Meathead joins the Trump Schadenfreude List

Of course Meathead hates Donald Trump.

The veteran son of Carl Reiner discussed a remake of "All in the Family" with the Washington Post on October 4, 2016, and said, "We are doing it! We’re doing it every day with Donald Trump running for president! He’s Archie Bunker. They’re both from Queens. … They both have these misogynistic, racist points of view. And they spout them."

Meathead played Meathead on the show, a college student who mooched off his father-in-law for years before landing a university professorship in California, where he dumped his wife and kids later to join a commune.

Bunker on the other hand provided for his family, even working two jobs when he had a gig as a taxi driver in dangerous locations of the pre-Trump Tower days of New York City. Over time, Bunker's view of the world changed as he grew intellectually.

Meathead stayed the same.

"The actor, director and activist just happened to be in the District last month scouting locations for his movie 'Shock and Awe,'" the story noted.

In the nearly two years since Meathead's comparison of Trump to Archie Bunker, Meathead has marched and otherwise run his mouth at the president, while working on that masterpiece, "Shock and Awe."

This weekend, his movie premiered.

How is it doing?

Kyle Smith, theater critic of National Review, tweeted, "Rob Reiner’s Iraq War movie SHOCK AND AWE earned $41,000 this weekend. Not a misprint."

Readers of this blog are not shocked. Meathead fought The Donald and the Trump won.

How low is the movie's popularity? The flick averaged a box office of $410 per theater for the 100 theaters that showed it over the weekend. Those poor theaters averaged less than $140 a day in box office from this Meathead movie.

The No. 1 movie, "Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation," pulled in $44 million in box office receipts -- more than a thousand times as much. The average for 4 theaters showing "Hotel Transylvania 3" was more than the total "Shock and Awe" drew for its 100 theaters.

"Shock and Awe" is a legitimate movie by Castle Rock, not some artsy-fartsy fluff of niche cinema.. The drama is 90 minutes long. It stars Woody Harrelson, James Marsden, Rob Reiner, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, Tommy Lee Jones, and Richard Schiff.

And it was watched by maybe 4,000 people this weekend.

Ah, the schadenfreude is strong with this one. Let us add him to the list.
