the public perception that they feared would result with increased police presence than preventing what were clearly preventable riots."
Against this background, the AP tried to explain why people are abandoning the city, leaving behind 16,000 empty row houses and 20,000 other buildings.
AP reported, "According to U.S. Census estimates, Baltimore led all American cities in population loss for the last two years running. Census figures indicate the city saw more people leave its boundaries than Chicago, which also reported significant losses, even though Baltimore is only a quarter of its size."
So some Baltimorons rioted and afterward many people fled.
How difficult is that to figure out?
Well, it is impossible to figure out if you ignore the riot.
David McFadden of AP wrote, "Disenfranchised areas are expected to see new investment via federal opportunity zones and a public-private Neighborhood Impact Investment Fund, created by Mayor Catherine Pugh earlier this year in part with $55 million from city-owned garages. Other grants and funds aim to boost affordable housing and foster what Pugh touts as an inclusive new era of neighborhood investment.
"Ramped-up demolition aims to increase odds of redevelopment. Entire blighted blocks are slated for demolition through Project CORE, a $75 million initiative to raze a chunk of the city’s 16,000 uninhabitable buildings — a total that’s stayed constant for years. Gov. Larry Hogan unveiled Project CORE in 2016, eight months after a young black man’s death in police custody thrust the city into chaos."
So instead of spending a few thousand on overtime for cops to defend businesses, Baltimore is going to give away millions in the hope of creating "an inclusive new era of neighborhood investment."
Now for the kicker: it won't work.
Alan Berube of the Brookings Institution told AP, "Whether Baltimore is on the right track to inclusive economic growth, I am not sure. I know the city’s leadership is focused on these issues. They’re battling a decades-long legacy of racial and economic segregation, industrial change, and transformed consumer preferences."
No, they're battling 51 years of Democrat Party control. The last Republican mayor of the city was Theodore McKeldin. He was followed by Nancy Pelosi's brother.
Sadly, expect more of this piss-poor reporting because thanks to a Drudge link, McFadden scored plenty of web hits. That's how today's editors judge journalism.
Re Drudge links: I have stopped using Drudge because of his excessive links to FakeNews stories and other click bait. I now use Whatfinger.com as my news aggregator of choice.
ReplyDeletePer Big D’s exhortations, I have as well.
DeleteI wonder if Drudge doesn't get some kind of kickback or favors for his links.
DeleteLikely
DeleteSecond Whatfinger.com, had to add yahoo's Ip's to my local Desktop Windows 10 firewall to stop being forwarded there from Drudge..
DeleteI'd been using whatfinger for a while before Don mentioned it. Since they had articles of his featured, I assumed he was well aware of it. Fox is as liberal as yahoo, Breitbart is sinking fast. Dailywire and whatfinger are where I hunt now.
DeleteWe throw millions of dollars a year into shitholes like Detroit and the money disappears without causing a ripple and the problems remain unchanged.
ReplyDeleteA big chunk of the money we throw in somehow mysteriously ends up in the pockets of:
1. Friends and family members of local government officials
2. Community leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
Speaking of corruption, when Obama was still a Senator he bragged that he was such a good poker player that he routinely won hundreds of dollars a weekly game where most or all of the other players were lobbyists.
DeleteA good journalist would have made some inquiries.
Reporter: "How did you lose so much money to Obama in that last hand?"
Lobbyist: "It wasn't easy. I had to fold with four aces."
Sadly, none of our Swamp reporters saw anything suspicious.
When you throw a pebble in a still pond you get ripples. When you throw it in a waterfall, no so much.
DeleteHmmm, another Democrat controlled sinking city following the Detroit model. Almost word for word, it didn't work in Detroit and it won't work in this slum of a city. This city has already passed the point of no return thanks to radical liberal thinking. Last one to leave, turn out the lights !
ReplyDeleteSo some Baltimorons rioted and afterward many people fled.
ReplyDeleteHow difficult is that to figure out?
Well, it is impossible to figure out if you ignore the riot.
And very easy to figure if you want anybody in the city to vote Demo.
This assumes that kind of political stupidity, rather than the growing revolution against it, will be the norm.
ReplyDeleteI used to use the Drudge Report as my primary source of news; now I use whatfinger. Most days I will click on it one time to see what he has. If all the links are to the left, then I take an exit stage left and return to whatfinger. Drudge has really gone downhill fast. It is sad.
ReplyDeleteHave not been to Drudge in over a year.
Deleteas biden would say "three words, ocasio-cortez." QED
ReplyDeleteAt a resort several years ago we met a mixed race married couple from Baltimore who were trying to leave as soon as possible. They indicated the downward spiral of Baltimore as the reason. I didn't pry, but I suspected what caused the downward spiral.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the feds could move the EPA into Ballmer. That would provide construction jobs, aid in development in the area, and provide a new population for the show-up jobs currently sucking money at the current location.
ReplyDeleteThose who lose their jobs can start working at Amazon HQ2 partition.
> Now for the kicker: it won't work.
ReplyDeleteIt works just fine if you're participating in graft.
