The last time I believed Mueller, we wound up in the Iraq War

Fool me twice, shame on me.

"FBI Director Robert Mueller on Tuesday spoke to the Senate Select Intelligence Committee about worldwide threats to the intelligence community," CNN reported on February 11, 2003.

As part of his opening statement, Mueller said, "I tell you, Mr. Chairman, my greatest concern is that our enemies are trying to acquire dangerous new capabilities with which to harm Americans. Terrorists worldwide have ready access to information on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons via the Internet.

"Acquisition of such weapons would be a huge morale boost for those seeking our destruction while engendering widespread fear among Americans and amongst our allies.

"Although the most serious terrorist threat is from non-state actors, we remain vigilant against the potential threat posed by state sponsors of terrorism. Seven countries designated as state sponsors of terrorism -- Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Cuba and North Korea -- remain active in the United States and continue to support terrorist groups that have targeted Americans."

Ah, Iraq.

"As Director Tenet has pointed out, Secretary Powell presented evidence last week that Baghdad has failed to disarm its weapons of mass destruction, willfully attempting to evade and deceive the international community. Our particular concern is that Saddam Hussein may supply terrorists with biological, chemical or radiological material," Mueller said.

That would be CIA Director George Tenet and of course, Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Getting rid of Saddam Hussein was good, but we could have done it without a war. They wanted war.

Now Mueller is indicting Russians. The rest of the American intelligence community under Obama is urging war with Russia. Why not? Iraq got us Obama. Maybe the Russian War of 2018 will get us President Ocasio-Cortez.

You have to look at the world through their sick, fascist eyes.

  1. Cheerleader for Iraq invasion gets amnesia. Is it dishonesty or self-delusion? A little of both.

    1. Or learning the truth and re-thinking his position.

    2. The truth was there. Partisan blinders were/are there too.

    3. The truth may have been there, but Herr Mueller lied through his teeth. And who gave him authority to investigaye overseas activities? As I understand it, the FBI takes care of activities on U.S. soil. Overseas activities is the CIA's bailiwick. Or could it have just been a case of more partisan piling on? - Elric

    4. What partisan blinders? Yours? Mueller is a Democrat, and a majority of Democrats voted for both Iraq wars.

  2. BIG typo of god, not good:
Getting rid of Saddam Hussein was god,

Yes, it was good to get rid of Hussein, and only then to find out he had been lying to his own generals about not destroying his nuke stuff.

But then we could have gone home, instead of half-hearted "nation building". That was General Jay Garner's earlier 2003 idea, but he was replaced by Paul Bremer.

In a 2014 interview he advocated arming the Kurds and accepting the de facto partition of Iraq -- not so different from South Sudan leaving the Arab Muslim North.

  3. I certainly regret my support for the Iraq War. It has had disastrous consequences.

    1. Same here. And Colon Powell had turned out to be a fraud too.

  4. The only good idea Joe Biden ever has was splitting up Iraq into Sunni, Shi'ite, and Kurdish countries. - GOC

    1. A rare attack of common sense. If they could redraw borders after World War I we can do it now. - Elric
