The New York Times seemed puzzled by the Republican reaction to the Resistance. Instead of serving as a wedge between President Trump and the party, the Resistance serves as an adhesive.
Liberals also may be surprised to learn the Resistance is a turn off for their supporters as well.
In its story on the Resistance bonding Republicans with President Trump, the Times used a stereotype to show its befuddlement.
"Gina Anders knows the feeling well by now. President Trump says or does something that triggers a spasm of outrage. She doesn’t necessarily agree with how he handled the situation. She gets why people are upset," the Times reported.
"But Ms. Anders, 46, a Republican from suburban Loudoun County, Va., with a law degree, a business career, and not a stitch of Make America Great Again gear in her wardrobe, is moved to defend him anyway."
The Times approach to Trump supporters was laughably offensive. It reported, "In interviews across the country over the last few days, dozens of Trump voters, as well as pollsters and strategists, described something like a bonding experience with the president that happens each time Republicans have to answer a now-familiar question: 'How can you possibly still support this man?'"
Buried in Paragraph 26 was the answer, from John Westling, 70, of Princeton, Minnesota, who said, "Let’s see. Economy booming, check. Unemployment down, check. Border security being addressed, check. Possible end to the Korean War that started when I was 3 years old, 68 years ago, check."
Actions are more important than Words.
The press is made up of wordsmiths. This is why most of them do not get it.
And Democrats are word people. This is why most of them don't get it.
So let me explain why the Resistance is futile.
1. The Resistance comes from the top down. The Tea Party was more organic, less organized, and seemed more sincere.
2. The celebrities are not helping the Resistance in part because of all the baggage they carry. Maybe it is just me, but I laugh when an actress who shed her clothes in a film complains that the President Trump used the P-word. Indeed, the all-too casual use of vulgarity undermines the message.
3. The attacks are personal. Yes, the Tea Party did attack Obama (every president endures that to some extent) but the protesters eight years ago also has an issue: the fear of nationalized health care. What is the issue besides the way President Trump looks?
4. The focus is not on any issue. The Resistance simply is against everything President Trump does. He figured out more than a year ago how to work this to his advantage. The Resistance now opposes tax cuts, a booming economy, and peace in Korea. The Resistance also now supports MS-13, open borders, and Kim Jong Un.
5. President Trump has proved them wrong. He is not Hitler. In no way, shape, or form is he. The pile of profane pejoratives is staggering. Calling him a cock holster and his daughter the C-word on national television makes him the victim, and totally blows away any argument that he is a despot because if he were both Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee would be pushing up daisies.
6. The Tea Party was American. The Resistance was French.
Alas, as part of the Resistance, the New York Times cannot look at their position objectively. The Times staff is setting itself up for an unpleasant November Surprise -- again.

Good point about La Resistance being French. They've been trying to turn us into Europe for a long time. Particularly inappropriate now as Europe is in the process of being turned into rape central because of their immigration policies.

It does this without effort because it is settled truth to the people who make it function and, they expect, for those who read it. It is annoying to people with actual cognitive function but it is designed to be so. It is a flag of complete contempt for life outside its island, proudly displayed. The motto on it is "We don't need you, cracker".

One of many things Trump has done is to expose this hither to hidden contempt of servants for their supposed masters. The NYT said it was supplying it's loyal readers with important information, but it was just juiced up propaganda of it's own and kindred corporate slave masters. The FBI was 'protecting citizens from the most dangerous crimes', but was really serving its selfish bureaucracy, etc.
The resistance in France was poignant and brave, made up mostly of poorly armed civilians who knew that if caught they would be hanged or shot on the spot. Today on the edge of the Place Condorde in Paris is a stone supporting wall with small hollowed out spaces. Fresh flowers are placed in them every week to commemorate 5 young men and women who were shot together there as the Germans fled the city. A senseless act of revenge, as were so many.
The resistance to Trump is not noble. It is a painless and risk free exercise in vanity created by an oligarchy of very rich and ideological men with trillions of dollars and politcal empire at stake. Its lazy 'fighters' seek to enrich themselves with social media exposure then escape punishment with a feigned apology. No rope for them.
The French resistance is now romantic memory although in the massive reality of the war it accomplished little. Resistance to Trump will not be remembered as noble nor will there be flowered monuments to its participants, especially if it generates what its cowardly leaders really want, His violent removal, an act also to merely take Senseless revenge, on him and the crackers who put him in office.
The Times question, 'How can you still support him?' is so blatant that one might ask, 'How can you still read the Times?'

