Welcome to Trump Effect, Tom Brokaw

Tom Brokaw's one-sided feud with Donald John Trump coincides with Trump's rise as a prime-time star on Brokaw's network. Never underestimate the pettiness of media stars.

Throughout President Trump's candidacy and presidency, Brokaw took potshots at Trump.

On December 8, 2015, Brokaw became unglued.

"Donald Trump's promise to ban all Muslims from coming to America is more, much more than a shouted campaign provocation. Trump's statement, even in this season of extremes, is a dangerous proposal that overrides history, the law and the foundation of America itself. In my lifetime alone, we have been witness to the consequences of paranoia overriding reason. During WWII, law-abiding Japanese-American citizens were herded into remote internment camps, losing their jobs, businesses, and social standing, while all Japanese-American division fought heroically in Europe. At the same time in Germany, a regime that declared war on its own citizens if they were Jewish. And Germany paid the ultimate price. Defeat and history's condemnation. But after the war, America still had to learn about demagoguery the hard way. Senator Joe McCarthy's reckless anti-communist witch hunt, making ever more outrageous claims, damaging reputations," Brokaw said.

He went on to blame Trump for slavery. Seriously.

"All of that while African-Americans whose ancestors came here as slaves were treated as second or even third class citizens in uniform and out. Yes, the jihadists are radical Muslims, but they are a minority in a world with a billion and a half Muslims. Even so, defeating ISIS will be long, hard, and expensive."

Trump pretty much eradicated the Islamic State in a year's time.

But what are facts when you have feelings?

Two days before the election, Brokaw on the air gleefully forecast a big win for Hillary.

"What we’re seeing is Donald Trump, the one that we’ve known in New York for a long time. His ego overrides everything else, including judgment. He has mistaken those big crowds that he gets, as he got again last night, 25,000 people, for how you run a general election. And he thinks by showing up, he’s going to get people who are going to show up there at his rally, but it’s 25,000, it’s not the two million that he needs in every state. He is mistaken about what it takes to win," Brokaw said.

Oh those super sophisticated New Yorkers who know everything. Especially the ones who were born in South Dakota.

Trump took more states than anyone had in 20 years.

While Brokaw was giving bad takes on the president, Brokaw's past has caught up with him.

"Tom Brokaw Accused of Sexual Harassment By Former NBC Anchor," Variety reported.

It's just an accusation. For now. We shall see if there is anything to it. Maybe Matt Lauer was really the only NBC News star who abused his position like this.

But Brokaw has learned the sad truth about feuding with Donald Trump: you cannot win. He never loses.

By my count, 54 have taken The Donald on, and wound up worse for the wear.

Make that 55, as I welcome Tom Brokaw to the Trump Effect Hall of Shame. (By the way, I updated Cosby's entry to reflect his conviction.)

  1. "Historian" Brokaw should've known it was a Japanese-American regiment, not a division, that fought in WW2. And now I await the Fickle Finger of Fate to drop on Dan Rather.

  2. Don't forget to add to Trump Effect list:
Dr. Ronald Johnson, Bill Cosby, Nikki Haley (must not be sleeping with President Dennison anymore), Kayne West, Michael "Plead the 5th" Cohen, Melanie "Don't Hold My Hand", Gen. "Disappearing" Kelly, Paul Ryan and the chaplain he just fired (classy), Scott Pruett - if you can get him out of his taxpayer $43,000 phone booth, et al

  3. You forgot Mick Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, who said on the record this week:
"We had a hierarchy in my office in Congress (recalling his time as a representative from South Carolina.). If you were a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn't talk to you. If you were a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you."
Way to drain that swamp President Dennison.

  4. Brokaw has always been a ego maniac and hack journalist. NBC will try and cover up his actions and both NBC and Brokaw being liberals they will probably get away with it even today because most feminist still believe liberals would never do it.

  7. A drone strike on NYC's last true Prince of Journalism by the Emperor's mouthpiece flagship!
There has always been tension between NYC and DC. Money was considered the provenance of the one. political power the other. Media followed this same path. Now that the wealth of Croesus has flowed south perhaps we are seeing an opening gambit to move Media influence there also. Will the NYT not strike back from its crumbling tower?
In a recent alert to its slave moles, the NYT commanded them to look for Harvey in every business they cover. Commie Media wars would be great for DT.
