A non-apology from a reporter

Add me to the list of people ripping Marc Caputo of Politico for his bigoted tweet today. Oh, I forgive the tweet because to forgive is divine.

Caputo is a flaming hemorrhoid because he was not man enough to apologize. Instead, he blamed the targets of his insult.

First the tweet:
Meh. Weak. Dental jokes are only an inch above incest jokes.

But the American media sneers at President Trump's supporters as mental and moral inferiors who should die out soon. It is the 50th anniversary edition of don't trust anyone over 30.

Unless they are Democrats, of course.

After Caputo tweeted and deleted, people posted screenshots of the tweet. This forced him to own the tweet, as they say.

Caputo virtue signaled instead of apologizing.

While it’s usually a good idea to just delete tweets that are wrong, I own this and the criticism (both accurate and misleading) that has followed. I'll do better.

I'll do better next time.

I need to apologize for tweeting caustic remarks after seeing a reporter berated & abused. Hate begets hate. My comments referred ONLY to those jeering and swearing at the man, not a broad swath of people. But the fault is mine for causing confusion and feeding anger.

He wrote, "I need to apologize."

And then he didn't. Instead he blamed Johnson and the war, or more precisely people "jeering and swearing" at Jim Acosta.

Then Caputo said you are confused. He meant only those people who did that, not all the people at the rally.

In the age of social media, where divisiveness serves no decent purpose, these flippant comments on my part only made things worse and contributed to a cycle of rage that I should not have inflamed further. So I'm sorry.

The age of social media. He didn't do it. Twitter did!

Now he's sorry for what Twitter did: it made him divisive!

Marc Caputo is a jerk who is typical of a certain brand of journalist who erroneously believes the First Amendment covers only the press and only members of the press who agree with him. He believes that the First Amendment shields him from criticism.

By the way, CNN did not broadcast the presidential rally live.

  1. Apologize or not apologize:

  2. They never do,only select parts to serve their narrative. They had a story up on cnn business about this ,and was only there about 10 minutes before being taken down.

  3. Now I understand acosta. He just doesn't realize the press IS the enemy.

  4. He was triggered by seeing Acosta in tears. How dare someone insult our noble and unbiased media!

  5. There's another 50,000 votes this Fall.

These people really are that stupid.

  6. In their echo chamber they really do see themselves as being elite. If only there was a way they could view themselves as they're viewed by the backbone of America populace.

  7. That tweet seems really unfair. I'm sure the Maga'ts combined would have several sets of (real) teeth.

  8. He is also full of it because there is no other way to interpret the original tweet from the twerp.

  9. caputo also tweeted, “oh no! I made fun of garbage people jeering at another person as they falsely accused him of lying and flipped him off. Someone fetch a fainting couch.”

"Garbage people"???!!! Was this a rally of sanitation engineers, or was mr caputo trying to be--gasp--offensive? We can only hope that whatever unions still remain in the refuse industry take umbrage at this cheap shot that insults not only the hardworking employees, but their deplorable customers as well. He should pray that the contents of a thousand garbage trucks are not deposited on his doorstep!

  10. Meanwhile, in other news, a crazed LibCommie woman ran her into a vehicle that had a Trump sticker. And the media band played on...

  11. He is a elitist liberal, we are to stupid to nuanced comments. The excuses are just about as lame as his talent and capability. When he realized people actually listened to his comments he made him happy until he needed to get to a safe space to not hear what they were saying.

  12. When did journalists become a protected group? If we are gonna have to bow and scrape before them, shouldn't there be someone or some group with the authority to determine who is and who is not a journalist?

We have professional licensing organizations for doctors and lawyers, and state boards for everything from florists to hairstylists, security guards, and exterminators.

Is a blogger a reporter? What about someone who live-tweets from a protest? Do you need a journalism degree to be a reporter? Do you have to be employed by a recognized news agency?

OTOH, I'd like to see Acosta and his buddies explain how what happened to him was worse than what happened to that white reporter who was attacked by a mob in front of Maxine Waters' office in LA and chased down the street. I don't recall that story appearing on CNN.

  13. these people who think they are so much smarter than I am cannot read 2016 NYT exit poll data. If they did, they would learn that a lot of educated people voted for trump. This is a concrete fact. And personally, I know well several educated people who voted for trump. I mean, family members and close friends.
