Principal bans candy canes as too religious

The Visalia Times Delta reported, "A Visalia teacher has been arrested after an Instagram video showed her appearing to forcibly chop off at least one student's hair while belting out the National Anthem in her classroom."

Alas, Margaret Gieszinger, 52, of Exeter, California, is a distant second place for the title of Worst Educator in America.

No, that title belongs to Jennifer Sinclair, principal at Manchester Elementary School in Elkhorn, Nebraska, who banned anything related to Christmas this year, including candy canes.

Jennifer Sinclair

The Omaha World-Herald reported, "Banned items listed included Santas, Christmas trees, Elf on the Shelf, singing Christmas carols, playing Christmas music, candy canes and reindeer, homemade ornament gifts, Christmas movies and red and green items."

Candy canes?

Her memo said, "Historically, the shape is a 'J' for Jesus. The red is for the blood of Christ, and the white is a symbol of his resurrection. This would also include different colored candy canes."

So she banned candy canes because they are Jesus. And here I thought wine and bread were. (Well, grape juice and bread since I'm a Methodist.)

The Omaha newspaper reported, "The principal did allow some items, among them sledding, hot chocolate, polar bears, penguins, snowmen, gingerbread people, yetis and Olaf — he’s the Disney snowman from 'Frozen.'"

However, the school district allows Christmas trees, Santa and the like because they are secular. And also because the district is run by sane people.

Fox News reported, "Sinclair was placed on administrative leave as of Thursday morning."

This raises a question: why would anyone want to work at an elementary school if they hate Christmas like this?

But she fared better than Gieszinger who decided to chop the hair of students as a punishment because her test was missing.

The Visalia Times Delta reported, "Science teacher Margaret Gieszinger, 52, of Exeter, was later arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment. Her bail was set at $100,000."

And if convicted, she would go to jail knowing she was not the kookiest educator this week.

  1. I used to live in Omaha, and have been to Elkhorn many times, and I was bass trombonist for the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra for eight years. I loved Nebraska, but it was too cold in the winter and too far away from my family. An old boss of mine used to say, "Omaha is a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit there."

This kinda crap doesn't play well in Nebraska once you get outside Lincoln and maybe the trendier parts of Omaha.

    5. I didn't say I want to leave my wife for her, just that she's cute. And she is.

  2. Plus I do believe she is wrong. The shape is not a J for Jesus. The shape is a shepherd's crook, Jesus being our shepherd and we his flock.
Typical liberal. Hates something she doesn't even understand. No different than their pushing for more gun control without a clue what laws already exist.

    1. This school is literally 6 blocks from my house.
I don't know what could have possibly been going thru her mind to do this, against school policy, and in a state like NE. Momentary loss of reason. Not only did she behave foolishly, she's likely very wrong about the origin of the candy cane shape and colors. The Smithsonian says it is unlikely that the candy cane (colors or shape) has any Christian significance (relative to Jesus). The shape might be the way it is so it could be easily hung on X-mas trees. Nobody really knows for sure. Regardless, she's an example of what's wrong in public education and our society. Many leftists are so rabid about removing religion from society, that they violate the 1st Amendment with their actions.

  3. It's called a candy cane.

Doesn't that make it a cane, since they call it one?

I don't have a Ph.D. in Education, but it sure looks like a cane to me. Like Tiny Tim's cane.

  4. She clearly hates Christians, so plush lion toys would probably get her tick of approval.

  8. Red and green are banned? Is she hearing dog whistles?

  9. No red and green items? OK, so that means they need to scrub those colors from the "Palestinian" flag, leaving it just a white flag of surrender. As an Israeli Jew and therefore an automatic target of Fatah, Hamas, etc. terrorists, I'm cool with that....