The closing sentence says it all. There is now a call by Democrat politicians to "get in the face of anyone associated with Trump. Hollywood is calling for rape and torture of trump officials and their children, DHS head has her house surrounded by a feral mob, Press secretary and her family thrown out of restaurant, even the interns and aids can't use dating apps because when they are exposed as Trump workers the are told to F themselves. It's only a matter of time before one of these paid idiots kills somebody. Then what.

DeleteI'm fascinated by the entire thing and I'm so curious how it will be resolved. Rush LImbaugh said that Trump expected the loonies to calm down after a few months and was surprised when they didn't. I did too. I expected self-preservation to kick in, which usually means slowly edging over to the winning side and then pretending you were there all along. It surprises me that absolutely nobody has done that. How will they ever get out of the corner they've painted themselves into?

And compare and contrast the media's response to Roseanne Barr's tweet (she was kept on the front pages until fired, humiliated and sent to the dustbin) with how the hundred times worse, vile, violence inspiring, sexist, horrific tweets of Peter Fonda were handled. Fonda apologized, once, (Roseanne dozens of times), forgiven and the story disappeared from the news. However, nothing exposed the true face of Leftism like Fonda's tweets. And conservatives have long memories. Much longer than the "race to this instant's issue" Leftists.

I gave her tremendous opportunities to grow and she did great with them.But she ended up leaving early. Seems I used triggering words.

We are 1 to 2 or slightly more Republican Presidents away from him fighting, physical and with politics, to the death with the Democrats.
It's as if they do not see this. The Tea Party was a direct result of W and Obama. Trump was a direct result of both parties craving global power over everyday Americans.
The next iteration will be more vitrolic, more demanding, and in some ways despotic.
We are at or very near an event horizon. What happens next is truly the Democrats play.
People of darkness won't bother to turn out without Obama at the top of the ticket.

It is my impression that the truly over the top vitriol is actually concentrated in a few very loud and obnoxious voices, and I do generally get the impression talking casually with folks off line that only a few seem to be buying it hook, line, and hourly anuerysim, but it is having the effect of simply being out there - and for those that hear things in passing and just file them away uncritically. . .
ReplyDeleteFor those following along, the blatant falsehood propagandizing is readily apparent, and provable. For those that just heard a thing, internalized it, and have been primed to distrust anything contrary, it is likely working. Even with those tending toward conservatism.
Look for large swings in the black communities, particularly as the evidence they have been ill used becomes undeniable. Many of the blacks I've randomly talked about this with are definitely "off the plantation" at this point. And that number is likely to grow - as more are convinced that the previous 8 years were glorified shucking and jiving, and that they were useful marks for that.
The true test is as Don alluded to - between those that prefer rhetoric and appearances versus those interested in concrete results.
Hopefully, to most, results matter.
Good point about the black community. I've been saying it for a long while. Trump gives them respect and support that Obama never did, and they feel it. Expect their vote to increase from 12% to 20-30% - which is a huge swing. And it will be particularly among black males.

I tip my hat to this man, whose political instincts are better than any occupant of the Oval Office since Bill Clinton.
I'm behind enemy lines here in San Diego. I can tell you that even though the state and county is blue, there is tremendous enthusiasm for Trump. I see more Trump bumper stickers than Hillary and Bernie combined and that's saying something because typically the Left resorts to violence vandalizing property. California is lost but I don't see the supposed "blue wave" they are hoping for.
