The Lilliputians of the G7 -- May and Merkel -- tried to tie the American Gulliver down with their communique on climate change, gender equality, and other marvels of Western socialism.
President Trump blew them off. They failed to convince him the sky was falling, but the press portrayed him as unstatesmanlike.
(What about Trudeau? He put the dip in diplomacy. Tough to say which was the biggest failure at the summit, him or his Fake Eyebrows.)
Meanwhile, two of those great diplomats -- May and Merkel -- have been unable to reach an agreement on Great Britain's departure from the European Union after two years of talk.
The G7 Summit was like getting marriage counseling from a couple in the middle of a botched divorce.
Alastair Jamieson of NBC News reported, "Brexit is even messier than critics expected. So what happens now? With only months to go until Britain leaves the European Union, Prime Minister Theresa May faces a showdown with critics in parliament on Tuesday."
Britons joined the confederacy of European states with the understanding that it could leave.
No one thought anyone would leave. No one knows how to do this.
"It has been almost two years since Britain voted unexpectedly, and by a narrow margin, to quit the 28-nation bloc. Yet with 292 days to go as of Sunday until its membership ends, nothing has been agreed on in terms of what future relations between the U.K. and Europe will look like," Jamieson reported.
The report was light on EU's unwillingness to seek a cordial cutting of the cord.
And of course, Merkel must deal with an invasion of Muslim refugees that has led to murder and mayhem in a country that enjoyed a low crime rate for most of my lifetime.
This explains why they were so willing to make outrageous demands of America. President Trump provided a nice distraction from their failures as prime minister and as chancellor, respectively.

By picking such a vicious and personal fight with Justin Trudeau, POTUS-Trump has assured that Trudeau will stay in power as Prime Minister for the next several years. Why would POTUS-Trump do that? Let's think this through.
ReplyDeleteCanada is so irrelevant on the world stage, that it could have a semi-trained Canada Goose as its Prime Minister and it would not matter. (In fairness to Canuckistan, they do have quite a good-looking semi-trained Canada Goose as their Prime Minister, but a semi-trained Canada Goose nonetheless.)
POTUS-Trump is about to renegotiate NAFTA with Canada. The Canadians have been cheating -- not to the extreme Mexico has -- but they've been cheating and better deal with them could be had. And if you are POTUS-Trump, who would you rather be negotiating against? Intelligent, tough, razor-sharp professionals? Or a team of semi-trained, semi-literate but good-looking Canada geese?
Justin Trudeau is smart enough to know Trump handed him a gift with these personal attacks. But he's too stupid to know why that would be in Trump's (and America's) best interest. So, that Magic Wand of better deal-making that Obama scoffed at? It has just been waved again.

Yawn...drivel befitting the sleep your way to the top NYT.
DeleteThis is absolutely correct. May has the same problem the commies and the never Trumpers have here: a large blue population center (London) voted against Brexit but most of the country at large voted for it. Large financial interests are against it but the medium to small businesses are for it as well as what is left of what we would call patriotic independent minded people. Merkle need Britain because it has been almost as successful as Germany so it contributes billions to prop up loser countries like Greece and Italy, subsidies which are unpopular in Germany but help keep the Germans in the lead Panzer.
ReplyDeleteEurope has sunk deeply into socialism since WWII because the Left won the war and siezed intellectual control of the universities and the bureaucracies. The left here drools over the power they have there and see DT as the only obstruction to a similar siezure of control after Obama failed to find the Finland Station.
Brexit is the UKs last chance to express itself freely, forever. May never wanted it so she don' care. But we have DT and he does, about us anyway.
If Brexit succeeds, the Brits should make another fundamental change. Start driving on the right side of the road. Seems fitting somehow.
ReplyDeleteMay has been a disaster. Merkel is a walk-in disaster. These M&Ms melt in ones hands.
ReplyDeleteBeg to differ. May and Merkel are in perfect agreement: neither want Britain to leave the EU and both are sabotaging Brexit.
ReplyDeleteMerkel is not official head of EU, nor its spokesperson nor its negotiator re Britain. Officially, there is nothing May could have done in Quebec. However if she actually wanted Brexit this was a good occasion for her; Germany and France were there - i.e., the two powers of the EU, and the anglophile POTUS. Ttump could give her leverage, specifically on the multibillion fine the EU intends to levy on Britain for leaving the EU. But if May cared about negotiations with the EU or leverage in them, she would have reached out to Trump long ago. Instead, she has distanced herself and publicly trashed him. Clear signs she is not interested in achieving Brexit.
This was not a failure by May but part of her and the Tories' ongoing intentional sabotage of Brexit. They chose May as PM precisely because she had been a pro-immigration Remainer.
I LOLd when that Canadian bimbo checker-flagged the Grand Prix a lap early yesterday. Fitting, eh?
ReplyDeleteWas she counting laps in metric?
DeleteDoes toy boy actually wear fake eyebrows? How embarrassing. But after seeing his performance in India I guess nothing could embarrass him. And this little drama teacher takes on Trump? He must be nuts as well.
ReplyDeleteHe IS nuts, John. He’s a disruptor. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
DeleteAll this rancor and cat fighting at the G7, starting with May and Merkel. See, this is what happens when you put women in charge. And don't get me started on that beta nancy male from the Far North. ROFL.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the dupes run with the fake eyebrow story while the dear orange leader spray tans to match the hue of a cheeto topped with a bad combover. Try a little more propecia.
ReplyDeleteLaugh at his looks, but he's the one who's winning.

Anon II - take on a handle other than Anonymous.
DeleteTo Our Trollish Anon I . . .
DeleteI see you are working a bit to polish up your ad hominem attacks, but this one still looked a bit amateurish.
Try harder. Strive to be as nasty as you can be! Heh!
Anon has something in common with De Niro.
DeleteThey’re both powerless, and petulant because of it.
“Down with Trump” suggests they think they can pull that off.
“F*** Trump” shows they now know they can’t.
Your tears are sweet to us.

Last time something like this happened, the euros sniffed and called it an affair between armed mobs.
But, because they refused to learn the lesson of what quick-firing, rifled weapons could do, they paid the price at the Marne and Flanders fields.
That's TWICE in recent days Donald whupped the EU up side o' da haid!. This past weekend, and also, killing the Iran deal. And unlike some, I think Donald has Iran as surrounded as how he worked his stuff on the Norks. Think on Donald's work with SA and Israel (Jerusalem). That gave him the effective lead with Iran, which is why his comments about Russia joining the G-string group, and talking of a meeting with Putin, looks precisely like his approach with Xi on NK.
ReplyDeleteIt is all quite interesting - watching matters unfold.

DeleteI would add to the mix - Poland, Austria, and now Italy's new PM. Poor Angie, and the Brussels crowd - things are not happening as they envisioned.
DeleteWhich is, of course, wonderful - as was the atomic wedgie Donald gave Little Justin!
