Roseanne gets the last laugh on Disney

Disney's decision to instantly cancel the "Roseanne" show over a tweet is the dumbest business decision made by the multinational conglomerate since hiring Keith Olbermann back for its ESPN subsidiary this weekend.

The executives at Disney's ABC division threw out their top-rated TV show.

How will the owners of the 200 ABC affiliates react to the loss of revenues?

"In a TV season that re-defined new and canceled, Roseanne was the most successful 'new' series launch, ranking No. 3 in total viewers (17.815M) and in the demo (5.0). Its mid-March launch made headlines, outstripping every scripted series of the season except the post-Super Bowl episode of 'This Is Us,'" Deadline Hollywood reported last week -- before the cancellation.

In the demo (people 18 to 49 years old) the top shows were for the season were:
1 NFL Sunday Night Football NBC 6.2
2 This Is Us NBC 5.4
3 Roseanne ABC 5.0
4 NFL Thursday Night Football (CBS+NFLN) CBS 4.5
5 The Big Bang Theory CBS 4.4
6 NFL Sunday Night Football Pre-Kickoff NBC 4.3
7 NFL Thursday Night Football (NBC+NFLN) NBC 4.0
8 The OT Fox 3.8
9 The Good Doctor ABC 3.4
10 Young Sheldon CBS 3.3
This is Starbucks opening its restaurant and its bathrooms to hobos and other non-paying customers. This is the Denver Post firing a fellow over a "racist" tweet last May only to whine when it was sold off and its newsroom staff cut to the quick. This is Macy's dropping the Trump line of clothes, and then finding it had to close hundreds of stores months later.

Virtue signaling is a way for a network president to become popular among her liberal friends while risking the jobs of hundreds of rank-and-file employees.

Network television is on the wane. Disney accelerated the demise of ABC. Many working class people at the network and its 200 affiliate stations will suffer.

My advice to Roseanne Barr, enjoy retirement. Buy popcorn. Watch your former employer dissolve before your very eyes.

I did.

  1. She could try to follow the Jordan Peterson route of routines on YouTube -- or other media. Unlikely to be as easy top popular, but possibly with stronger fundamentals.

  2. Crowdfunding and Netflix. Problem solved. Network TV is so 20th century.

  3. Maybe Hulu or another streaming subscription channel will pick up the show. I'm willing to be Netflix has lost more than a million subscribers with its announcement that the Obamas in addition to Rice will be creating Netflix propaganda.

    Great opportunity for a competitor.

    1. Oh, but the Mike and Barry Show won't be political, says Variety! No, it won't be a far-Left, America-hating show at all!

Don't miss the comments to that fictional article, they're a hoot!

  4. This must be a real head-scratcher for a group that sees racist tweets as a feature not a bug. What's a little racial dehumanization? One good thing about Trump is that the racists feel he gives them cover. The more the racists can tip their hands, the better we all are.

    1. Roseanne has been a liberal Democrat her entire life...so I agree with you. Trump's been forcing all the left-wing racists to come crawling out of the woodwork and tip their hands so we know who they are.

    3. The only racist I see here is you, decreeing that some cultures are less able to handle being called a monkey than others, as calling politicians monkeys is as old as time.

    4. Your side never apologizes for its racism. Our side shouldn't have to, either. Time for an even playing field.

  5. I expect half of the ESPN crew and all of ABC’s late night alleged comedians to be terminated.

  6. Starbucks could have saved themselves a lot of money, had they simply emphasized from the Book of Matthew, judge not lest you be judge. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Close the stores for 5 minutes to instruct, and that enough.

  7. Oh please. Wait a year. Then watch as Fox or some other channel picks up the Roseanne show.

Its a cash cow, and they are in a dying business.

She's already apologized, and its not like she did anything that was anywhere near as bad as what Liberals do on ABC, and other stations, on a daily basis.

  9. It was a dumb tweet which raised problems for Disney. Why was Barr calling Jarrett an ape? That goes beyond mere pc incorrectness. i don't know that Disney could have ignored the tweet or done anything else

    1. If I were to skewer Jarrett, I would simply remind the good people that Jarrett is on record of calling the biggest mass murder in history, Mao Tse-Tung her hero.

    2. All the actors in Planet of the Apes were white, pretty much. Roddy McDowell? Kim Hunter? Helena Bonham Carter? VJ is a weird looking person to say the least. Ugly is another word. And that's nothing compared to what's on the inside. Meanwhile, she's SO close to the Os that she has moved into their house and lives with them. Creepy, that.

    3. Jarrett is an Iranian spy along qith being a muslim and a Obama boss.

  10. Five of the top 10 rated shows on list are NFL products. Maybe Roseanne ought to take a knee during the national anthem to make amends. Or better yet, maybe she can sign the national anthem and grab her crotch - no doubt you neo-cons will love that.

  11. I am sorry but ABC didn't have much to offer for the past decade and the very few bright spot were at the 60 watt level.
ABC going down the sewer will barely be noticed.

  12. I'm still head scratching. What was the racist comment? Howard Cossell called his grandkid's monkeys. I was called a monkey every time I climbed a tree.

After all, Darwin said we all have common apelike ancestors. So science.
