Meathead joins the Trump Schadenfreude List

Of course Meathead hates Donald Trump.

The veteran son of Carl Reiner discussed a remake of "All in the Family" with the Washington Post on October 4, 2016, and said, "We are doing it! We’re doing it every day with Donald Trump running for president! He’s Archie Bunker. They’re both from Queens. … They both have these misogynistic, racist points of view. And they spout them."

Meathead played Meathead on the show, a college student who mooched off his father-in-law for years before landing a university professorship in California, where he dumped his wife and kids later to join a commune.

Bunker on the other hand provided for his family, even working two jobs when he had a gig as a taxi driver in dangerous locations of the pre-Trump Tower days of New York City. Over time, Bunker's view of the world changed as he grew intellectually.

Meathead stayed the same.

"The actor, director and activist just happened to be in the District last month scouting locations for his movie 'Shock and Awe,'" the story noted.

In the nearly two years since Meathead's comparison of Trump to Archie Bunker, Meathead has marched and otherwise run his mouth at the president, while working on that masterpiece, "Shock and Awe."

This weekend, his movie premiered.

How is it doing?

Kyle Smith, theater critic of National Review, tweeted, "Rob Reiner’s Iraq War movie SHOCK AND AWE earned $41,000 this weekend. Not a misprint."

Readers of this blog are not shocked. Meathead fought The Donald and the Trump won.

How low is the movie's popularity? The flick averaged a box office of $410 per theater for the 100 theaters that showed it over the weekend. Those poor theaters averaged less than $140 a day in box office from this Meathead movie.

The No. 1 movie, "Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation," pulled in $44 million in box office receipts -- more than a thousand times as much. The average for 4 theaters showing "Hotel Transylvania 3" was more than the total "Shock and Awe" drew for its 100 theaters.

"Shock and Awe" is a legitimate movie by Castle Rock, not some artsy-fartsy fluff of niche cinema.. The drama is 90 minutes long. It stars Woody Harrelson, James Marsden, Rob Reiner, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, Tommy Lee Jones, and Richard Schiff.

And it was watched by maybe 4,000 people this weekend.

  1. Personally, I'm not Shocked and Awed by the fact that Meathead made the list...only by how long it took for him to get on it!

  3. Ha ha! For some reason I always liked The Fifth Element. I reckon because it's so camp.

If Meathead's political view is so superior, why didn't Hillary win? And why doesn't he run? It seems he knows the Archies outnumber the Meatheads, and he's a sore Loser. - Elric

  4. Hey Meathead you are yesterdays news and no one is buying your stuff. Moreover, Archie Bunker was All in the Family you played a 3rd level supporting actor that wasnt funny or very good.

    ReplyDelete
  5. As we all know, Archie went on to become a police chief in a small southern town where he proved he wasn't a racist. Meathead adopted vegetarianism and got fat.

  6. I loved "The Fifth Element". Luc Besson directed it starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich. 20 years later (or so), Besson did "Valerian" starring Dane Dehaan and Cara Delevigne. I wanted to like "Valerian", but neither star (nor the supporting cast) had the charm of "The Fifth Element". Of course, Rob Reiner is an idiot.

  7. Meathead is still a meathead.

  8. Lunkhead Reiner enters with style. That movie, besides bombing at the box office, looks to be a massive money loser unless those high priced big named actors, actresses and xitors worked for cut rate and a piece of the action.

  9. If the old Woody is a movie, I plan to miss it. I haven't seen any movie he has been in since he climbed the Golden Gate bridge and caused a father to miss the birth of his baby in the police action to get Harrelson down.

  10. All in the family was a setup to mock normal American citizens. The Archie Bunker character was played by a big leftie.

    1. Yeah, I found that out years after the series had ended, and was shocked.

Apparently the writers & producers, and most of the actors as well, thought they were making a parody of right-wingers that everyone would find as ludicrous as they did. Of course the show was a huge hit, but for exactly the opposite reason: everyone thought Meathead was well-named, and that Archie was dead right in virtually everything!

In The Politically Incorrect Guide to the 1960s, Johnathan Leaf says this:

"The show most people associate with the clash between the sixties counterculture and the older generation, All in the Family, did not premier until 1971. It is hailed by liberals today as a ground-breaking sitcom that "pushed the envelope" of acceptable fare for TV. In all the praise, however, it's forgotten that what made the show so beloved was the popularity of its main character, Archie Bunker. Although the character was supposed to be an unenlightened, illogical bigot, he became a hero to millions of Americans for his stubborn rejection of the counterculture. It is Archie Bunker's chair that has become one of the most famous exhibits in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Meanwhile, Bunker's counterculture antagonist is now mostly remembered for the derisive nickname Archie gave him: Meathead."

  11. Liberals on the whole ignore veterans’ efforts, so it seems only fair that veterans (and everybody else) should ignore liberals’ efforts.

  13. Don, it's an insult to real Veterans to use that word in referring to Meathead. Yeah, I know you didn't mean he was an actual Veteran, but it still rankles.

  14. “Veteran”, as in “military veteran”?

I hadn't realized that we were ever, so desperate — at any time(!) — for personnel that we inducted the accurately described “meathead” (ie, ‘...dead from the neck up...’) into any branch of our military!

Actually, let me qualify the aforesaid: I could visualize him as a “warm-body” volunteer for testing the viability of nerve agent stocks, (versus past-due date deterioration) prior to our destroying our stockpile.

After all, w|no operating CNS he'd be ideal: just get the paddles and reboot after each test.
