Concord in Contra Costa County, California, is a sanctuary city.
"There are 2.3-2.6 million Californians who are undocumented. The concept of a sanctuary city goes back thousands of years when cities in the Old Testament agreed to be a place for those seeking safety," the county says.
President Trump said good.
We'll re-open a shuttered Navy base in the city and house 47,000 illegal aliens there.
Over the dead body of County Supervisor John Gioia.
"This is crazy. We're going to fight it. We're not going to let this happen," Gioia said.
Plenty of politicians in the Bay Area are up in arms over importing illegal aliens into their sanctuary city.
"This is not a solution, but evil policy. It reminds me of WWII, Japanese put in internment camps. We don't want that, Democratic Congressman Mark DeSaulnier told KGO.
Concord Mayor Edi Birsan told the Mercury News, "This is so bizarre and a topic that is always in such flux. At first I thought it was Fake News."
The kneejerk opposition to illegal aliens is hilariously hypocritical. City spokeswoman Jennifer Ortega told the newspaper, "Last September, the City of Concord passed a resolution affirming (its) commitment to being a welcoming, inclusive, tolerant and supportive community for all. We do not feel that a detention center within city limits represents those values."
So as long as they are cheap labor, the people of Concord are OK with illegal aliens roaming their streets committing more crimes.
But housing them while their cases are heard? Never cry the self-righteous Marxists.

DeleteIt still befuddles me why in the world we let illegal aliens in and then house them and feed them. Send them packing back across the border. If someone wants to claim asylum tell them it's necessary to file a request from an embassy or consulate outside the U.S. There are a number of them in Mexico. If they are approved we will let them in. Just because someone wants to claim asylum doesn't mean they have any right to admittance into the U.S. in the meantime, and especially not to taxpayer funds. Some "non-profits" have made hundreds of millions of dollars by providing shelter and services to illegal aliens. Guess where that money comes from? - Elric
ReplyDeleteA commenter somewhere said that a million illegals allowed into the country turns into 600,000 Democrat voters. That is why all these Democrat-run cities are sanctuaries, and it is also why most of the crooks in DC think it's great. More Democrats means more power and money for the deep state.
DeleteI live in Calif. two towns over from Concord. The town I live in is quite nice and quite liberal and like Concord could be said to deserve a detention camp, but me and the other few hundred conservatives living here don't! If we go to Home Depot ot drive by vacant lots we already see crowds of men loitering there hoping to get day work, and our taxes are paying to educate the children and give them all medical care. Take pity on the conservatives in the area! We don't back the sanctuary city policies.

DeleteLike most conservatives still in Calif. there are reasons why I can't. I live in a very nice town and my daily life, if I ignore annoying liberals - which unfortunately includes most of my friends - is quite pleasant. As the legislature gets ever more insane and the effects of the new federal tax code kick in, I make no prediction about the future here.

DeleteA few years ago there was a large Federal Compound formerly called Camp Edwards/Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod. It had been deactivated in the 70's but still had a lot of land. Sounds like a winner.
DeleteWhen I was in grade school, we learned that "sanctuary" was a temporary protection lasting from around a week to a month. It was granted if a fugitive made it to the sanctuary of a church. The fugitive then had the 7-30 days to convince the priest of his innocence. But after a month or so, it was over.

ReplyDeleteNewport and Laguna Beach, Malibu, Palo Alto would be wonderful places for them, as well. Those folks are the holiest of the holier-than-thou bunch and surely would not object.
