Press silent about mob attacking Tucker Carlson's wife and kids

USA Today reported, "An Antifa angry mob gathered outside of Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson's home on Wednesday evening.

"The anti-fascists group, possibly associated with Smash Racism D.C., chanted 'Tucker Carlson, we will fight. We know where you sleep at night' outside of Carlson's Washington home, according to Fox News. In a video posted online, the group can also be heard saying, 'Racist scumbag, leave town!'

"Carlson's wife, Susie, was home alone at the time. He told Fox she locked herself into a pantry and called police."

The American media needs to stand as one to this bullying -- this intimidation -- this attempt to silence a critic of the Washington Establishment.

Instead, we get a lot of self-righteous yammering about Jimmy the Jerk Acosta, who refused to give up the microphone and let someone else ask a question at a White House press conference. He brushed aside the White House intern whose assignment was to hand the mic off.

He failed to play by the rules. He lost his press privileges.

Michael Goodwin sees Acosta as the worst of a rotten crew.

Goodwin wrote, "There was a time not long ago when young journalists were taught not to become the story. Apparently, many news organizations have flipped that lesson on its head.

"But we are witnessing something more insidious here than media trash talk. Plain and simple, we are watching expressions of personal hatred.

"Yes, it’s true that most journalists lean far left and their bias sticks out like so many sore thumbs. That’s been true for a long time, but political bias is an insufficient explanation for the Jim Acostas of our time.

"They hate Trump. They really, really hate him. There’s nothing professional about it."

Goodwin paints with too broad a brush.

Major Garrett and Mark Knoller, both of CBS, are good reporters. Most reporters covering the White House are good although they increasingly allow their biases slip. I blame editors who fail to rein them in.

Acosta losing his press privileges sends the right message.

The real threat to free speech was the mob attacking Carlson's home and family while Dad was not there to defend them. Carlson no longer is a reporter but if we give license to a mob to go after him, then we give license to other mobs to go after Rachel Maddow and the rest of President Trump's critics.

This silence also gives license to the same mob to go after commentators who do not hate President Trump enough.

The Bill of Rights is a pact between the two sides of the political spectrum. The agreement is one of mutual respect for rights. Once broken, we enable violence.

I urge every talk show host on cable to condemn the mob, if only for self-preservation.

Carlson responded to the mob.
