President Donald Trump's Singapore thing with Kim Jong Un is a nice piece of a larger puzzle. Certainly the Korean peninsula is in a strategic location bordering China and within missile range of Russia and Japan. But as historic as ending the Korean War would be, President Trump has a larger game plan.
On Saturday, he brushed aside the G7 as irrelevant, and it is with its nonsense about climate change and gender equality. Japan's Prime Minister Shinzō Abe is a stand-up guy, and maybe the new guy in Italy is too. But the others are two teenage boys and their shrewish mothers. You used the wrong pronoun, Mister President.
President Trump physically and symbolically left the G7 behind to talk to Kim. President Trump's actions raised eyebrows -- and they fell off.
The G7 no longer matters. Remember Donald Rumsfeld's line about Old Europe? President Trump views the world that way, embracing the liberated Eastern bloc nations and not really caring what Brussels thinks.
Meanwhile, another meeting took place on Saturday. Chairman Xi held the 18th annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization — Russia, China, India, and a few of the istans. Iran also sat in on the meeting. Reporting from Qingdao, the Times of Israel said, "Authorities emptied an entire oceanside swathe of the city — clearing out shopkeepers, residents and day-trippers to make way for Xi, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani."
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the summit.
Xi is using President Trump's rescission of Obama's unconstitutional Nukes for Iran deal to build a new Axis of Evil: China, Russia, and Iran.
"SCO members may use granting full membership to Iran as a way to demonstrate support for (Tehran) and the nuclear agreement," Dawn Murphy, professor of international security studies at the US Air War College told the Israeli newspaper.
New lines are being formally drawn. Trump has been at it for one year and has sized up world leaders. Britain, France, and Germany are pathetic. The Poles, Hungarians, and other former Soviet states are largely useful. The Gulf States and Israel are reliable allies.
China is the enemy as it paid off American politicians to get trade deals that have funded its military growth. That's the real problem in the world. The Canadian tariffs on cheese and butter are not killing the economy, but President Trump went after them to make a point to China.
Peeling North Korea from the Chinese sphere of influence reverses nearly 1,500 years of history, where Korea was an independent protectorate of China. It ended in 1905 with a Japanese invasion but resumed after World War II.
Meanwhile, Al Arabiya English reported, "A strike by Iranian truck drivers which entered its third consecutive week has expanded to the capital Tehran amid the country’s ongoing oil crisis and a halt in shipping services.
"Video and pictured circulating on social media show the strike affecting the main highway in central Tehran, where truck drivers raised banners with slogans calling for solidarity.
"Iranian activists on social media said that drivers parked their trucks on the main road in a long convoy to join the strike."
President Trump has left Iran to Saudi Arabia and Israel to take care of. It's their table, not his.
North Korea is just one piece in the peace puzzle that President Trump is assembling. He is an advocate of peace through strength. This is why he discarded the weak sister four in the G7, and why he wants to cut a deal with Rocket Man. The Dotard knows what he is doing.

ReplyDeleteThe weak link in any Xi/Putin/Rouhani axis is Putin. Putin does not want to play second fiddle to anyone and in an alliance with China, Russia would be second fiddle -- or lower -- in the pecking order with Xi the #1.

Trump the Disruptor's political strategy is to confound his enemies, make them chase their tails until they collapse from exhaustion. He does this to his domestic enemies, the Democrats, and now he's doing it to the countries that pose the greatest threat to the US and to world peace. It's not unlike what Reagan did to the Soviet Union by bankrupting them into total collapse. The rest of the world is so confused about how to deal with Trump they are close to having a nervous breakdown. When that finally happens, The Donald will strike his weakened and exhausted opponents and Victory will be ours!

His intent is to make America GREAT again, with apologies to nobody.....but is going to bring much of the rest of the world along with that. Economic prosperity is the key to peace! Happy people don't usually want to make wars!

There were three superstates at war in Orwell’s classic 1984: Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. Never once in that book was the United States mentioned. Tell you something?
ReplyDeleteYes, but by that token neither were the USSR or China. Oceania was the alliance of the USA and Great Britain. Eurasia, of course, was the USSR. Eastasia was either China or Japan.
DeleteOrwell's point was that totalitarianism could happen anywhere, even here. It was set in the not-too-distant future, as a cautionary tale. It was not meant to depict the present state of affairs in 1948, when he wrote it, at least with regards to "Oceania" and "Eastasia." Keep in mind that in 1948, when he wrote "1984" and gave the book its title by inverting the last two dates in the year, China had not entered the communist world, as Mao Tse-Tung's takeover from Chiang Kai-Shek had not been completed and China's future as a communist/totalitarian state (with the horrors of the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution) was an unknown future event.

Oh bullshit, TK. If we were in that war we would have stopped it straightaway. Orwell’s major point was about the decaying decrepitude of Europe and Asia, not the US. Which is exactly what’s playing out right now.

Other than a desire to kowtow to the $$$ of the military contracting complex, it's hard to discern the rationale behind all the "Russia Russia Russia!" nonsense of the past few years. Do the Dems and Graham Republicans really, actually WANT a war with Russia??? They're insane.

The "old Europe" thing isn't really new. Long while back this fellow https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Gottfried_Herder visited Eastern Europe and precicted that those nations would end up stronger than the decadent western ones because of their stronger faith traditions. And if you take a look, those nations would have ended up more advanced as well were it not for wars, imperialism, occupations, partitions,and balkanizations. And this was not just Russia. The western nations did not mind at all seeing potential competitors thrown into disarray or to wolves. Especially Germany, whether fascist or progressive. Germany used to dominate Eastern Europe with the Teutonic Hanse system in the middle ages. I think they still want to.
ReplyDeleteConsider the notion of rapprochment with Russia in concert with the old Eastern bloc. Russia tried to do something similar to the old European Economic Community with something they called Comecon back in the cold war. It didn't work because of the nascient resurgence of nationalism stirring in the bloc countries. With us in the mix it could work now. Having these kinds of economic ties would assure the security of these countries and act as a catalyst for a blossoming in the East such as old Europe has never seen.
Talk about a balance against China.
The eastern bloc countries also have a firsthand experience of everything that statism is and is not. They value freedom in a way that perhaps the west has forgotten being so many decades and generations away from the hard realities of world war.
