Normal got us into this mess

"Is Trump's presidency finally becoming normal?" Never Trump radio talker Charles Sykes wrote.

I hope not because normal got us into a mess where Mexican welfare cheats and drugs are invading us, Chinese imports have gutted the industrial base in the Midwest, and Planned Parenthood now informs us that some men have a uterus.

Sykes is upset because President Donald John Trump is doing all those conservative things that Sykes has told his listeners he wanted. We have conservative judges, the rollback of regulations, and a reduction in taxes.

The Never Trumpers hate Trump for the same reason upper crusters in Manhattan hate him: he did what he set out to do.

In the 1980s, he was some guy from the outer boroughs who saved midtown Manhattan. How dare he?

Now he is some guy from New York who saved conservatism. How dare he?

So Sykes made a personal attack to the amusement of Comcast.

"You don’t have to think that Trump is crazy or suffering from pre-dementia to recognize him as a dishonest, erratic, narcissist who is demeaning the presidency and potentially rendering conservatism toxic for a generation. We absolutely should beware the kind of mindless oppositionalism that lowers our intellectual and journalistic standards," Sykes wrote for Comcast's NBC unit.

Excuse me, but real conservatives believe in personal responsibility. Don't blame the victim of "mindless oppositionalism" afoot in the lowering of journalistic standards.

"The president’s many rationalizers would like to believe that objections to Trump are merely matters of taste or style or the president’s personality. But as this list (which is hardly comprehensive) suggests, the objections are far more serious. Even with tax cuts and Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court, the Trump presidency continues to pose a moral, political and perhaps even existential challenge to conservatives. That has been true from the beginning and there is no sign that will change anytime soon," Sykes wrote.

Got it.

Never mind all that substance, Never Trumpers say, look at all the style.

Pundits are the most superficial people in the world.

They are men of words, not actions. They enjoy the rewards of the men of action -- farmers, soldiers, builders -- as an entitlement. I know, because I was part of that world.

Normal presidents have their teleprompters, their polls, and their noodle salad.

(Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets" as Melvin Udall: "Some of us have great stories, pretty stories that take place at lakes, with boats, and friends, and noodle salad. Just no one in this car. But, a lot of people, that's their story; good times, noodle salad.")

And normal presidents get you in wars, get your kids hooked on drugs, and get you more government interference in your life.

I'll take Trump. Instead of deporting our factories to Mexico, he's deporting Mexicans.

The media chose to go to war with Donald John Trump in 2017 rather than accept him as president.

The media chose poorly.

From Leslie Eastman's review at Legal Insurrection:
Surber, a recovering journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been cataloging the #FakeNews that has been regularly offered as serious analysis of President Donald Trump’s actions, policies, and opinions. He has brought his enormous collection together in the longest, most serious book he has yet written: Fake News Follies of 2017.
Fake News Follies of 2017 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at for details. I am including a "director's cut." I will give you the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the Fake News Follies of 2017.

  1. Send each Mexican home with a bowl of noodle salad. Perhaps they'll stay put. - Elric

  2. American friends said McCain didn't have what it needed to be President. Then they said the same thing about Romney.
Did Trump change their tune? Strangely, no.
I cannot shake the suspicion that some of them wanted Hillary in the White House, so they could watch the US disintegrate while saying I told you so.

  3. Allow me to quote you, Mr. Surber: “Journalists pumped out Fake News because they were now judged by web hits, not accuracy or fairness.” I think we have an illustration of that here.

  4. In 46BC Cicero delivered a speech to Julius Caesar himself in the Forum at Rome. He was speaking in behalf of a client who had opposed the Victor and for whom his family and friends were seeking pardon. In his speech, Cicero quotes Caesar himself as to why he was victorious over the establishment of nobles." We have often heard you assert that, while We held all men our opponents save those on our side, You counted all men your adherants who were not against you".
This was also Trump's path to victory. Unlike the dirt bag he overcame and the one he replaced, for both of whom those against them were deplorable and irredeemable trash, he found allies his Noble friends as well as his enemies had thought useless, or worse not worth life itself.
Caesar was a man of mild disposition and rarely took revenge. The man Cicero spoke for obtained Caesar's pardon but was later counted among his assassins.
Trump has effectively forgiven Sessions and still has enemies in the media, the diversity rabble and their arrogant robot masters, as well as among the Never Trump and deep state"nobility" who would rather be serving Her than Him, no matter their protestations.
He needs and deserves allies who will not abandon him every time defeat seems imminent and he has found them in his deplorable base, not his defeated nobility. Caesar once sent away his horse drew his sword and marched alone towards the on rushing forces of reaction as his own men fled behind him. They turned and followed out of shame securing victory in impossible circumstances.
The eventual response to defeat of the recalcitrant nobility was suicide and eventual servitude to a monarch they did not choose and who had them executed and their families impoverished to pay off bankers for his war debts. No forgiveness, no gratitude.
So it will be with Never Trump, and someday I hope for the media and it's masters. They are better off with DT, and men like him who cut deals, rather than some slave they imagine will take their orders but, they will more likely find, be knocking on their door at midnight armed with the AR15s they gave him for safe keeping.

  5. There's an awful lot of stupidity in the chattering classes. Bad faith, too.

  6. The upper crust hates Trump for the same reason that Judge Elihu Smails was angry that they let Al Czervick into Bushwood Country Club

  7. A majority of Americans have little to no faith that the Trump
administration will stop foreign governments from interfering in the
2018 midterm elections, according to an Axios-SurveyMonkey poll.
Republicans overwhelmingly trust the administration, but independents
and Democrats don't, by large margins.

The last public committee hearings with the major intelligence heads had Democrats asking if Trump had asked them to protect against foreign interference in the 2018 elections.

Tonight, I heard a commercial hitting this point.

  8. **** normal.

    I’ll take exceptional any day.
