Media lies are the real scandal

John C. Harwood at CNBC wrote a piece, "Most voters have become numb to each new Trump scandal because they don’t believe what he says anyway."

Wrong. Most voters are numb because we no longer believe the media.

Since Trump's election on November 8, 2016, the media has reported lie after lie after lie about him and his supporters.

“A Muslim student from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette reported being attacked by two men on Wednesday morning. The victim told investigators that one wore a white Trump hat while they hit her with a metal object and shouted obscenities as she fell to the ground. University police say the suspects fled with the woman’s wallet and hijab,” NBC News reported on November 10, 2016.

That was a lie.

“Tulsi Gabbard is the pick for secretary of state, not Mitt Romney,” The Hill reported on November 29.

That was a lie.

“OneWest, a bank Mnuchin and his partners established during the collapse, has taken steady fire from regulators and consumer advocates for myriad failures ever since. In Florida, the company foreclosed on a 90-year-old woman after a 27-cent payment error,” Lorraine Woellert of Politico reported on December 1.

That was a lie.

“Intel chiefs presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him,” CNN reported on January 10, 2017.

That was a lie.

The Russian dossier was not intelligence. It was opposition research. It also was not true. Its main salacious assertion was that he hired prostitutes to piss in a bed the Obamas slept in. Who does that? What sort of sick, perverted mind come up with that?

I mean, besides John Podesta.

And we have chased that trolley for a year through Looneyville. After a while, your mind numbs.

No, Melania did not slap Trump's hand away.

No, the Polish first lady did not snub Trump.

No, he did not use a speech to the South Korean parliament to promote his golf course.

And on and on and on it goes.

The press makes things up, distorts things, and parrots the Democratic Party line of lies.

Liz Spayd, public editor of the New York Times, warned her colleagues about lying.

“Mike Morell, former acting director of the C.I.A. and a backer of Hillary Clinton, earlier this week likened the U.S. media’s reaction to Donald Trump to the Venezuelan media’s reaction when Hugo Chávez became president nearly 20 years ago. With little political opposition to Chávez, the media assumed that role, Morrell said, and ultimately lost its credibility with the Venezuelan people,” Spayd wrote. on June 2, 2017.

Instead of listening, the Times laid her off.

We're numb. He really could shoot up Fifth Avenue, and no one would believe the reports on CNBC or any other cable outlet. They are the boys who cried wolf.

From Leslie Eastman's review at Legal Insurrection:
Surber, a recovering journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been cataloging the #FakeNews that has been regularly offered as serious analysis of President Donald Trump’s actions, policies, and opinions. He has brought his enormous collection together in the longest, most serious book he has yet written: Fake News Follies of 2017.
Fake News Follies of 2017 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at for details. I am including a "director's cut." I will give you the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the Fake News Follies of 2017.

  1. If no one believes him why are his approval numbers rising and theirs always collapsed to a singlarity? Today one of their own, the Trump Hating P Noonan, explains the reason to dumpkoff Harwood in the NY Post.

  2. Wasn't there some Civil Rights statue or icon that Trump was supposed to have removed from the Oval Office. And yet, there it was in plain sight in photos.
We're all amateurs and we don't have the time or interest to compile vast lists but I wish there was something I could stuff into the face of any CNN "reporter" I happen to meet.

    1. Don'the want to meet one. That would be disaster because it is so difficult to treat people for whom I have so much disdain with anything but disdain. Jesus said love your enemies but he did not say I had to like or even trust them. It'seems hard and I pray we can treat with love and compassion. The poor dear fools have committed cultural suicide and are trying to get other Americans to follow them down that path, too.

    2. IIRC, the President restored the bust of Churchill to its pre-Obama spot, and moved the bust of MLK to another location in the Oval Office.

  3. Harwood has become Driftwood, Deadwood and Petrifiedwood.

  4. Corruption of our Media and our Institutions is exposed by Trump and their reaction to Trump.
    Who Knew ??

  5. Verrry interesting. Obama got 75%+ positive media coverage. Trump gets 75%+ negative coverage. Approval ratings after one year - pretty much the same.

"What does it tell you, Tonto?"
"It tells me somebody stole our tent, Kemosabe."

What it tells me is that the media don't matter. They're IRRELEVANT.

(In Navajo, on the other hand, “kemosabe” translates as “soggy shrub.” If this seems an odd thing for faithful friend Tonto to call the Lone Ranger, perhaps he was just repaying the Ranger's long-standing insult. “Tonto,” after all, is a Spanish word meaning “stupid.”)
